Let's say your current life is as it is right now, and you were offered the chance, a one-time-only permanent offer, to live the rest of your life in a fantasy world, which doesn't exist in reality. Simply stimulation of the brain (or the soul), similar to The Matrix, or maybe even heaven, I guess. Would you "throw out" your current life, with your oh-so-loving friends and family that you may or may not have, to live your greatest life, your fantasy, your dream come true? You could never go back to your current life, but as it is...
I would.. I don't like current life enough as it is, and I yearn for more...

To be perfectly honest, as bad as my life is now, I wouldn't take the opportunity. Sure it may give the brain stimulation, but it'd just be like lying to yourself. Everything may seem real, but it isn't. I guess for me there's nothing better than the real thing.

If I were to live in my own 'fantasy world', nothing challenging would be left for me to accomplish. All that there could be left for me would be something like indulging in said fantasy world and being satisfied all the time, nothing else.
I'd rather persevere, trying to accomplish my goals and enjoy life while I can. I wouldn't leave my friends and family behind either, otherwise I'd be 'haunted' with feelings of regrets. Leaving everything behind for my own sake would definitely go against my pride.
Just my point of view.

If you could make the said world attached to reality without actually changing it...then yes. But if it was of course fake, then no.
I could easily play one of those games to 'lose' myself if I so needed to and always escape. Besides, life is so grand with all its real challenges and learning experiences. Plus I would want to write stories and share them so being trapped in my mind would be pretty terrible in the end.
I have reasons that could easily push it one way or the other but I'll stick with living with reality.

To those saying no because you'd miss friends / family: It is your ultimate world. Anything you wish could supposedly happen there. If you want your friends to be there, I can only assume they would be.
Also I would almost certainly go for it. Just the idea of a world where everything is perfect for me is awesome.

I would go for it. I would make it like earth, but modify it to my desires.

Going to have to go with the whole "link it to my current life but have some things altered to suit my needs". There's a few things I'd like to change in my life, but I don't want to lose the friends I have now.
Assuming we can't attach our current life to this fantasy world, no. I like my life right now. Great friends and social life, just a bit of a wacky family.

I'd have to agree with Adam, even though I am having some problems right now, I still wouldn't, because it wouldn't seem real.

By taking a fantasy life on, all you're doing is dressing mutton as lamb. I wouldn't want a fake existence. Accomplishments are worth more when you get them the hard way.

since it's a perfect world, any problems i could find about it wouldn't exist, otherwise it wouldn't be perfect. so yes, i'd do it.

I think life, with all it's hardships, is how it should be.
Sure people die, and there are terrible wars and diseases, but there are so many good things in life, so many things to work towards, strive for and have fun with.
One reason I definitely wouldn't go into a fantasy world is because then my goal to get a college scholarship for tennis wouldn't happen.
It's funny because I've actually thought about this question before this thread. Great minds think alike I guess, eh, Ulti? :>

As long as I'm not the only person there. And no fictional constructs; actual people. If the entire world's population could live in this fantasy and have a perfect society, I'd take it.

Sure there are a whole lot of things that I would change to make the world "perfect" in the fantasy but I wouldn't. The world has challenge and all the shitty things are part of it.
But then again, in my world I could make it like real life but live forever maybe, of course that could be abusing it so I don't know, probably not.
Unless I could life it for one day. But then, I would yearn for it again just knowing how awesome it could be compared to how it is now, so I don't know.

Yes, yes, YES!
There may be some downsides to this "fantasy life", but there are some things in real life I would do almost ANYTHING to get away from, and since I could have anything I wanted... :D
I'd have to be able to attach certain things from real life, though, because they are obviously certain things in life I really, really like.
and a certain something would be legal

Different conclusions though, har har.
Also, what makes it so that you 'cannot' get a college scholarship for tennis in the fantasy world?

You could, although I think he means it would mean nothing as you could do perfectly in everything, getting it with no effort.

What? NO! There's no way I would go to a fantasy world ever! I'm not a coward who tries to find a way to escape from reality instead of facing it.
There's no way I could be happy in a world where everything is just a fake idea created by my own mind and where the people there are not real: for example, let's say I'm having a conversation with a one of my friends, in real life, my friend could tell me about his/her life experiences, but in that fake world he/she could not tell me about any of there stuff because he/she in not a living being so he/she has no life experiences or opinions, so anything that fake person could tell me would only be fake stuff, and when I get my turn to talk, no one would be there to hear what I say.
People who lie to themselves in order to avoid seing reality the way it is cannot be happy at all.

Hm... this is a hard decision. Check out the movie Inception for more ideas for discussion. But my opinion would differ with two important pieces of data.
1. Would you be able to remember that the reality you are in is a fake reality? (oxymoron ftw)
2. Can you create a fake reality with many links (perhaps almost identical) and just change a few things?
