OK...

Laptop thinks I've had no CD/DVD drive for 3 or 4 months...

Laptop just started thinking I have no audio drivers whatsoever...

Never been able to de-fragment it...

Slow as a snail climbing a steep hill...

Got a trojan from some [censored]er about half a year ago...

Battery life has gone from 6 hours to 15 minutes...

Got the Dazzle recorder for my games and the 'Instant DVD Recorder' programme stopped working after 3 or 4 months (got it over a year ago).

I'm a penniless teen who has a part time job at mcdonalds who can't afford a replacement...
First off, run MalwareBytes, see if it catches anything.

First, my universal advice, install Linux

It's not like he's going to get Linux if he's going to play games.

Also, just fixing your computer like snap when you've messed it up like that is hard. I'd suggest getting a computer check-up at the nearest computer shop that does that. Try getting recommendations first, so you don't go to a "scam-shop".

If you'd like to try to fix your computer yourself, then these steps might help:

• Go get a good Anti Virus (AVG). Then run it.

• Go get CCleaner. Then just check all things not browser related in the first tab. Then let it run. Now you'll unclog a bunch of space on your computer. Then do the registry cleaning, it's amazing.

• Then go get a defraggler. (Defraggler)

All these three programs might take a lot of time to do their thing, but when they're done your computer should run faster.

The only thing you can do with the battery is either "train it" or buy a new one.

[EDIT] When previous steps have been made you should try to update all your drivers. This will probably make them work.

Also try a new browser if you feel that your internerdz are slow. Chrome is really lightweight and fast. (Using now on a 2 year old Vista Home Basic Laptop.)

As for your soundcard and optical drive, sometimes they still appear in device manager and simply removing them and rebooting will do the trick.

In Control Panel you will find an option called Device Manager. In here, you will find a list of the hardware in your computer. Categories containing hardware that is currently not working properly are usually expanded automatically. Anyway, you can probably figure out where to look. When you find the hardware in question, simply right click on the device and select "Remove". Be sure not to tick the option to delete the drivers when it asks. Reboot.
Well it's a pretty big list but if it'll save me having to do extra work constantly for a new laptop then I'll do it...
