Strengths:
- Creative level design
- Choosing music that fits the level (if I use custom music)
- Level naming
- Map 16

Neutral:
- Overworld design
- Choosing palettes
- Making levels both challenging and fair (since I've never submitted a regular hack yet, I'm actually not sure how good I am at this, but I think I could do it)

Weaknesses:
- Making sure sprites or parts of sprites don't disappear
- Maintaining difficulty curve (actually not sure how good I am at this since my specialty is Kaizo hacks, but I think it would be really difficult for me)
- ASM (never tried it, but it looks confusing as hell and I'm not really interested in programming)
- Using the Command Prompt

I saw this thread while browsing the forums for possible hack inspiration and figured I might as well post before it dies.

STRENGTHS
Drawing FG ExGFX
Picking fitting music (I may actually be a little too picky since I couldn't find a good athletic desert theme that sounded Egyptian enough and ended up settling for Desert Hills from Mario Kart DS.)

WEAKNESSES
Overworld design (My OW in SMB5R is on the blocky side. This is mostly due to my vision impairment. It's very hard for me to see those tiny tiles. I also don't have the patience for plotting Layer 2 Event paths.)
ASM and music porting (Both seem far too complicated for me.)

I like to redraw graphics sometimes. But i'm sure i'm lacking some originality when it comes to graphics. Not sure about level design, i think i make levels too linear. As for ASM and such, i like playing/messing around with this stuff sometimes.

Yes, i'm really bad at designing overworld and making a plot isn't my thing either
Strengths (i.e. the only things I can do at all):
-Level design. According to most people anyway.
-Overworld design. Not really anything special, but still pretty good, I would think. Not that I've ever gotten much feedback on my overworlds.
-Palettes. Another part of my hack that people seem to like.

Weaknesses:
-Everything else. Seriously. I don't know any ASM, have no music porting/composing experience, I can't draw graphics well at all, never successfully inserted an xkas patch (although, I've only tried once, I think it was because I didn't set free space because I didn't know what the hell I was doing), never successfully inserted custom music (again, only tried once), never successfully inserted a custom sprite (I don't even remember if I've tried that), but I can use the old Blocktool. But I've probably forgotten how to do that by now as well. (Last time I used it was somewhere back in 2007.)

And that's the reason why I'm a vanilla hacker. Also laziness.
The one weakness I think is ok is that you can't do things like this:

But thats the SNESs limitation.

Would you think the snes can display 1337 1st person shooter with 1080px hd gfx?

Yes
I'd say I'm fairly skilled at ASM, but certainly no master of it. I really think it's my forte, so to speak. I'd like to think that I'm pretty decent with level design, as people have seemed to enjoy testing levels in my hack in private tests. I can't do difficult levels, though; I just have a lot of trouble doing so. As far as music goes, I ported one song and it's okay. I can't draw GFX, but usually have no trouble ripping them.
