During this month of August, Mars' orbit will be close enough for us to see it in the night sky. Don't expect a large red ball in the sky, it just looks like a very bright star. The stars haven't been visible lately around where I live so it's easy to so. It seems to be down and to the right of the moon from my perspective. By the 28th it'll be closest to us. Feel free to look it up and give more info since I'm on my DSi and can't research it or link to an article...

I remember hearing talk of this before but I still have no idea whether I'll be able to see it, what with me being in the Southern Hemisphere, and our standard of missing fucking everything.
If someone could confirm for me whether or not I should bother looking it would be appreciated. The only other time I've gotten to see some fancy looking astrological body was when the Moon was blood-red about two years ago.

That story is very interesting. Now it persuaded me to want to check the night sky every day.

I'm in the Northern Hemisphere, and i see Venus all the time.
I guess i'll have a nice time seeing Mars. If you think it... all the rovers, the missions, Phoenix, Spirit, Opportunity, MRO, etc... all it's small compared to the huge universe. The same would apply to the Earth... the history... the wars... the families... the love and hate... racism... equality... good... evil... all, in a small planet.
Things like this make me realize we're small.

Is Mars really coming so close to us that we could even see it? Wow! I never knew it's coming that close to our planet. I'd be sleeping like an angel while that little bright star shines as bright as the moon in the night.

I think I've seen mars a few times before. Unless it was Venus. They're so similar from a distance of millions of miles.

Well, try seeing it through a telescope because it is amazing when you see it. Mars is definitely a spectacular world. The Mars Rovers are still operating (well we're not sure about Spirit anymore because it went silent in March), has polar ice caps, the largest volcano and canyon in the Solar System. Can't wait to hear about further exploration.

Uh, it was August 13th or something when you could see Saturn, Mars, and Venus all in a triangle in the sky (sorta like an isosceles large triangle)
It was also the night of the Perseid meteor shower.

Speaking of Meteor Showers, they are impressive. I never saw the Perseids but I did see both the Leonids and Geminids.

I've never seen any kind of astronomical thing except for this. I usually forget about showers and such... and the moon already turned blood-red? What was the scientific explanation for that?

Hmm, I've missed a LOT of these things.
Planetes, comets, hell even an eclipse once.
I'm so gonna "try" to remember to look outside then.
Is there also some kind of time you need to look?

As far as I know, anytime at night with a clear sky. Strangely, I never saw any stars when I saw Mars...

But, what I ment, is it only viewable from certain parts of the world?
