Mario Gives Up!

A title like 'Mario Gives Up' would make you expect to see Luigi or something right? Nope. It's all explained in the intro of the game. This was intended as a joke hack at first but apparently it was turning out really good. So I decided to make an overworld and submaps, more levels and it looked like a real game! In this game the secret exits actually take you someplace useful, instead of backwards MKM2.

I find this game better than any other game I made. I tried correcting all the glitches and bugs I could find. Hopefully it's flawless but in all honesty, it may have 1 or 2 errors (hopefully nothing major). Everything worked out fine for me though. Slowdown isn't really an issue here, I tried limiting that to a minimum so there isn't very much plus I inserted the fast-rom patch.

This game was released EXACTLY one year after MKM2 was to the day. How cool is that? Well here are some screens of the game:

I've played only a couple of worlds in, but it's looking much better then MKM2, and that's saying something coming from me. MKM2 is one of my favorite hacks. Everybody, go play this. NOW.

It's a good hack, but I remember that when I played the C3, the level with the elevators crashed when I tried to enter the boss room and I had to reset the game... is this now fixed (presuming you removed the old one from the hacks section).

I also remembered one section had the events not quite working and the paths not lighting up when the previous level was cleared (it was at this beach like world, quite late in the game, after the sky world). Is that also fixed?

But yeah, great hack. I really liked the castle levels and such, and the fairly inventive boss ideas (I know, N00b boss, but hey, no Thwomp boss or Pix from Mushroom Kingdom Meltdown, and these actually moved around!)

Yeah everything is fixed now. Version 1.12 however it just says the title on the hacks section.

A really good hack!! congratulations. I played it and i pass bowser castle. The plot is really funny (10/10). Poor Peach in all your hacks her's life has a bad ending (she is killed, possesed, kidnapped, etc).

The unique thing that i don't like too much are some bosses, like the oil barrel and bowser's bowling ball. On another hand i like how you use the sprites dissassemblies. You made some good custom sprites.
Oooh, a new hack from you. I have to try this out sometime.
So... what's the plot? What's with the title? Or am I going to have to play the hack to find out?

edit: opened it with lm. how the fuck do you get there? I cheated to get it. Also the sandstorm level is annoying.

I couldn't find out how to properly beat the sky world ghost house, then the overworld fucks up after Diamond Mines and shows you the first submap, BUT NO MARIO. WTF???

I'm playing through it, however I think it suffers from the same things MKM2 did.

Minor cut-off here and there.
Insane levels. (either that, or I just suck at SMW)
Bad custom GFX (I'm personally not too fond of the custom GFX you drew yourself)

But, other then those, it is truly an awesome hack.
Your layout has been removed.
Well, admittedly, there are some hard parts, but nowhere near as "insane" as quickly as in MKM2. (Not counting Beachy Sand Storm)

Edit: Well, the final level was... Underwhelming. It was fun and all, but it wasn't epic, and the boss was just fireballs, fireballs, and oh hey random bullet bills that only provide variety graphics/sound-wise.
