Yes. I'm not dead. Hmmm... where to start... Well some of you knew I'd be away from home for a few days. Long story short, my mom took the oppurtunity to search through my computer... Then came my great wipe. To make sure I had absolutely NOTHING illegal, she wiped my computer and flashdrive. That means no roms, emulators, no lunar magic, no touhou, no camtasia, and no music. She failed to wipe my sd card, though. The point is, I'm back on smwc but I can't hack. I'll also have to post from my DSi. Until I get a flash kart, I can't get on IRC on the DS. I can try to walk to the library and use their computers, though. That won't be easy as I'm no longer really trusted near computers anymore... Oh, and tell Lucas I'm sorry he had to do all the work with the touhou rankset.

This sounds very lame to be honest, I feel sorry for you. Almost everything that is fun on a computer is in some way illegal, why would your mom erase you interests... well, its amaybe an endless discussion. Anyway, I hope you get on track again soon, ignoring your "local laws".
btw, your post would maybe fit most in the introduction thread.

Introduction thread is for introductions, there is a reason it is not the "intro/leaving/return" thread anymore.
Anyway, that sucks dude, your mom sounds like a crazy person.

She's not crazy, but she doesn't want me or anybody in the family to be put in jail. I'm thinking of actually buying the touhou games and legally getting an smw rom. As for camtasia, well I never used it anyway. She'll give me back the computer soon, but I won't be trusted with internet for awhile. She also didn't want me on this site cause she misunderstood the term "hacking". I don't know if I can convince her to let me hack again if I could get a legal ROM.

I hate it when people are ignorant like that.

Don't call it hacking, call it Level Building or Game Building, that's how I avoided having my mother panic when she saw me using Lunar Magic for the first time.

As far as I know, there is no such thing as a "legal ROM". Game copier devices are illegal and so is the acquisition of ROMs over the internet. So you'd be out of luck, unless I'm mistaken. :\
Otherwise, my deepest condolences. It must suck to not be trusted with internet for a while, especially when your mother is that overprotective. I mean, sure it's disallowed and you can get into jail for downloading illegal material, but actually how big is the chance of getting caught for downloading a Super Mario World ROM? Not ruling out the possibility of getting caught, but the chance is like super slim.
Hope things get better for you.
But yeah, when someone would wipe all my stuff, I would kill him.

As for music, I had illegally downloaded music from various sonic soundtracks, but aside from that, I had touhou GSTs from games 6-11 and the SSBB soundtrack. Neither games have an official soundtrack and I'm not sure if music ripped from games is illegal.
My mom knows more about the internet and hacking and such than the average mother if you ask me. Her fiance is an ex-hacker, and she thinks that being on the internet at all will mean somebody tracking my IP and coming to rape me. I guess she could be called overprotective by today's standards' though.

Wow that really sucks, my favorite things to do on computers are always at least slightly illegal. Also, not that I play it, but I don't think touhou is illegal, the guy doesn't care about it IIRC. And flash carts are also illegal, so I dunno how you're gonna get ahold of one of those.

AK2i is not illegal used right. And the touhou games are like 30$. I'm sure nobody will care if I downloaded some japanese shooter. Actually, I don't think my mom knows it was illegal, so when I get my computer back I can download the games somewhere

If you're worried she'll pull stuff like this again:
*Encrypted files with TrueCrypt or other enc. software - or for Linux users, encrypted home folder. Microsoft's encryption software has easy back doors people can use and break your locks.
*Set a strong password for everything: your user account, online sites, and a BIOS one.
*Destroy cached data, history, and cookies when closing your browser. Firefox, Midori, and more can automate this task.
*Use TOR for maximum security on all sites at the cost of a sloooooooow connection. Not recommended, but it's there for the ultra paranoid.
*Backup files religiously.

Dude, for a second there, when I saw this threads name, I thought you were talking about coming back from the bathroom and talking about how great it was when you wiped, and how long it took you to finish. #w{ }
Anyways, I've had all my ROM's deleted once because my dad thought they took up a lot of space on the computer when really it was a program that was taking up space.

I even told my mom. "Hey, dude. I found a cool rom hacking site."
"Sweet."
Anyway.
HyperShadow32, you played a very important role in Super Mario World : For Dummies. Your help will be missed.
Now, getting off topic, if anyone wants to help us with that, pm me.
Getting back on topic, my parents have never been one to bar me. I've never had limitations on my internets, Or anything else for that matter. If I wanted to go sit in the living room and watch porn I could do so, but to be honest that's not my type of thing. That really sucks that your mom did that, and I hope you're able to come back 100% again.

Can you go tell your mum that- The chances of you getting caught for pirating music, games or anything on the internet by the police is so low it beats the odds of winning the lottery
- The creator of Touhou doesn't care if people pirate his Wii games. Just don't use his crap in your own fangames.
- Tracing your IP in the internet is extremely hard to do unless you give them information or idiotically download a file that allows them to do so. Even then, the most basic of AV programs should be able to prevent this from happening.
- We are not partaking in any form of illegal activity on this website. There are no illegal ROMs (game images) being hosted, no hacking of computers being performed or anything related to her reasons for not allowing you to come here.
You need to explain to your mum her reasons for wiping everything from your computer were completely unjustified.
Heck, show her this post. >_>

Whatever my mom says in my house is the law :/
I've just got high school to go, then I can do whatever illegal stuff I want. And I know getting caught with anything is unlikely, but my mom still wants me to abide by the law... I don't think she knows that the touhou games were illegal, so I can get them back (that is, if I could get on the internet to download them) Also, if I showed my mom your post, I'd get in trouble for being on here...

There is no such thing as a legal rom, as far as I know of. Anyways what your mom did wasn't really fair of her :/
You've got pretty much 2 basic options. Convince her otherwise, or just fight the system. (or whatever you want to call it xD)
I would say more but other people pretty much covered what I said <_<

Actually, you could probably put your mom before judge, as she illegally used your computer and wiped it. I know a case where a kid won against his mom in court, because she had logged into his FB account...
Tell her about that. That she was doing something illegal right there. Something that you could put her in court for.
Yet again, if she'd really wanted to block you off this site, then she would have set an address block in the router. It's really simple. Then should would of course edit the admin password.
I kinda hope she ain't browsin' the site to see if you're on it...

@above: Don't do that, seriously, I know if it were my mom, she'd get really pissy and go into some sort of a long speech, culminating in her calling herself some derogatory term, and she'd be pissed, and she would jab at me over and over until I apologized, and I'd end up even worse than when I started. Just a bad idea.
You could tell her that it's similar to drugs (find a better wording first, please) in that the authorities care more about shutting down the distribution of it than actually arresting those who partake. As long as you don't host illegal content online anywhere, you aren't going to get caught.

Weclome back! (Yes, that typo was intentional.) It sucks that you can't hack anymore. Your mom sounds like she's over-reacting. Hell, I still haven't told my mom about ROMs being illegal. I have a bunch of pirated stuff on my computer, though. And I haven't been caught. And I've been doing this for years. Tell your mom that there is no way in hell you'd be caught.

I'm telling you it won't work. My mom is the "I'm right even if I'm wrong" kind of mom. I hate how my grandparents are more like my parents yet my mom is still the one that dictates everything.
