WOW. I'm in love with the BG there. It looks REALLY good. Also, great idea for the different colored shyguys!
Nice title screen, picking the colours is a nice touch.
Question though, what health patch are you using? Im curious as Im looking for one that keeps Mario small but gives him health...
That's a great idea for sure! The title screen looks good too, I like the background. The text is a bit too...well, bland for now, but it's actually not a big deal. :)
It's looking good overall.
Heh, the text is temporary, and I hope to make it look like it does on the userbar. As for the health patch, Cloud, I'm using several things. I used KilloZapit's health patch, the patch that makes Mario's hitbox always 16x16, and a patch that I submitted to the patches section that makes Super Mario use the same GFX as Small Mario. I'm not actually keeping the player small, but rather making the big form look like the small one. I also disabled breaking turn blocks with a spin jump, the hex edit for which is in the ROM Map. So yeah, that's how I did it. :P

Interesting. Im glad I know hex and patches. ^_^
But yeah I noticed in the title screen theres a pacman house. XD
That's because the BG is from some Pac-Man game, but I thought it was sexy-looking, so I used it. :P

Title screen is still a work-in-progress because the recording ASM wouldn't work correctly. :S

Graphics editing. GFX32 has Mario's graphics IIRC.
Yes, just replacing stuff in GFX32 along with some hex edits to change some stuff that would normally screw up.
Okay, been a little busy with the Winter contest and school and all, but I've been able to do a bit of work on the first castle.

Still not revealing the gimmick yet, but here are some screenshots:

What could these blocks be? (They're involved in the gimmick)

How can we get past this Thwomp?

Maybe with this handy silver P-Switch!

Sorry for the lack of content lately, guys, but as I said, I've been busy with school, particularly an extracurricular chorus activity.
Oh my God. I think I've found a new hack to follow.

I don't stop by the Hack Discussion forum so frequently anymore, due to me having little interest in SMW hacking these days + most hack threads here not catching my attention (hopefully this won't offend anyone...). This thread, however, is an exception to such rule - I've actually been following it ever since it was started, and I am getting more and more excited to try this hack out in each update.

This hack looks like lots of fun. Graphics-wise, it looks pretty basic, but not really in a bad way - it actually reminds me of those 2007/2008-ish hacks whose graphics weren't anything magnific, but the actual game was very entertaining.

What I (and many others, I suppose) enjoyed the most, though, is all the ASM-related stuff you've been whipping up. The new powerups are quite creative, and they all fit perfectly in this hack. Do you plan, by any chance, to make some kind of powerup that turns the player into a Beezo? Asking this totally out of curiosity, and because I think that would be a nice powerup addition... That is, if you manage to make it work in a different manner to the Pidgit powerup...

About your newest screens, they look pretty interesting... that level seems to involve lots of exploration, which is always great. I like the silver P-Switch Thwomp idea, although I actually had a similar idea a while back and ended up executing it in a old hack of mine. :P I'm not saying you shouldn't keep yours, though - I said that just for the sake of it, really - ignore me. ;)

Only nitpick I have about that level is that the foreground looks slightly odd in contrast with that background - at least in my opinion. Something you could do to make them blend together better is outline the FG graphics - I guess this way it would actually look more solid.

Other than that minor nitpick, thumbs up. I really hope to see more from you, K3fka. Best of luck with this hack, man.
Thanks for al the positive feedback, guys!
And Broozer, that means a lot to me since you're one of the users I've always had a lot of respect for. I'm glad it gives off a 2007-2008ish feel, because that's what I was going for. I'm glad you like the ASM stuff, since while I'm definitely not the best at ASM, I like to think of it as my forte. As for a Beezo power-up, maybe. I'll have to make sure it can be used well and won't break the game first.

Again, thanks guys! And I think in the next update. I'll reveal the castle gimmick, so be sure to check back!
Do you know when the demo will come out??
Hey! We're back from page 2! And now I think I'm ready to show off the gimmick of the first castle.

Hm...Why won't this Thwomp fall?

A strange barrier prevents us from going this way...

Another Thwomp that won't fall. I wonder what that switch does...

:O

Now that the power is on, the Thwomp here is back to normal!

Since there's nowhere else to go, let's backtrack. Oh look, the blocked path from before is now open!

And it looks like this Thwomp at the beginning was the key to getting through.

I do not have a set date or time period for a demo yet. Hopefully within the next month or two, but I'm not sure how busy I'll be with school.
Love hw this is turning out ...especially sence you using my GFX and also the power ups now! It looks great in action so im glad u decided to use em... I'll come around again hopefully to something TOTALLY AWESOME
I'm glad you are satisfied with my usage of your graphics. I'm also glad I decided to go with the powerups you provided, since they're very creative and make the game more fun.
Well, it's been a little while since the last update, but this is a pretty big one.

I've been working on the world 1 boss, and I've got a video to show my progress so far. It's almost done; just waiting on some GFX frames from Ladida. I also need to add some attacks and fix the glitchy graphics that appear when you get hurt or die.

So yeah, what do you guys think? I know it's kind of simplistic, but it's my first boss. At least it's not a generic n00b boss. :P

I'm also probably going to adjust the movement speeds so it won't be so crazy.
This looks great! I've always liked hacks where people take the time to edit Mario's sprites instead of leaving them alone. Keep up the good work!

P.S. You were very original with the snifit thing. I like that.
Nice boss! Like SM64, you should make it come again but make electricity on itself. :)
