A Haunted Christmas
made by Team Haunted

DOWNLOAD

Everybody who want to play this with snes9x: download this SRAM file, and put it into your "Saves" folder.

Introduction:
Maybe some of you already heard of this hack, it was originally released a year ago, but it got removed more times and it was pretty unknown. So here's a little story, behind the scenes...
Last year, the members of the Team Haunted forums (probably the biggest SMW hacking team forum made by SMW Central members), leaded by me, decided to make a team hack for Christmas. The progress was pretty good for first, but then it slowed down. I couldn't keep the whole thing together, I gave up, and I handed out the job to Darky and Rayman Man. They finished the project, and they wanted to submit it to the site, but for various reasons, it got removed. Then it was forgotten.
A couple of weeks ago, I got the idea, why not start again the project, and make it actually a decent hack? It was a way too promising hack to let it die, so I started working. I made a lot of changes to make it better, I fixed all the errors mentioned, and I added many-many little "nice touches". Overall, I think I got a good result, and it's a pretty decent hack now.

The levels were made by:

Mario's House - Hadron
Snowfall - Hadron
Snowy Heights - Darky
No more snow? - anonimato
Cold Lake - Hadron
Icy Caverns - Darky
Go Go Go Mario! - imamelia
The Freezing Manor - Hadron

Thanks to everybody who participated in this.

Story:
It's almost Christmas, but the Big Boo suddenly stole all of Mario's presents! Now he has to go through the cold and icy terrain to get them back for Princess Peach...

This looks like cutoff. other than that, looks good.
Green Raven, I see no cutoff. If you point out minor cutoff, edit in something into the picture to make it more obvious.

Holy crap was not expecting this. I remember playing this when it was released, but... It was rather disappointing. I'm definitely gonna play this again, it looks awesome now!

Edit: ... Okay, I can't play this for some reason. It worked up to the intro once, but now it just freezes on the Presents screen -.-

this was an awesome hack Team Haunted, awesome music, graphics and a great level design , keep up the good work :D

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone <(^ω^)>
What a nice early Christmas present this is. Level design is great and the graphics and palettes looked really nice. I enjoyed playing.
Great use of the VWF Message Boxes.

Thanks a bunch for the nice comments, guys! :)

GoldenSonic: yeah, I also encountered that, but honestly I have no idea what could be the problem.
The thing is, that I had the final ROM (running in every emulators well), so I made the ips patch for it. But after I tested the patch, and patched it on a clean, new ROM, the new ROM always crashed after the presents screen. It works well in ZSNES and Bsnes, only snes9x has the problem. Now I managed to have it non-crashed in snes9x sometimes, but it's variable. I absolutely don't have any ideas what could cause the problem. I'll start a thread for this in Advanced hacking, probably.
So, play it on ZSNES (I don't recommend BSNES since the music will break) or PM me for the working ROM file (is PMing ROM links illegal? If yes, PM me on YouTube.)

Well, Team Haunted didn't die after all. It's alive and kicking. I'll try this hack.
I played your hack...
The stages and the Overworld are good!!
Hadron, you did a great job of fixing all the fails we had last year.
Yes we failed big last year.

But you are amazing man, I love the better storyline =P

So yeah, good job and hurray ;D
It doesn't work on snes emulator for psp, it crashed just after the game is loaded. What a pity... Anyway, the levels i played on my computer looked great, this hack rocks! I love the earthbound music on the title screen.
I can't get past The Freezing Manor!!!
Forgot to comment on this.

While I don't remember exactly what the previous version was like, I remember my level fairly well...and the numerous bugs in it that weren't fixed (in the new version). It was fun to be part of this project, though, and I hope to have a chance to be involved in more Team Haunted hacks.
Waugh, I can't try to TAS it. It keeps crashing in SNES9X-rr 143 and 151. :<>:
Whoops, totally forgot about this thread.

I have no idea what caused the problem, but this solved it for me at least. The problem appeared only after making the IPS though. Well, hope it works for you guys, and let me know if it works or not. (the best would be if this message could be copied into the hack description).

@Everybody: thanks for the comments, I'm glad you liked the final result.

@Yoshi Girl: (maybe it's late, but anyways) in the puzzle part, when you went into the green pipe, and found the room with the locked door, find an invisible block below the pipe and jump back into it. You'll find the boss door.

Err... does the levels look glitched or something? And your rom might not be clean.

I'm positive that this is a problem caused by the game loading the OW position from a .srm-file from another hack. This is fixed by just deleting the file, or starting a new game file(in the intro, you have an option to choose between three savefiles. Just choose one that says NEW instead of 0).

I found out the rom was not clean. I got it to work. Thanks!
