So yeah, just keep all World Cup discussions in here.

Let's go, USA! :D
Why would you even bother saying "Let's go USA!"? You are doomed to fail.

Doomed.

Anyways I'm not going to delude myself into thinking Australia will get too far. In fact I don't even remember what we're ranked at. If the Netherlands have a decent team I suppose I'll go for them with my grandpa.
I think Australia will cope well at first, but I dunno about Germany...

And yes, USA is doomed.
I made a similar thread for this in December, but it's so old that we shouldn't bother digging it back up again.

Anyway, yeah, my ideas haven't changed much from back then. Despite the good state in which the Dutch team is right now, they're not going to make it to the finals. North Korea is still an outsider for me, because it's such an unknown team - even though I'm starting to think more and more that they're just mediocre and will get knocked out in group stage.

As un-Dutch as it may sound, I think Germany stands a good chance as usual. If not Germany, then either Spain or England. The Azzuri (Italy) and les bleus (France) won't come far - I'm willing to bet that at least one of these two will get knocked out in group stage, even.
Well, don't forget the previous time we italians won the world cup, hehe!

what to say? W Italy!!
I wasn't really satisfied with the picks Brazil's coach made during the WC convocation at first (basically, he mostly convoked intermediary players, while putting aside our greatest soccer stars), but surprisingly, the team itself seems to be relatively okay, judging by the most recent games we've had, against Zimbabwe and Tanzania. But then again, both those countries were in a very low rank last time I checked, so eh.

I'm placing my bet on England/Spain this time 'round. Both teams are really strong, and I'm almost sure they will at least make it to the quarterfinals.

Go, go Hungary!!

...eh. I'm (and actually the whole country is) not surprised that we aren't on the list. I would be pretty surprised if we would be in a group.
I'm not too informated about the groups and good players, but I guess I'll root for Italy and France, just like last time, in 2006. Best thing that these two teams won the 1st and 2nd place. :)
We only know what's need to be known about North Korea. Remember, King Kim II is reall secretive...

As said before, i support Italy, Uruguay and Brazil. But i've been having some interest in Spain. As for Switzerland... i don't know too much.

I just discovered... Yesterday I suppose, that Australia is up against Germany first.

I mean Jesus fuck this.
Chile go to Southafrica!

Go GO Chile!
So, Worldcup has finally started, and it seems we started off right away with two draws, in both matches we had today; one goal scored by South Africa against one goal by Mexico, and no goals whatsoever scored in the other match, Uruguay vs. France.

I didn't watch the latter game, but I did get the chance to watch a tiny bit of the other one, and holy, South Africa definitely lost quite a few chances to score goals, from what I noticed - I counted around three or so, but I might be slightly wrong. Heh.

Despite not getting the time to do so, I wanted to watch the Uruguay vs. France match badly, but I guess I haven't lost much judging by the scoreless draw the match resulted in. Poor Uruguay, though - it has been quite a while since the last time it won a match in any kind of world tournament (what, 20 years?)... I guess it would definitely have a chance against France if it focused slightly more on the attack, as opposed to mostly focusing on the defense, since I honestly think France is no longer in its glorious days.

I kind of expected both of these matches not to result in anything spectacular, though.

Since Canada sucks at anything that isn't hockey, my cheers go out to The Netherlands.

(also I watched Mexico vs. South Africa this morning .. I'm like, amazingly shocked Mexico didn't win that.)
GO US- wait they suck... even if they are my home team
I was actually lucky to see some of the game this morning between South Africa and Mexico. That was quite the goal for South Africa. I will admit from that angle and where it was scored, it makes the goal that much better for them.

Also for all intents and purposes, let's go Holland!

I really do love watching this, i just wish it didnt look like shit on my TV :\. Very fun sport to watch
I'm actually sorry for having markets on both days of this weekend. Unable to watch South Korea 2-0 Greece and Argentina 1-0 Nigeria today, and tomorrow I can't see Australia kicking Germany's ass because I'm gone too then. {B(

(Btw, I predicted South Korea and Argentina would win. Just didn't get the scores right; 2-1 and 3-1.)

What.

I think you are gravely mistaken.
Nah, I'm actually gonna place my bets on Australia for that match. Germany never starts out well in tournaments, and well, Australia usually does. (Though their practice matches weren't that nice, Australia 1-3 US? Ouch.)

Btw, nice job for the US, putting a draw like that. Not the best keeper action ever though on English side...

The english team should have won. Just out of fairness.
Yep, I was placing my bet on the English team - they started off nicely scoring one goal around 5 minutes after the beginning of the match, but then Green pretty much blew their chance to win the game. Oh well.

USA did pretty well, though - I like the way they are always up to some clever tactics as a result of having very few good players in their team.
