Question: Was Trial of Chaos changed in any way in favor of being a lot more fair than in Rao's LP?

I've been waiting so long for this...

I doubt it, I think the insanity was the whole point of it.

Also: Wild Green Yonder: I'm Tails_155, not Tails115. :SSuper Mario World Hacks 101
It was indeed fun to be a part of this, and this is one of the best, gimmicky hacks I've seen in a long time.

I can't really say much else except that everyone that took part in this project did a stunningly good job.

but tails trial of chaos is so chaotic that you can't play it!

anyways yeah this was an amazing hack
Hoo, boy...well, I can say one thing: you guys did make it feel like the VIP series. But that's not meant as a compliment. I can't say I liked the redrawn sprite graphics...I personally thought the redrawn sprites in VIP looked hideous, and while I can certainly appreciate the work done on them, I still don't much care for drastically redrawn sprites, and this hack was no exception. Another hack that it reminded me a lot of was The Second Reality Project (Reloaded)...and that's not a compliment, either. At least I got through two whole worlds of TSRPR before giving up on it. I played only the first two stages of ASMT before quitting. And unless you guys somehow screwed up and accidentally placed some of your levels intended for World 5 in World 1, I'm not picking it back up. I mean, really...munchers on the sides of platforms that you have to jump across on Koopas, a P-switch with no indication of where it should be used and a reset door that is several screens later, swimming through water with jumping fish in it...what kind of depraved person puts all these things in 1-2?! (I also noticed a discolored tile in 1-2, but that was the least of my worries.) I didn't even make it far enough to see the ASM hacks.

Now, of course, I don't think everything about this hack was bad. It certainly shows some effort put into it. Some things I noticed or at least have heard:

++ The overworld. I like the overworld very much, maybe even more than SMWCP's. If the levels were as good as the overworld, you'd be smokin'.
++ Although I didn't get to see it, I've heard the ASM in this hack is amazing. I messed around in Lunar Magic and tested out the second boss, and it was interesting enough, albeit laughably over-difficult like everything else.
+ The redrawn graphics. Sure, I would rather have seen the original ones, but just taking the time to make those is worthy of praise.
+ You left the hack unlocked. It's a petty thing, true, but I despise locked hacks, especially when they can't be unlocked with RLM. (I should organize a boycott of hack locking by getting people to refuse to play any that are locked.)

So...good hack, I'd say, but the level design could definitely use some work. It reminds me of something somebody said about Mega Man X5 and X6...although it probably gets more fun after repeated playing, it doesn't make a very good first impression.

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
I.... Huh.

The first two stages are too hard? Really?

It's crazy how I'm just unable to wrap my head around that.
Dude, World 1 is NOT hard. If you think it's "hard"... Well, you'd break your computer out of frustration on World 2's castle. It's... Hilariously random, but incredibly hard unless you're really good at playing Mario.

Also, I goddamn love "Revenge of a Much Abused Horse", that level's just plain out awesome. I even love the boss, which is saying something considering I normally don't like those kinds of bosses.

Ninjaedit: Yeah, the first two stages are like the easiest levels in the game.
Good fucking bye.
Wow, nice to see that this is released. I watched raocow's playthrough of this hack, and it seems pretty cool. However, I'm not sure if I'm going to play it, it seems a bit...too difficult for me. Still cool though.
I saw all of Raocow's play of this (it's the only full LP I've ever watched), and it was pretty fantastic. I was waiting for the release of this hack just so I could save the music to SPCs and listen to the soundtrack. :P I'm listening to King Charles's Castle as I type this.

...And, yes, you're definitely going to want to use savestates.
Hey, I noticed that this hack isn't locked. unless this is meant to be opensourced, i'd suggest maybe locking it.

5/?? levels done

Hella neat layout by Erik557
I'm already at World 6. Wow, you can blaze through this thing. #w{O.O}
Good fucking bye.
Well, the first two stages weren't too hard to play, they were just (way x7) too hard for World 1. The first one...didn't Kristian make that? He also made a level for World 6 of SMWCP, and judging my the video he showed of it, they looked about the same difficulty. And since this hack has 7 or so worlds, well...screw that.

Actually, if you watched raocow's LP of this, you'd know there's 9 worlds, not 7. I also think they were trying to make this hack harder then average, it gets pretty hard around late World 2-I still love that castle, though. #w{=3}

(Also, the level credits are in the readme)
Good fucking bye.

This.
I breezed through them and I'm horrible at Mario games.

Well I expect the difficulty to be more on the side of being an inclining scribble seeing that many of the level designers got their start in SMW hacking through ASMT and the LP pretty much showed it.

The only things that gave a bad impression on me were the VIP* copy levels, parts of World 6 and Trial of Chaos, but other than that, it's servicable for me. Regardless, I'm gonna be in the same boat as SNN and hold off on playing it until sometime down the line during a slower period. If a sequel is more planned, I'd like to join it myself, but we'll cross that bridge once/if it gets there.

If they had been in, say, Worlds 4 and 5, that would be different.

*cynical laugh* Of course. How many times do you hear somebody say, "You know what? I think I'm going to make my hack a little on the easy side."? None? Me neither. It's always "HURF DURF SMW WAS TOO EASY SO IM GONNA MAKE THIS HACK SO HARD YOULL NEED PSYCHIATRIC TREATMENT YAY ME".

But anyway...

What ASM does this hack have besides custom bosses and HDMA? Maybe some interesting LevelASM gimmicks?
