Keep the bolded sentence in the paragraph below in mind as you read the rest of the post.

I can honestly say that I do not think you are a bully. I am making an honest attempt not to point fingers. But is it wrong to voice my different opinion on something when the general consensus is the exact opposite? What did he do different from the 3,000 other people I mentioned to warrant the treatment and publicity he has gotten as of recent? Is it honestly fair to make fun of him in public if he can't learn as quick and as easily as we did?

We were all new to the Central at one time or another. Aside from our actual effort to incorporate spelling and grammar in our posts, what has made us exempt from the treatment Dixey and others have gotten? You don't need a PHD in parapsychology or human anatomy to write posts we can all understand.

~~~
Kaijyuu is right: we all make mistakes. No one is perfect and there is nothing any one person can do to prove that statement wrong. But it is also true that some people learn quicker than others, and we as a community have undeniably put a time limit on how quickly people learn the ropes around here, and I honestly despise that.
By the same token, if we see someone struggling along while everyone else is doing reasonable, do we make an honest attempt to take them under our wings and work with them and their problems (no matter how ridiculous they may be) or do we sit and laugh at them from our lofty perch atop the new users, permabans and floating munchers after they inevitably slip up? Unfortunately, most of the time it is the latter and I can honestly say I hate that.
This is probably in no way where you were headed with your post, but most of the people we make fun of are, of course, new and essentially have no one higher up on the Centralite food chain to look to for help. All they have is themselves, and them being new they usually have no idea on what to do. They take the easy way out (sometimes as S.N.N. may have implied, the only way out.) What else can they do? Their confidence has been shattered and are afraid to ask anyone else of anything for fear that they'll get the exact same thing.
In other words, it's not necessarily fair to leave someone in the dust and not give them a second chance and maybe a third. Everyone makes mistakes and a majority of the active users today have not been active their whole time they've been registered on the Central. I was gone for a good six months with occasional "Oh hey I'm back" posts.
See, there are some types of n00bs that just need to find another hobby, but some other types just need to be fed to grow up big and strong and become good moderators (Like Hadron).
Rarely does anyone ever come out of that situation alive and kicking, but Hadron is a great example. There were plenty of people who helped him to become the excellent staff member he is today. Why isn't this done more often with other new members?
This is my opinion.
You couldn't have said it better yourself. I agree with the need to be more compassionate and forgiving. Too often have we demonstrated a lack of those common moral values that separate us from the trolls and the hate-mongers. Infact the entire world would be a better place if can just get along and be kind to each other. But we're not perfect and maybe that will never happen, but that doesn't mean we should give up kindness, compassion, understanding and mercy.
Do you really need to ask if "mocking" people is bullying behavior?
If so... um... Yes. Very much so.
There are degrees, though. Poking fun at someone can range from harmless to quite hurtful. Context and audience decide that, not the person poking fun, though.
So I decided to spend an hour or two doing the best thing ever. That's right, I've reread most of the 1200+ banned user's posts (ones not deleted anyways)
...I think I died a little inside. If only I could see the DGR, then I could punish myself further by spending a day reading deleted posts. Yeah. I am spending a lot more time here if you couldn't guess. Curse my curiosity. It craves the unknown!
I know a really good psychologist, if you need him.
Anyway, I've probably been spending a hell of a lot less time on here. I don't think i've ever been inactive since I joined, though.
I suppose it's safe to say my laptop is on its last leg. Time to back up what I want to keep and format it. I actually really like the feeling of a fresh start~
Perhaps I do need one after this...
I think I may have too much time. Eh, maybe. I am just passing time until my headset charges. However, I like it because it tells a story.
I also am still working on my tutorial and "documentary". I find it quite fun indeed. This weekend is going to be more about writing though. A few people have been poking at me for it.
Edit: And before you ask, I did this all manually. This can be also used as a "group page" too until we get one.
Dude you just got that thing on your birthday. That's a pretty bad laptop if it's already on its last leg. I'd ask if your parents hate you, but since your step-dad still hasn't un-grounded you from playing your Wii because of your grades (like three months ago), I think I have my answer. Or was it your mom that bought you that laptop? I can't remember...
^ The above response shows how much I talk to Chuckles. We know eachother too well.
Anyways, I would never be able to format my hard drive. I've got too much stuff on this computer that I care about, and if I ever bought a laptop, it would all be transferred over immediately. Maybe I'm just a hoarder. For example, even though I'm 100% sure I will never need this in the future, I would never delete it. Why do I keep it? I have no idea...
Oh god, my sleep schedule is ruined! I am staying up WAAAY too late now. I better get back on track before Monday.
It doesn't happen to often but it usually does when it involves anything related to coding or my sudden urge to post. I seem to be doing so a lot more recently. Speaking of posts, I had a lol of a time reading some of my first few posts. God, I didn't spell too well back then.
Oh, and Kieran, I actually spelled 'etc' correctly back then. I know, it is crazy. Then the last year or so 'ect' comes from no where. :<
I blame watching too many people doing so. XD
Sleep? I don't need. I'm last to sleep and firs to get up. Everyone in my house is lazy to an extreme. One time I was going to take a trip to New York that would involve a lot of walking. I didn't sleep at all that day and went just fine.
*Sees new site scheme*
...
(also so what if I am a bit late? I dunt carr.)
Wow that was almost funny except the image failed.
...Anyway, I've started reading TVTropes and it's incredibly addicting. I've most just read about TV shows but I occasionally read about the tropes themselves.
TVTropes is like Hotel California: Once you enter, you can't go out.
That and Cracked. Seriously, like you think you're going in just to find out the top ten weirdest porno names and the next thing you know it's an hour later and you're pushing 600 tabs hoping to God you'll get out soon.
Today marks 2 years since I've joined SMWC. (funny how I joined on pattys day)
I guess I'm a veteran or so now.
Whoa I missed mine! I was on here for two years since yesterday.
I cannot count how many weekends were wasted at TVTropes and at Cracked. Seriously, I must have checked out several thousand pages.
On a surprisingly serious note, could my tendency of making parody threads to indirectly derive humor by mimicking be considered going too far?
I don't just do it to threads posted by newbies, but threads by anyone if I happen to find it funny enough to mock. I occasionally do similar things on IRC.
Does it make me a bully to do this? If it in the average case doesn't, would it be bullying to also occasionally do it to newbies? Should they by the mere status as newbies be exempt from this treatment?
I see what you did there.
Yeah, I'm sure you know all about TVTropes.
But seriously, I've avoided those two sites. TVTropes I just don't really understand for some reason. As for Cracked, I don't really go there a whole lot. I've read articles from there a few times, but then I closed the tab. Now, Wikipedia, on the other hand is a whole different story. When I start reading an article that isn't about a random village in Poland, I can't stop.
I don't have problems with TVTropes, also, it's just fun to read, it's like a SMW disassembly: the only difference is that you, there, disassembly a story.
