Tip: Press F2 on the level editor to see sub-screen boundaries. This will help you avoid glitching Dragon Coins by putting them on the sub-screen boundaries.
Differences in Version Numbers?

I was kind of curious what the differences in the different versions are. I downloaded the game at Version 1.3, and now we're at 1.5, but I haven't found anything so far that seems like an update was necessary other than a few very minor graphical glitches (Great job on the game, by the way. The quality of this amazes me, only the difficulty keeps this from feeling like a commercial Mario game!).

Anyways, why were additional versions of this released? I was wondering because I don't want to get really far in this just to realize that it's going to crash or not work and I'll need to update it and start all over.
On versions prior to 1.5 the boss of world 7 can crash your emulator, which is kind of a big deal considering the length of the level to get to it! Other than that, 1.4 leveled out the difficulty of some inappropriately tough levels a tad, making them more in line with the other levels of the world they are in.
As long as you keep your .srm file from the hack, you don't need to start all over, just resume your save file from the place you saved last time. It's convenient that way.
1.5 also fixed another bug which was apparently present in the final version. If you have an earlier version, it's highly suggested that you update.
Wow. I completely forgot how active some of these forums can get. I honestly expected to have to wait overnight or something before getting a response. I suppose that's what I get for just looking at the forums here occasionally instead of actually posting stuff.

Thanks for the information. I'll update it to the new version. I think it may have already been put up on a different thread, and I just couldn't find it, but what was the bug?

Just curiousity, though. Not like I'd actually know anything on how that works. My only hack's been on hold for nearly a year with only 2 levels done. (Drawing ExGFX by hand is a very long, not-fun process, but I want it to look absolutely perfect. Needless to say, i've been putting it off a lot!)
Well, there were a couple in v1.4, namely one within the coding of the seventh castle's boss which caused a freeze. That, along with some other graphical nitpicks that people pointed out were addressed and dealt with.
