Tip: If you're using the wall-running purple triangles in your hack, remember to add tile 1EB (or a tile that acts like tile 1EB) underneath it. Extended object 44/45 will include this tile for you.

I think the mushroom ? blocks shouldn't be red. The fact that they have ? on them to begin with is because they're not supposed to look any different from ? blocks with other items, like coins.

No complains other than that.

Their red for reasons in the future.
Hey guys, if your seeing this, here's another one. Here's level 3

I am all ears to criticism and feed back so yeah I'd appreciate it.

Note: I use my own audio because I don't have a recording device the let's me record sound.

Sorry, but this doesn't look to good. It looks very bland. Try to spice it up a bit.
You are off to a good start. Your palettes are looking very nice.
Here are my comments on the levels:

LEVEL 1

0:41 - Slight bit of cutoff where the line meets with the ledge corner.

1:20 - Very small bit of cutoff where the bottom slope ends.

1:29 onwards - The cement blocks create cutoff with the pipes.

1:56 - I'm sure the Munchers are rooted to something but they look as if they are floating here since the bottom is not visible.

2:14 - I'm guessing that Message Block says that the pipe is a Reset Pipe which is good.

2:21 - 2:30 - Those jumps are kind of blind. Put in some Coins to guide the player.

2:41 - You probably don't need so many wall Springboards as Mario can jump high enough off of them.

3:03 - Cutoff where the black line meets the slope.

3:22 - Very low time remaining. Maybe add another 150-200 seconds to the clock.

LEVEL 2

4:10 - Blind jump. The player will not know that they need to go down that gap. Either put in a Coin arrow or a line of Coins to show the way.

5:56 - Low time remaining. Add another 100 seconds.

LEVEL 3

Just my opinion, I think the grass and the sky palette is a bit too bright. I don't mind if you keep it like that.

0:38 - Maybe put in a Message Block saying that the blue pipe columns are walk through.

1:55 - The Super Koopa ran through the ground which looks very odd.

2:08 - It is possible for Mario to glitch through the rope in that small gap. You might want to block that off.

2:26 - I don't know if it's possible, but wouldn't Mario be able to jump above the ceiling and get stuck in the ground.

2:35 - Missing corner tile on the end of the slope. Also, Mario could glitch through the ground and die. Block off that gap.

2:58 - Mario continuously walks into the wall after grabbing the Goal Sphere. Move the sphere further back. Also, another very low time remaining. Add about 100-150 seconds.

Overall, I'm liking this hack. Looking forward to seeing more levels! Keep up the good work! #w{=D}
(To georgevssonic)I understand, thanks for being honest. If I may ask, have any suggestions to how I can spice it up a bit?

(To) MarioFan22) Thanks for the feedback and pointers. I was unaware that I missed those cutoffs.

(1:56 - I'm sure the Munchers are rooted to something but they look as if they are floating here since the bottom is not visible.)

Yeah they are, they got cut off because of snag it.

(2:26 - I don't know if it's possible, but wouldn't Mario be able to) jump above the ceiling and get stuck in the ground.)

Yes. I'm not sure how to make it so he can't jump over the ceiling so I just avoided it for now.
Aah, I'll tell you.

- You can change the pallete of the pipes to make it look better.
- You can change the graphics of the stone block or replace it for a different block. Stone blocks don't look that good.
- You can use some more coins here and there.
- You can use some MAP16 tiles to create some nice decorations. Tileset mixing would also do.
- Perhaps some graphical changes for perhaps the pipes. Totalyl my opinion though.

As for your level design, it's really good.

Okay I can totally understand and agree with that. However I'm not sure how to do alot of things, such as graphical changes, mixed tile sets.

As for the other things such as decorations and adding in more coins consider I'll try and do that more.

The only things I seem to know how to do, are creating nice palettes and use custom BGS and FGS and make nice decent Level Designs still learning how to do the others.

Well here are some screen shots for the next two levels I'm working on.

Photobucket

For the level above there's few minor problems like sprite glitching and I don't know how to fix it yet so until then that levels under construction

Photobucket

For this level there's really not a problem so far, it's just getting the tiles to act like the right tiles in map 16

Yeah I'll try and show a video soon. Hacking is not easy work for me
AAAK JPGS! THEY BURN!!!
Serously, use zsnes's pic feature.
Yeah, use zSNES pictures, but hey as long as I can tell what's going on.

Anyway, I like the idea of climbing the walls. In those shots, are you going to change the FG? I don't know - I just associate the Yoshi's Island background with something in a slightly different style. Also, the all-green FG looks... off. In the pic with all the bullet bill cannons, could you see about getting rid of the cement blocks and replacing them with something else? There's cutoff there.

The Sonic-themed level looks fine. Is the level going to play like Sonic - fast and furious? That would be interesting.
If you guys mean take pictures with ZNESZ, I did, however to put them together I used photo-bucket to make a collage.

(To Mission_316) Thank alot for feed back in pointers. The wall climbing, I thought it would be cool to make it look like mario was rock climbing.

The foreground: I probably should change it. I just have a little trouble using custom made foregrounds but defiantly could be done. And thanks for pointing out the bullet bill cut off, I didn't catch that.

As for the sonic themed level is their a way to make it play like sonic, I can defiantly see what I can do.
For the Sonic level I just meant it would progress fast. That's a nebulous definition, though. You know how some levels you feel like you're flying through? I can't really explain - it's just how some levels place objects so perfectly that if you don't try to dash through then it ends up being harder for you.

I can't see an easy way to make that happen in SMW, but you never know. Basically it involves not forcing the player to stop and wait for anything, but that requires a bit of playtesting to get a handle on where to exactly place every single piece of land.

I was just throwing the idea out there anyway - if you have a different (or better) one then just ignore me.

:)

Ah Okay I understand what you mean now. As for this Level, It doesn't focus on speeding through it so much but I will defiantly take your idea into consideration, I think I can pull it off.

Well finally finished the sonic themed level. It took me at least two days max to finish it, and put all the effort into it I could. Hope you viewers that are watching this like it. This is the last level of the 1st world, followed by a boss level.

Making a hack is not as nearly easy as I thought it would, and infact it's hard work for me, and I'm still near the beginning for how long I plan to make my hack.

Ah, this is starting to look way better already.

Totally love the concept. A not-so-generic grassland level eh? Nice use of the Sonic graphics. They actually fit in this time, which is rare to see nowadays. They fit because the level theme is also pretty much speed here and there. Nice level design and great ideas everywere. Some little errors I've seen though... Like the 1UP's. You really place them way to easy and way to much. Don't put in more than one 1UP in a leve, because they still have to be rare. So hide them a bit better please.
I also liked the Mega Mole idea, but it is weird how they are walking through the spikes. That really is wrong, so you should replace something there. I also loved the Mega Mole ride near the end. Great idea.
Just one matter of opinion again, I still don't like the quantity of used blocks and cement blocks. You use them alot, which doesn't look good nor does it fit the Sonic style. A replacement would be cool.

I see you're getting better at hacking every day. Keep up the great work and good luck!
(To georgevssonic)Thanks for the feedback. Yeah I tend to over use the Grey Blocks because their just so easy to find places to use them. But I will use them a lot less for now on.

Hey for those of you who have been following this thread (Basically those of you that care) This will be my last post for the week and possible a few days after that. I'm preparing for a event that's happening tomorrow so I'll be busy for the weekend. I'll be working on the hack again Sunday evening. Just thought Is should let people know so they don't think I've totally giving up.

Anyways here are some screen shots

Photobucket

This Is Kind of a Space theme kind of level.

Photobucket

So yeah as for as level designing, that's how it looks so far, I haven't adding anything in yet. This level is going to involved a few cool gimmicks but most of all it's going to be pretty interesting I think.

Note: By the way, I'm not longer working in level order so yeah just thought I should put that out there before you guys think I'm just pulling out random levels out of nowhere.

With That said comment away.
This hack doesn't look half bad. What you're showing isn't great, but it's a good start. It appears that you know how to insert ExGFX, but editing palettes doesn't look like something you're good at, if you know how to do it at all. It's not a problem though, since the palettes in your levels don't look displeasing to the eye. However, I suggest you read some tutorials on the site regarding a good custom palette. I think I'll watch this thread...

By the way, what the hell is up with your avatar?! Sazh is obviously better {: )

Thanks for the feed back. Question...do you mean over all what I'm showing or just my recent post. Just curious.

And lol I don't know why but I like hope, he kind of reminds me of me, accept the emo-ness
After about almost a week, this thread is alive again with more progress made on my hack (If you care that is). Yeah I had a 3 day overnighter at my house at possibly the worst time ever but anyways I managed to completed another level. It takes forever to actually completed a level but I guess that's a good thing. Anyways enough talking.

3 things I'm aware of.

1. Forgot the Check Point
2. Forgot to adjust the time to a reasonable time limit.
3. Forgot the hintbox/boxes

Was totally unaware of these things after recording and didn't feel like rerecording.

With that said, Please Leave Feedback and see you guys tomorrow (or Later on today I should say)

That's a fantastic level. I really like the enemies and Custom Blocks.
