I've been working on a feature for the 3rd world, where the levels kind of 'overlap' each other.
Example: The first level ends underwater, so the second level will start with a short underwater section before moving on to the main level itself.
I thought it's be neat to try this out, but if anyone has any opinions on it, feel free to say so.
I'll have some new progress to show soon.
I've actually have been using this idea too. I think it would be a good idea to incorporate this in the overworld as well. Like if there is some notable landmark on the overworld, to somehow put it in the level.

That sounds like a nice idea, MR ESC. I think you can think of some creative ideas with that!

@hotsos120: Thanks :). I've changed the BG palette a little since that screenshot.
@enjoirider: I didn't realise you were using a similar idea to mine, great minds think alike I guess ;). I like your idea involving the OW.
@JDC: Thanks. I'm sure you'll like some of the things i've come up with using that. :)
Well, today it's been exactly 1 year since I joined this site, so I thought I must show something hack-related to mark the occasion. These screenshots show my next level, 'The Ascent'.

This is the short section to start with, using the end of the previous level. I wonder what's past those munchers?

This is my BESTEST palette ever.

After going throuh a pipe, it leads to this vertical cave section.

I guess I was too late to show what happens at this part.
What do you think so far?

Looks alright, although I'm not a fan of how you use the castle blocks as 'sewer' FG tiles. It's alright for one level, but when you start to use it over and over and over, it starts to become repetitive.
Oh, you're doing a transition. Disregard the above. Sorry!
It looks quite nice, especially the brown cave part. Interesting.
What is the deal with the funky palette on the 2nd screen?

@JDC: Thanks, i'm glad you like the palette of the cave part :). I was worried it looked a bit plain. Now about that awful palette, yesterday was exactly 1 year since I first joined SMWC, so I thought i'd do something different to mark the occasion. Basically, it's just my crappy sense of humour. ;)

I really like the last screens BG pallette. I dig those red-ish pallttes.
Nice idea for a sewer level though,

Yeah. The palettes of the FG and BG compliment each other very well, in my opinion.

I've been following progress of this hack for awhile now, but I haven't really said anything until now. I must say, this is a great job so far. The level design looks creative and fun, you've really been able to do a lot with vanilla. I really look forward to seeing more of this hack, it really looks like it will be a great one.

Wooh, those palettes are wonderful! It's looking very nice. The level design is splendid for as far as I can see, and you seem to have some variation in your level design too. Nice use of vanilla graphics too! Loving this. ;)

Thanks guys. :)
@1UPdudes: Thanks, I thought the BG tunred out well too.
@JDC: Thanks :)
@akacesfan:Thanks. I always find it goo to know i've got people following my hack. I don't know if you tried the demo yet, but here it is anyway.
@Underway: But my hack's only rated a 0 though D:. I'm kidding, I know the rating systems been taken off, but thanks for the 9 anyway. I guarantee that this will get finished.
@GeorgeVsSonic: Thanks man :). I'm glad you like it, i've got a few surprises in store for those particular levels.
Progress on The Ascent is going well, it's taking a while though, designing a good vertical level takes alot of work.
I've got a few misc screenshot to show anyway.

I've made a new palette for part of the underwater section of 3-2.

Also the 3-2 sewer level has now got a new BG palette.

I haven't placed the enemies for the last 2 screenshots, but this is to show how the layout of the level is going.
What do you think so far?

What do you think so far?
Pic 1: I'm really liking how the BG palette looks, the colors are very nice and appealing!
2: Even though the colors of the FG and BG are a lot different, you pull off the sewer look very well. The stone blocks have the dark colors that a sewer would have, and the BG has that "dirty" feel to it.
3&4: Is this the vertical level that you were talking about? Either way, the palettes and design look impressive as always.
Keep up the good work!

Thanks enjoirider.
Those last 2 screenshots are of that vertical level I mentioned. They're quite time-consuming to make, but it's worth it.

Sorry i've not had any screenshots to show recently. On top of being busy, the vertical level i'd been working on was being a bitch and playing up at every possible moment. The good news is that it's all fully working and I can carry on with other levels now.
I'll have some new screenshots up soon.

Well finally, i've got some more levels done, and i'll hopefully have more time to keep working on this.
I've got a few screenshots of the last cave level of the 3rd world.

This is the small start section, to carry the level over to the next.

This level runs from right to left as the OW paths do.

This level has more lava to it than the previous ones.

It's still WIP, not all the enemies are placed just yet.
