Im curious to see what peoples favourite sprite set is in SMW. My personal favourite is Pokey sprite set. I like the variety it has such as moles and of course the supa koopas.
I use the Forest set alot in my hacks.... B)

Definitely the castle graphics set, because I really like the various castle enemies like Thwomps, Thwimps, Magikoopas, Dry Bones and Grinders. Even better when it's the firebar/Roto Disc graphics from Spritetool, because those are also some of my favourite enemies.

I'd also go with the Pokey sprite set. I always loved the challenging variety of enemies it offered: Pitchin' Chucks, Volcano Loti, Pokeys, Sumo Bros, Moles, and Super Koopas. That was the sprite set I used in my first level of my first SMW hack, SMW+, back in 2001.

Mine would be the Forest sprite set. It's because it has Bob-ombs,Lakitus and Spinies that have existed since SMB3. Not to mention it has some free gfx spaces. Yea..

Hmm... I like a mix of ghost house and castle sprite sets, as it fits a more... dark and creepy atmosphere.

My favorite sets would happen to be the castle or forests.
SP3 = 12
SP4 = 03
I love the thwomps, and especially dry bones.
(Oh wow, I actually ninja'd my brother!)

What a coincidence, same for me. I'm not sure if the tileset is my favorite, though.

I'd go with the castle tileset or the forest one. The other ones like atheletic and rex tilesets are cool, but just don't have much enemies in them. The forest and the castle have alot of em.

The Pokey sprite set would certainly be near the top. I also like the Mushroom sprite set because I like platform sprites and line-guided sprites. (I like the rotating platforms so much, I've remapped the chain tile to SP3 for my hack.) Of course, if we're allowed to swap out any sprite GFX files for custom sprite ones, then all bets are off. The problem with Chucks is that their graphics consume a buttload of SP3, are none too organized, and are a nightmare to remap, which is why I'm planning to make a sort of replacement sprite for them that's friendlier with sprite GFX space. The Mechakoopa and Dino-Rhino sprite sets are rather interesting, but they don't contain very many different sprites, so I rarely use them.

Wow, a lot of people seem to like the Pokey one. I like that one, too, and the Ninji sprite set as well because of the amount of ways to creatively put them in levels, and with the Ninji sprite set, I can have Bowser statues, Chucks, and P-balloons coexisting without glitching! A close second would be the mushroom because line guided levels are fun to make, and I can safely use the goal sphere without the need to copy and paste tiles or combine sprite sets.

Castle. But I mix and match my own sets. I find disassemblies and assign them to their own tiles to have say.. Pokies and ghosts and Thwomps with Dino Rhinos in the same level#.

I would say the ghost house spriteset, because I love ghots-themed levels.
I aslo like the castle spriteset because it has a big variety of sprites and the ninji spriteset because putching chucks and pitching chucks (or wathever their names are spelled, I'm too lazy to check) can be placed together wich increases the level dificulty.

I prefer the castle tileset. It has a fun variation of enemies, and is well-drawn and polished.
Now you got me into designing a castle level. Expect screenshots soon!

The castle set provides by far the most interesting enemies to work with, in addition to a good number of other hazards. (Lava and various spikes mainly).
The ghost house set also got many interesting enemies to work with.

I'd be game for that, if it's actually possible through ExGFX. Although, would you take your chances and replace the tiles of the Dino Rhino breathing fire, seeing that never actually got programmed into the original SMW?

Castle tileset, Pokey tileset and Underground tileset here. All of them have some cool (varieties of) enemies in there, but if I'd have to choose, I'd say castle tileset.
Mixing tilesets for the win, though! :>
Edit: 777, but I say no to booze now especially because I'll play icehockey later (and have to drive).

I probably like the forest sprite set the best. I really like Spinies, Bob-ombs, and Wigglers.

Castle sprite set all the way. The Thwomp and the Ball n' Chain are two of the easiest sprites to create interesting variations of.
