Yep, so now that Golden Egg has been released, I've come to the decision to release an "expansion pack" of SMW2+2, entitled SMW2+2 Extra.

So far, I've got one screen of the first level, 6-1: Traffic In The Skies. More to come soon.

As you can see, since this is an expansion of SMW2+2, it's starting at World 6. My plan is to make a one-world hack of very challenging levels. Some people have mentioned SMW2+2 was too easy, so since this hack will be considered a "bonus world" of SMW2+2, I want to make sure I provide a good challenge.

Another thing...this hack will contain something I've never done before in a YI hack. You should know what I mean. ;)

So yeah, I also plan to edit some other things, such as level icons, changing the world tab to read 6 instead of 1, and figuring out some way to edit the level numbers under the icons.

I know there's not much to show right now, but there will be more soon. I just wanted to let everyone know my current plans, and see if anyone had any ideas or suggestions.

And to be honest, I don't really remember that much from SMW2+, it's now over five years old. Keep in mind, that was my first YI hack, when EggVine had just been released, so I was more excited to finally be able to edit the game.

Oh also, if you have any more comments or suggestions about my YI hacks, feel free to post them in the SMW2+2 Extra thread. I don't want to clutter up this FAQ too much. ;P

OK then. (By the way, you sound almost exactly like SNN did when I asked him about Kamek's Revenge.)

Anyway... so this SMW2+2 expansion is planned to be a separate patch containing only 1 world? A difficulty jump wouldn't matter as much in that case. I look forward to seeing how they turn out.

"Traffic in the Skies" sounds suspiciously similar to "Exercise in the Skies", though...

(I actually noticed quite a lot of resemblances between SMW2+2 and Yoshi's Island DS, actually. (In nearly all cases, the SMW2+2 version was better-- I found YIDS to be absolutely terrible...))

Anyway, will this bonus world contain bosses?

Yes, I like the idea of an expansion pack rather than a remake. Besides, I used up pretty much all the space in SMW2+2.

Yes, it is a bit similar. I haven't physically changed the level name yet, so if there are any suggestions, I'm willing to hear them. =)

I was pretty enamored with YIDS on my first playthrough, but looking back it at, yeah, it was pretty big step down from the original game.

It will. Haven't decided which bosses to use yet, but I plan on making the fights a bit more creative and challenging this time around.

Also, I've seen you mention a few times that SMW2+2 was too easy. If you have any more specific feedback about my past hacks you think would be beneficial toward this current project, I'd be glad to hear it.

Well, one thing I've noticed in all of your hacks I've played (meaning SMW2+, SMW2+2, and SMW2+3-- I haven't played your newer SMW hacks) is that the levels seem too squarish and spread-out... maybe add more slopes, or other variations in the terrain height?

Definitely...now that I can actually see the slopes I'm editing in Golden Egg, that should be much easier. ;P
Looks nice so far! I loved SMW2+2, so I'm sure this will be just as good! #w{=D}
Well, my current plan is to make one level of each theme in this world, similar to NSMB Wii's World 9.

So...I've got a sky level so far. I definitely want a lava cave of sorts, perhaps a cross-section maze similar to 6-6 of the original game, and...a level which is long overdue from me...can you guess what type of level that is? =)
Interesting ideas there! I'm looking forward to playing this?

Also, is that level going to be...a sewer level? IIRC, there weren't any in either SMW2+ or SMW2+2 (sorry if that was a spoiler, if it was just tell me and I'll delete this post)

That's correct! And I asked people to guess, so it's no problem. =)

Hopefully, I can make an interesting maze area out of a sewer. We'll see.
I have made a small ASM tweak for you, Jacob. It will make World 1 look like World 6. If I should change the level menu's color, I'd have to change one color of the level icon palettes... As you can see, I've changed a few graphics to create the headline (the SMW2+2 Extra). I've left the 6 in the top bar, because that should be the 6th World of your hack.
Sooo, here is a list of what I've done:

- Made 16 Yoshi-colors available and copied the four custom Yoshis of the former SMW2+2
- Applied them to the Extra- and Secret level
- Changed the text pointers of Secret 6, so it's not glitchy.
- Changed the Entrance Pointer of Secret 6, so it leads to 2-1's entrance.
- Changed the Midring Pointers of Extra- and Secret 6.
- Made World 1 look like World 6.
- Made the Bone-Tileset available for World 1, you must use Palette 16 for the Palette still, though!
- Corrected the position of Yoshi after succeeding/aborting in Extra/Secretlevel
- Made, that you don't necessarily lose Extra 6's goal ring roulette.
- Expanded the tab-bar and added the SMW2+2 Extra to the graphics; made that all of the bar is visible, even if you are in World 1.
- Made, that you need to have completed all of World 1's levels to get the star on the Title Screen.
- Made, that you start in the Dark World.
- Disabled the Intro Cinema scene.
- Added a plus to the font for index [9F]
- Made, that the World 6 icon is shown instead of World 1's icon.
- Made, that winning 6-8 won't unlock the actual 2nd World.

- Missing: In case you want to have another Bowser Battle in the hack, you must tell Mattrizzle to make, that the game saves after defeating Bowser.

Please tell me, whether you find it okay like this or whether you want me to change something. Here is the IPS:
Link removed!
Warning! In case you already edited and re-inserted some graphics to your hack, make sure to patch this patch to the original game and then extract the graphics and paste them into your custom graphic's AllGFX.bin!

Wow, all of that is totally fucking awesome. Thank you so much! Very nice of you. #w{=3}
You're welcome! #w{=D}
I must tell you, that I did not change the palette colors of Yoshi's boots, thus they are all looking the same like in the original game. Hope you don't mind to do that yourself. You can easily copy the graphic data of SMW2+2. But be careful not to overwrite any graphics that were changed by me.
Also, I assume you will use Golden Yoshi for 6-8. You've used him once in SMW2+2's 5-8. In case you don't know, how to let him appear on the Map Screen anymore, I can tell you if you want.

Heh, that's alright. I think Golden Yoshi needs a rest after just starring in his own hack. ;P

And I don't think I'm going to be making anymore graphic changes until the end.
Another note:
Please change the byte at 0xBF698 [0D] to [00] or else you will have a bad surprise after succeeding in Secret 6.

Random finds:
-If the file is a new file, the game will have the Light World version of Yoshi's Island as Title Screen.
-I've accidently changed the palette using gimmick instead of the tile gimmick for World 6...
-The game doesn't save after 1-8... Seems as if you need to make the level lead to a new world to make the game save.

@Jacob: Seems like you must use Bowser as your 6-8 boss. There is no other way to make the game trigger the last cinema sequence. Maybe a good ASMer could make, that winning 1-8 activates the last cinema sequence...

Well, I don't plan on using the last cinema sequence or Bowser, so will that still be a problem?

The game saves after completing the Extra levels, though... how is that different?
Well, the thing that the cinema sequence isn't triggered isn't the main problem. The problem, which exists now is that the game won't save, when 1-8 is finished. It will unlock the Extra- and Secret levels, if you have a perfect score, but 1-8 isn't saved. The best thing, of course would be, if the game would do what it does before it unlocks another World. It should flip all the level icons and then check whether you've got a perfect score or not. If not, it goes on with the Castle-Explosion scene. If yes, it unlocks the Extra- and Secret level and then goes on with the Castle-Explosion scene. After World 6's castle exploded, however, no stork should fly away, but the game should easily return back to the level map. What it does after 1-8 is finished, however, is that it does nothing. If you got 100 pts in each level you will find the Extra- and Secret level unlocked already. Making a custom code, so it acts as it's supposed to be is beyond my capability... So for this thing you must ask someone, who knows his business (Romi, Mattrizzle, tehaxor69,...)

@Zeldara:
It probably is programmed so, that it only saves, when a castle explode-scene plays...
Maybe you could somehow set a "1-8 cleared" flag before 1-8 is actually completed...

That way, when the player does actually complete 1-8 (6-8, but it's technically 1-8), the tile would simply flip over and change the score. (This already happens with the Extra stages, after all.)

I wonder what the 1-8 cleared RAM offset is?

The likely-simplest custom-ASM options I can think of are: A custom sprite of some kind that sets 1-8 to cleared in some random level you happen to pass through (this would also likely cause the level icon to change color early though), or somehow editing the code of the boss (or of the key sprite S14; that sprite is probably fairly simple) to set 1-8 cleared.

(That's assuming you can't get it to work by experimenting with different values of the 4th byte of the level entrance, though.)

I've already experimented with a lot of them:
00 Does nothing
06 Does nothing
07 Does nothing
0A (WOULD unlock the score) Does nothing
0C Activates World 1's castle explosion, saves, but triggers next world...
42 Unlocks 6-7
48+higher SUPERGLITCH!

Hey YF,

I tested out your patch, and found some issues:

After you select the control configuration tab, switch to Hasty, and go back to the map, that happens. Black squares appear in map tab, and the 6-1 and 6-6 level labels switch places.

In other news:

Another section of 6-1. Should be challenging enough.
