In short, if you want to make something better than LM, you have to remove all limits, and do something that actually tops it. This doesn't do any of the above.
Nice try.
Admin Priveleges: I'm actually a member of the SMBX boards, and if I can get this to Blue, our in-house bug reporter, it
might be fixed by the next release. No promises, though.
Installation: All the installer really does is unpack files.

To fulfill Lucas's wishes, I'll actually talk about the editor instead of complaining about the LM comparison.
I downloaded SMBX yesterday and gave it a try. It's really quite fun! The level editor is annoying to use, since you can't replace a block until you erase the one that's already there, but it works nicely; that's my sole complaint with the level editor. The World editor doesn't really have the level of customization that SMW's OW does, since it uses only 16x16 tiles for the terrain (except for certain Scenery objects...) instead of 8x8 like SMW does, but it's obvious to me that this is meant to be based on SMB3's overworld, which I like.
Anyways, the gameplay! I love all the new powerups and characters you can play as. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses, and after the Super Mushroom, their abilities from the powerups diverge. Let's take the Fire Flower, for example. Mario's fireballs are normal, Luigi's bounce REALLY low to the ground, Peach's bounce off walls, Toad's bounce...actually, I haven't really checked them out well...and Link throws a fireball straight forward. Same power, different effects. Where they REALLY diverge from each other is the Hammer Suit, though. Only Mario and Luigi actually throw hammers with it, as Peach throws a bomb that explodes immediately upon hitting something, Toad throws a high-speed Boomerang that flies around everywhere trying to get back to him, and Link gets his sword beam, which pierces enemies. That is so fun.
The characters are pretty great, too. Mario and Luigi, of course, play like they do in SMB3, with the addition of SMW's Reserve Box, while Peach and Toad play like they do in SMB2USA, and Link plays like he does in Zelda 2. Only Mario and Luigi can ride Yoshis, and Link can't wear Kuribo's Shoe, nor can he pick up items. Instead, he can move items by slashing at them. Keys, on the other hand, get added to his inventory, just like in Zelda games. Peach, Toad, and Link only get 3 hits each, and Mushrooms, or Pieces of Heart if you're Link, restore one (duh). Speaking of Link, some graphics change if you play as him! Coins turn into Rupees, and most powerups will change into amulets. They still do the same thing as they normally would, though.
Now, the items. The base SMB3 powerups, Mushroom, Fire Flower, Super Leaf, Tanuki Suit, and Hammer Suit, are here, as well a new powerup, the Ice Flower from NSMBWii. However, these are not the only things you get to use... There's also a Propeller Block that lets you jump higher, a "Billy Gun", which, when held, fires out Bullet Bills constantly, and a Propeller Block with a pipe attached to it that fires out Podoboos constantly. There's more than that, you should check them out yourselves! These things are REALLY fun to use.
Overall, I actually like this game! Maybe it's not easy to make your own game with it, but it's definitely fun to play!

Technically it's a HEART BOMB. (I'd know, I sprited it =p)
Lunar Magic alone is quite obviously inferior to SMBX. However, I must admit that along with Spritetool, Xkas, and Blocktool, SMW hacking wins.

I have to admit. SMBX is really fun, a lot better than SMW itself, although the level editor is annoying to use. Lunar Magic is better but the SMBX game itself is better than SMW.

I prefer the two (SMBX and Lunar Magic) Lunar Magic is my hard to create some object (or block) and SMBX is not the most easiest to create an object (or block) more advisable Lunar Magic!

I'm really annoyed at the fact it doesn't have Chargin' Chuck. He's awesome!

I like both but I agree with the editor. Sometimes using it may be annoying and it has some limitations. In SMW with ASM you can also make a brand new game, even much better than SMBX so I prefer LM.

You can always use custom graphics to replace some enemies so it seems like their the actual enemy. (Though they won't act like the original)
But uh... I prefer using SMBX more than Lunar Magic now. oWhy you say??? Well really I like how the interface of the whole editor is like and how simple it is to use. And all dem cheat codes and whatnot. But mostly I like it cuz I find people to actually focus on the level design since you're all limited and whatnot.
While this may not always be the case I find lots of people who SMW hack to focus to make their hack fancy with all that ASM and other jazz and practically not do too good with level design at all. And another reason I like SMBX... overlap scenery and stuff without cut-offs. : )

If you wanted to use a Chargin' Chuck, just use Custom Graphics.

Yeah, he could replace a ie. SMW Ninji for a Chargin' Chuck but he'll die in one stomp instead of three like in SMW. That's pretty sad there aren't all of the enemies (and there won't be more :/ ).

Better Idea: The Chargin Chuck can replace a Bully.

The editor is cumbersome, the Invasion map is beyond confusing and there are no invincibility stars. Other than that I don't see anything wrong with it...

Redigit probably didn't want to add the starman because "the player can cheat". At least it's my though.

The player can do so with smw hacks too but that's not how it goes most of the time, especially if you actually design your levels around that. It's the level creators job to make sure you couldn't skip by obstacles with power-ups/help[yoshi]. Basically, that wouldn't be an excuse.
Not trying to totally down this "editor" but really, lunar magic is better then this 10 fold, you can do almost anything this editor has to offer using lunar magic and a LOT more.

Interesting conversation. Especially since the Hello engine has been completely ignored. I've been looking into it recently and it looks pretty good, plus it's open source and seems to have a plethora of features already programmed into it. Plus being open source you could program anything in that you feel is missing. Just sayin'.

Have you seen Hello's messy coding?
Good luck figuring it out.

plus I was more saying this as in if someone didn't know how to code and add new things. They are kinda screwed. I know they can learn how but some things they may want to add aren't that easily possibly, behaviors and such.

Is it any worse than trying to figure out assembly code that has no documentation from the original programmers what so ever?
Personally I'm used to sloppy code. One thing you'll find is that no one's code, no matter how well documented, will ever be as neat as your own. Besides, the basic functionality for making your own levels in Hello requires no coding and is no more complex than anything LM can do.
