I really don't care whether or not we're able to see the upcoming ranks, as I've always found that one of the fun aspects of ranksets. It's interesting posting and not knowing what you're going to get. As Snowshoe said, it's kind of like a Christmas present in a way. It could also be considered as an RPG game. I mean, if you knew what ability or move or powerup you were going to get every single time you got the right amount of EXP, wouldn't it eventually get a little bland? I like being surprised. I mean, technically I'm not much of one to talk, as I don't even use a rankset that levels up from time to time (I use dots), but I'm just giving my input.
I do want the ability to view one's posts and rankset to remain the same, however, as I frequently browse the forums and find users I'm not familiar with, so I look at their postcount. Sometimes I find that they only have a few posts, and others I find they have hundreds and am surprised I don't know them yet. I think this feature comes in handy many other times, too.

I guess it will be nice to NOT know what's next. I think it motivates people to just post spam so they can level up. Maybe it's a good thing it's a surprise.

I didn't say they can't. I said that the users would be encouraged to spam just so they can level up.

They spam, they get banned for a set period of time, there postcount instantly levels out making the entire thing worthless.

That's what I thought the rankset list's purpose was: so people can't use "I want to see what the next image is" as an excuse for making posts with low content. (Not sure if anyone has tried to make that excuse, though.)
On a somewhat related note, I support the addition of the ? block as an actual rankset (it would be labeled "?" in the edit profile menu, and always display the ? block).

This whole ? Block event made me lose all my interest for knowing the rankset list, actualy I even forgot about the old discussion.
@Zeldara, I think a whole rankset with only one rank would be borring, maybe the ? block could be a rank from a bigger rankset that would contain switch palace blocks, P-switches, turn blocks and stufff like that, whe rank would be named like the characer inside, for example: the ? block rank would be named "?" as in the event, the switch palace blocks ranks would be named ! ! ! and ! and so.
Just a sugestion.

I'm sorry that this is quite a large bump, but this is a sticky, so this shouldn't hopefully be a problem.
Anyway, my question is really directed at Kieran, and its about my rankset which I submitted to you via PM in January in which I forgot, and I feel that this was just ignored. I find that the majority of PMs I send to staff, (whilst not many) are ignored. This can be a bit inconvenient for me and other users.
But yeah the main point is, can you apply my rankset to be used? Thanks.

Still, though. I have many other things to do than implement new ranksets. If I at some point read a PM and decide for whatever reason that I won't implement the rankset immediately, I may forget about it. It's perfectly fine to remind me every once in a while, until I get around to it.

I'm pretty happy I didn't give Ultimaximus my list for the Kirby's Dreamland 3 rankset, it's a complete surprise still.

you could just change the rankset to work diferently.Instead of increasing on posts, add an option to vote posts good or bad, and that the amount of positive votes minus tthe negative ones = youre rank.That way, it is worth looking at peoples ranks.

The idea of voting posts has been sugested many times already and it always rejected for several reasons. Mostly because a lot people would bitch if their post are downvoted, and many posts could be voted good or bad just because a certain user made them regardless of their content.

↑ Agreed. I already saw a brazilian SMW hacking forum getting entirely destroyed by a fool moderator, and one of the reasons was this voting posts thing, because of users spamming negative votes. Believe me, when you take an innocent + and a angry - and make the two fight, they makes a lot of destruction...

Well, just like moderators are chosen, a group of x* people could be created, with that groups role is moderating the value of posts, and having accses to a special thread or other with all the posts not rated in cronological order.Also, we could also have a small number wich indicates votes from people other than than the staff
*x being ANY number of people above 5-or-so.
