-MUST know how to make a GOOD overworld
-Is willing to work with me on this
Recommended:
-Can help me with errors I'm dealing with
-Knows how to fix stat bars
If you want to join, then post here! I will pm you what you need to do.
I will listen to your suggestions, probably put them in, and if you don't like the set-up, then I'll be happy to hear what you think should be made.

There's a lot that I like about this level, especially the BG & palette and the bomb-omb enemies. Its also a decent length.
With that said, there are some things about that that I would change. Its way too linear. That would be ok if you have a secondary path (maybe to a bonus area) in the second half of this level. Also, giving Mario a 1-UP immediately after the midway point is a bit too easy. Put it hidden away somewhere. The weird spiny goomba thing doesn't make too much sense. I would recommend changing the graphics to something else but definetely indicate that you cannot hop on it with a message box.
Two more, smaller things.

#1 You see how the hill runs into the wall. A lot of people here aren't too crazy about it. I personally don't mind it but something to consider.
#2. I don't feel that Moonsong is that appropriate for this level. I love both the original and this port but I feel like something happier would be a better fit for this level.
Keep it up. This looks like it could be very promising with some solid effort put in it.

Yeah, its a pretty cool first level. To add on what keckcellent said, though, is that you should also apply that one other Piranha Plant patch to get rid of the red stems, as the red stems can (though very rarely) cause a VRAM glitch or something along the lines like that. I'm not too sure what the glitch does, but its something to consider if you're using Piranha Plants.

Thanks for the comments guys!
@keckcellent I'll get rid of that goomba, because it really doesn't fit the level anyways. It messed with SP2 so that I couldn't put in help blocks without them looking like pirahna-plant heads anyways. Might make one explaining the bob-ombs, though. And yes I'll move the 1-up to someplace better.
1. I might change up that part a bit, though I thought it looked fine to me.
2. The music changed to a Kirby tune, which I think is much more fitting.
Also, what do you mean by "too linear"? That there isn't any extra paths? Because if that's the case then I'll change up the first level. I was thinking of adding more anyways.
@TheDestroyer I added the pirahna patch. Do the stems stay red or do they need to change to green?
Edit: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BnbGPdO421c?fs=1&hl=en_US&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BnbGPdO421c?fs=1&hl=en_US&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Shows the new music and what I've decided to do for the help box in this area. Comments?
Edit2: I wish edits could bump.
While I'm sorting out some sprite problems for one part I'm doing, I think I'll show you some new changes I've made.

I replaced the goombas with this Wisdom Plant. The head is actually the infobox with changed GFX because of the changed SP2, needed for the piranha plant vines to look right.

I removed the slope so it's now a pit. And another look at the bob-bombs.

Now to change things up. The first set of screenshots showed one way to go through this level, and now I'll show you another.

And now we're up here! (let me know if the "grey" stone blocks look too ugly)

Another part of the level, which leads to a pipe...

...which leads to here. This area is under construction, so it won't look as bland as it is now. The same graphics and music (which you can't here right now) will be used in the second half of the stage.

A couple screens after that lead into another pipe, which leads to the midway area. Note I removed the turn blocks and mushrooms.

A look at the second text box. (The "Orange Ocean" bit is because the palette of the water in the second half is orange, and I won't fix it because I'm too lazy it's easier to improvise)

An arrow?

A couple hazards and some jumping, but you're rewarded with...

The second Yoshi coin! (I moved it from its old area because I needed to set it up so that no matter what path you take you can still get each Yoshi coin)

Next up, will be a video of the second path to the midway (once I finish the cave) and some looks at part 2!
Also, if you hadn't noticed...

Dekurashuns!!!!

When I said more linear, I did mean multiple paths (which I see you added). Too many paths can make things a bit convoluted but I personally like to add at least one side path. The Wisdom Plant is great and the new Kirby music fits perfectly. There are just a couple other things I want to point out with your new pics.
The grey stone blocks do look a bit ugly but they also create cutoff with the pipe. With a little Map16 work, you should replace it with floating land.

I quickly put this together in a level of one of my side projects to show you what I mean. The rope in the picture immediately after the grey stone block one also has cutoff. You can easily replace that with more clouds if you want.
One of the pictures looks like it has bullet bill sprites placed there. I'm personally neutral about it but a number of the moderators don't like it because its a sudden bullet bill without its BOOM sound.
The only thing that is really bad about the pictures is in your decorations one at the bottom. The jumping pirahna plant has a weird low priority so it will always be behind that giant bush. It is possible for Mario to get hurt by it when he is in front and the 'invisible' pirahna plant is behind the bush. Either move the bush or move the pirahna plant. But good work again.

OK, I do think what you're showing looks better, so I'll do it that way.
I replaced the rope as well, and changed some of the enemies around so they don't fall off the clouds.
I'm not sure what to do with the Bullet Bills, maybe replace it with a Banzai Bill?
And I noticed that error with the piranha plant so I moved it to an unused pipe I was using before.
I had a lot of time to go over the errors while waiting for someone else to post.
Anyways, I have another video to give out. It's a bit outdated, so there will be some things that are changed, and some things you pointed out won't be fixed.
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/mb0NV78WnGc?fs=1&hl=en_US&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e9e00"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mb0NV78WnGc?fs=1&hl=en_US&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e9e00" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Edit:

Some of the errors fixed.
Edit2: It appears the ceiling slopes didn't work unless the FG was set to a cave setting, which also meant the water tiles didn't work. Orange Ocean will be replaced with lava, and some other aspects will be changed to fix this (most notably the second Wisdom Plant's text)

That looks really awesome. You chose REALLY GOOD palletes.
It has such a warm feeling to them.

Thanks, I really like the palettes as well. (otherwise I wouldn't have used them )
Anyways, some more screenshots on what I've been working on.

As I said, the cave is now filled with lava. Personally, I like this change, as not only does it add more difficulty to the level, but it also works out much better than "orange ocean".
Here's two screenies on the second part (no enemies or decorations have been added, so it looks bland right now)

The pipe in the second part leads to another alternate path, and a bonus exit. (which will lead to the first switch)
Edit: Here's an intro screen for you guys.

This thread is reeking with activity.
Here's a video of some of the paths of my first level. Note that some things are old and have been changed. Also, the overworld hasn't been edited yet.

Good so far but you should change the palette of the banzi bill, floating skulles and the status bar in the cave.
Also the pirana plant mesage box is a creative idea, but you should change the palette of it to palette C (Red palette) using
Tweaker.

Thanks! And I have changed the palettes of the floating skulls and Wisdom Plant, but unfortunately I haven't been able to fix up the Banzai Bill. Oh well, I think these are much better coloring anyways.
Old Plant

New Plant

Old Raft

New Raft

Also, I still need to work on the stat bar. I've been working on an ocean section of this level, but I still need to fix out an error with the seaweed.

While part of me feels like this hack isn't getting the recognition it deserves, I don't think you've created enough of a hook yet. I think some of the little bits you've created for the level are pretty creative and the fact that you are so receptive of criticism and put so much work in your first level is great. But that's all you have right now.
Do you have a master plan for this hack yet? How many levels will this hack have? How many worlds will it have? What (if any) are the world's themes? Does this hack have a story?
In my opinion, I would give this thread a rest for a little bit, come up with 2-3 more levels, and then post the results here and it'll probably get a bit more buzz. I like the stuff you have right now and would love to see more.
If you need any help, you can use the general hacking advice thread. I'd also be able to help sort out some errors and issues with the hack so PM me if you need it (I'm no beta tester though).
Also, you can get the animated water in a cave tileset by using ExAnimation. I like the lava better though.

Yes, I suppose you're right. And thanks for offering to help me with problems.
I have been working on a story, and I have set up a level set. (is 96 the maximum amount of exits? If so, then I need to work on the level set-up) But I do realise what you mean: most wips do have a couple levels, and I haven't even started work on the title screen, let alone complete the first level. >_< (then again, I do plan to make it a very long first level)
I still want this thread open for input, but my activity will probably die down a bit.
