Bowser was sick and tired of Mario ruining his plans. So, he caught Mario off guard and held him prisoner. One day, Toad walked up to Marioís house to tell him Peach was missing again. Little did he know, Mario wasnít there. He was missing. This was Toad's chance to redeem himself as someone important.
About my project Hello everyone. I currently have my first rom hack that I am working on, and have studied Lunar for quite a long time now. And of course, I would like a bit of help. Nothing too serious, though I plan to make a bigger project later on. I need at least one quality worker from each section. Also, you may apply for two jobs if you can manage under time, and can do the job good.
In order to get accepted, you MUST PM me. In the process of this, you need to give me a link to a project of yours, or a screenshot and so forth. Just some proof so I know who I'm accepting. Of course, you will be given credit under the credits, and on the file when and if it is uploaded. I will also need your email, and you can give that to me, once again, in the PM.
ExGFX/GFX Creator -
ASM Coder (Block&Sprite)
Boss ASM Coder
- Tip: Please don't just give an .spc. Submit with a .txt file as well
- This includes generators, patches, and so forth. This does not apply to being a GFX creator. Of course, you could pick just one of these options.
- A beta version will be uploaded on SMWC. It will be your duty to play it, and report any bugs/glitched graphics and so forth to me. It is recommended you keep something with you, so, while playing the game, you don't miss anything or forget to write anything down.
With your job, even if accepted, it is not guaranteed the material you give will be used if you do not make edits to it when requested to. Level making and overworld editing is already managed by me, however, if you would like to apply, you are welcome to. It just isn't guaranteed that these will be used, and is an unstable job. Any contribution at all on any job will greatly be appreciated. Thank you.
This isn't the original post. You can sign up here but the official post is in my signature
Well, I was thinking quite a lot if I should do this or not, but I think its finally time I posted about a project I was thinking of doing for some time: recreate Megaman X in Super Mario World.
Now, its not just the first three games, mind you; I`m planning on also making levels for the PS1 era games as well, with sampled custom music in the style of the first three Megaman X games. Well, here is the project in full detail:
Super Mario World: The Maverick Invasion
Story (WIP): After his last defeat, Sigma thought that just destroying the Maverick Hunters wasnt enough; he would need to take over other universes as well. So, he prepares a portal that lets him go anywhere in the multiverse, and prepares his plan to take over the Mushroom Kingdom alongside Bowser. Now, not only does Mario have to defeat Bowser, his mortal nemesis, he also has to stop the Maverick invasion from destroying the kingdom. How is he gonna do that? Simple. With the help of X, Zero and his brother, Luigi, they`ll go through the countless Maverick hordes while going through every multiverse and befriending every hero in those universes to help their cause.
Well, that`s it, basically. I`ll be mostly in charge of the custom music in this game, but I`ll probably need some other people to help me on the ports, give me feedback (since I`m not that experienced yet) and help me loop the text for the songs.
Also, if anyone is interested, PM me what will you do with the project and I`ll get a topic running where we`ll discuss the project in more detail. That`s it for now.
EDIT: Right now, we are in a bit of need for ASMers and cutscene makers. If you feel you are good enough for this, then you can PM me and I`ll tell you the details of what I`ll need. No need to do this if you dont want to, though. I know how this isnt gonna be something that is gonna be made that easily, and I dont want anyone to be pressured like this.
Also, if anyone`s wondering if any progress has been made, yes, but not by much. I`ll show everything we have made so far in the thread, though, dont worry.
if anyone who likes to design levels but isn't really working on anything but wants to pm me. I do my own graphics and music, so it would be a chance to work with some exclusive custom resources. doing everything myself takes way too much time for me to complete a long enough hack of only my own levels
e: also forget to mention, I'd appreciate it if you could give me a few examples of your work
Mario has had enough of going to rescue the Princess EVERY. DAMN. TIME. So much, that he's decided to get back to his old job: being an actual plumber. His brother Luigi can't really blame him, and Princess Peach has finally hired security guards. Everything is so calm around the Mushroom Kingdom now, you could swear it has always been like this.
But as you guessed, that's the calm before the storm.
One day, while Mario is repairing an old pipe by actively kicking the butt of the Koopas that are clogging it, he hears a loud mechanical whirring, and an earthquake takes place. Intrigued, Mario gets out of his pipe to discover... nothing. Like, actual nothing. The Princess's castle ? Gone. Yoshi's House ? Gone. All that's left of the prosperous Mushroom Kingdom is a large crater. Where could it have gone ?
The answer lies in the sky: an armada of giant helicopters is transporting what was the whole Castle area, which now looks like a floating island. On the helicopters, Mario spots a strange red invincibility star symbol, before they're all gone in the distance, his home land between their claws.
Not discouraged for one bit, our hero gets back to his house (whose half was destroyed in the process), tells his brother to come along with him, and rushes to the local airport.
He proceeds to find here Toads specialized in foreign countries, that tell him the red crest is the official emblem of the infamous Artijok Republic, whose status of "republic" is only affirmed through its name. They're the kinds of neighbor countries you wouldn't have planes fly over unless you want them shot down for some reason.
After reuniting the few coins he had left, Mario pays himself and his brother a trip to the dangerous country, in quest for answers to many puzzling questions.
This hack should be heavily story-based, with custscenes and many character interactions.
Aesthetics-wise, the whole thing should be very vanilla-looking, with various exceptions.
This hack will use two enhancement chips: SA-1, for efficiency purposes, and MSU-1, for adding to the finished product a nice musical touch.
The difficulty is aimed to be like JUMP's: normal in the beginning, more and more challenging as the story unfolds, and really hard when it comes to post-game content.
Many patches and modifications will be applied to the game to serve story and gameplay.
The entirety of the plot is already written, and will be given to any teammate who might need it for creating game content. I'd like to unveil it to the fewest people possible to avoid leaks or experience spoiling.
This hack will need:
They'll always need to work with specific instructions, be it as demanding as "make this level look like an abandoned factory with lots of enemies" or as permissive as "use Koopas". Said instructions will always be put in the clearest way possible, and gladly explained if needed.
They'll need to be creative and use fun gimmicks to provide the player with pleasant gameplay. Once again, said gimmick can be restricted or not.
Qualities in level decoration will be necessary. The game will push Lunar Magic to its limits to look appealing and fun.
Finally, the level designers as a whole will be able to propose unique gameplay experiences (ex: star coins in each level, shops...).
These guys will design the overworld maps, and decide of the way the levels are ordered. Like level designers, they'll push decoration to the max.
Altogether, they'll also have the power to propose (reasonable ways) to enhance the overworld experience (ex: adding score bars, special effects...).
They'll directly work with me to create the codes that will be used in the whole game. This ranges from simple status bar counters to Mode 7 bosses.
I can teach ASM to those that will need help on uncommon types of code. But keep in mind that if you want to participate to this part of the project, you must have some kind of experience, even if it's not important: no starting from scratch.
An occasional composer
While 90% of the game's soundtrack will consist of music that was already ported, certain specific musics may be needed at some point, and that's when he/she will be consulted.
They'll make graphics that feel coherent and all have a similar style so that the game doesn't feel disjointed. Their work will benefit designers that need scenery elements, mostly.
td;lr I need people with experience, but not necessarily very important experiences. As an example, I'll be more interested in someone who makes many unpublished cool levels that someone who ranked first in a contest but only made that level. Public recognition is a criteria but certainly not the only one.
I, as the project leader, will mostly cover hardcore ASM coding and some unique levels's environment designing. I'll gladly help whoever is in need, as soon as my current task has been completed. I'll be completely in charge of the plot, custscenes and important ideas. Talk to me if you have some concerns or ideas, I'm open to discussions.
To apply, PM me with the position you want, and everything that you think would ensure you are hired. I don't care if it's impressive or unimportant-looking: this is about effort.
If you want to take a look at my own experience (which is perfectly understandable) you can simply check my submissions, and the posts where I show level previews or code.
Do not mistake my low postcount or early registration date for a lack of experience: I have about seven years of hacking behind me.

Once every category has at least one member, a dedicated thread will be created.
I really couldn't have hoped for a better starting team. Really, I'm moved to see that people want to help me and that this projects will finally rise from the state of a mere idea to that of an actual work.
As I already said to the very first applicants via PM, I'll try to fiddle a base patch quickly so that we can get started as soon as possible (and by that I mean tomorrow). Truly, thanks again everyone.
EDIT: A Discord server has been created. Link is given to all team members.
ANOTHER EDIT: We're still looking for a GFX artist.
It get's pretty deep lol. It's too long to have it here. If you are considering joining, send me a msg and I'll explain it to you myself haha. I'm on the SMWC discord, so that's most convenient.
The whole hack is interconnected as one cohesive world. So technically speaking, it's "one" level, but it's huuuge.
-Concept Artist (Must be good at drawing on paper)

A Very Super Mario Journey is a hack with a different story then usual. Bowser has kidnapped eight shiba inus, one of them being Doge! There will be nine worlds, the first eight where you fight the shiba inus and the last you fight Bowser. Each world has eight levels. I'll do some level design and graphics, I ain't good at ASM. If you want to join, all you have to do is PM me, with the subject "A Very Super Mario Journey" and the role(s) you want. Once a level and some of the main graphics are done I'll make a thread, for now I want to use PM. I don't have plans on creating a Discord or IRC. Here's the roles:
ASM and UberASM (Blocks, sprites, etc.):
I'd like to have at least one of each before starting the first level, except overworld.
Plot: Mario, after saving the Princess so many times, joins a resistance force against troubles in Mario's world, known as the J.B.C. (Justice Bringing Coalition). However, troubles soon arise. Several of the members of the group become missing, several landmarks have been wiped out without a trace, and the most recent one, a giant tower appearing in a place known as the Bermuda Island, an island already known for its sketchy background. Mario is selected as the person to go investigate this recent anomaly, due to his expertise at saving stuff, and gets stationed at the least dangerous spot. Mario now has to get to the tower, and find the source of what's going on.
Goal: At the moment, I really need level designers. I have an extremely busy schedule now, and it's going to get even busier due to me entering another high-school year next month or so. I want my hack to be completed, because that'll be really amazing, seeing it finally completed. Graphics are going to be chosen by the level creators, but I'll pick the music for the levels if needed (unless it fits in my opinion). I'll help contribute levels as well, as I've completed around 2 1/2 worlds worth of content at the moment. I think the best course of action is to PM me progress of the levels, or ask if you could work for the project with proof of your level design skill, as it's really the easiest way to contact me (I don't really like Discord, sorry ^-^').
Porting music is like walking down a street. Sometimes it goes nicely and sometimes you wANT TO STAB SOMEONE IN THE HEAD DUE TO HOW HARD TH IS IS
A few weeks ago, I talked to Buried Alive (creator of original Dark Side of the Kingdom), and he granted me permission to "restart" the project with a new name and new ideas, while keeping the spirit of the old collab and also taking all the work already done in account (either revamped or referenced somehow).
Blind Devil presents:
Mushroom Kingdom 2 - The Dark Side
MK2TDS is an open SMW team hack which aims to be fun, consistent, interesting and original, acting as a sequel to Mushroom Kingdom - Under Crimson Skies while also retaining the spirit from the old Dark Side of the Kingdom collab started and led by Buried Alive. In other words, it's a hack which retains the original SMW feel in most aspects, while taking some liberties.
This project is a big one, although it doesn't aim to be the next JUMP or VLDC collab. It uses the maximum amount of exits that the original SMW can provide - up to 120 exits.
Now, for more detailed information:
> This hack has 8 worlds, 95 levels, and 120 exits.
> Difficulty range: easy to hard.
> This hack uses no enhancement chips.
> Wario is the main character, and he can do a dash attack by pressing L/R.
> Flowers/Feathers are used. Yoshi, however, is not - baby Yoshi is replaced by a friendly Muncher called Alcy, which never grows up.
> Soundtrack will be entirely original. Custom sample usage will be discussed, but we'll probably make a global collection of samples to use rather than going free-for-all or unsampled.
> Storyline, claimlists, base ROM and more details are found in the Discord server.
So yeah. If you want to apply as a designer/composer/helper, you can send me a PM or DM via Discord. You'll be invited to the Discord server and will have full access to all necessary info in order to be able to help with this project. Also note that this will be my main project from now on, so no matter if I get helpers or not, a hack thread will eventually come to life, with even more details and contents to show, and I'll constantly work on it. Lastly, I'll take care of a good bunch of stuff, of course, such as complicated ASM at most, but also taking part in all other roles. Worth to mention as well that the first base ROM is already set up, with some already old revamped levels and submaps, global ASM and an intro cutscene.
tl;dr - I'm looking for level designers, submap designers and music composers to work for MK2TDS. ASMers, drawers and testers are also welcome but there are no tasks planned yet.
The word himajin was from (From 閑/暇 (ひま, hima) meaning "free time" + 人 (じん, jin) meaning "person"). Originally starting out as a group of close friends just wanting to make a hack in their spare time, itís been expanded to more people and still works under our spare time. The current team includes: Kaisaan Konata Izumi
This basically started much after Luigiís Revenge (Kaisaanís old hack) seemingly died out of lack of motivation/ideas. However, it spawned a spiritual successor in the form of Project L & Knuckles, a hack that wasnít originally going to be collaborative, but thanks to a certain user (who prefers not to be mentioned), it soon became a collaboration project between a few close friends. We tried settling for a name for the hack, which included, but was not limited to: Mario of Shadow (a reference to a Japanese hack called Luigi of Shadow), Project L (now itself being taken by another hack during our hackís development), Luigiís Bizarre Adventure (taken from another dead hack with a similar name), etc. Due to being unable to find a better name, the project is using the tentative title of Project L & Knuckles.
While Luigi was walking through the woods, just outside of the Mushroom Kingdom, he spots a strange person that seems to be injured. Unsure, Luigi brings the stranger to the Mushroom Kingdom to heal them. The kind stranger explains that theyíre from another dimension and that Bowser tried messing with them once theyíve arrived. Luigi, wanting to help out his new friend, plans to go on a quest to take revenge on Bowser, and to bring his friend home. However, the person also explains that Bowser plans on opening portals to other worlds/dimensions as well. Talking echidnas, clones and dimensional travelling shenanigans ensue (which may or may not include rainbow goddesses).
Here are some screenshots of what he have so far:
We plan on showing off more things during C3, as well as submitting a small level sampler to the site a bit after. We still have many things to finish before we can do that, such as getting more levels completed, and adding more technical stuff (like patches/cutscenes).
Little known fact: this post was written by the entirety of Team Himajin, but since you know it it's not a little known fact anymore...Hi, I'm a signature! Hack Thread Hack Testing Status: Available. Layout by Koopster.
The original idea was about Mondo Oowada and Lucy Loud being caught and jailed inside Castle Von Tedistein, the adventure would take place in one huge level like an open world able to explore the castle and try to find an exit of the place, you could meet allies that you must aid, fearsome bosses and such... but I decided to scrap the entire concept and changing it for something else...
The New Brand Storyboard
A Koopa named Drey was doing his normal daily works on his house, until one moment, he heard door knocks, opening the door, it was an army soldier bear known as a Tediz, who arrested him as his brothers in arms captured his neightbours, being carried prisoner, he decided to escape, when the Tediz noticed Drey, they executed him in a quick way by flaming him to ashes... as there was nothing left, the army proceeded to move away with the prisoners captured. Drey slowly risen from the flaming ruins transformed into a Dry Bones, and now as an undead, he searches revenge against the army of foreign creatures while also looking for the responsible for commanding these bears. During his quest, he will be aided by Neaw, a catman-like creature who has a huge hunger...
Because putting Mario or Luigi in a hack is so mainstream...
Hey so Iím doing a joke hack for April 1st. Iím sure you may have seen me hint at it in discord perhaps. Well... I may need help getting it out on time. PM me for details on discord preferably, I donít wanna release spoilers for it JUST yet.
But I need the whole of SMWís vanilla overworld levels to be edited. And Iím only at donut plains as of the making of this post. I also plan on streaming some of it, while I make it.
One thing Iíll mention right now, its not a kaizo hack. Just a prank project for April fools, and I want some people to just help me with some basic level design.
The timeframe is from whenever I post this to march 30th. And each level, really, wonít take you any more than 2 hours tops, its really simple.
My discord ID is in my profile, but Iíll plop it here as well.
