Can't connect to the Mojang website

I'm honestly confused about this. For some strange reason, my computer refuses to connect to the Mojang website. If I try to, it says "Waiting for mojang.com", but the progress bar never fills any bit, and after a little while, it just gives up and displays the URL in place of anything else. I have no clue why it does this. I've asked for advice on IRC, but no one has any answers. My only theory is that it might be because I set my computer to use a static IP, so I can host Minecraft servers, but if I turn it off, I can't host those servers anymore without using Hamachi because I have to use a router, which sets its own IP, which is dynamic, and I don't want to get my parents to pay more for the internet just for a static IP.

Please help!

EDIT: it wasn't the static IP at all...

If you are absolutely sure that it's not simply the Minecraft website down (as it 80% of the time is), and you are certain that the static IP is what's causing the havoc, you can do the following:
  • Set your computer/server/whatever to use DHCP
  • Go to DynDNS' Dynamic DNS Free and set up a free site, which, unless you have a dedicated DNS for your server, would only be beneficial
  • Download and install DynDNS Updater. What this does is detects for IP changes on your computer and updates the IP address of your DynDNS account
  • Give your players the DynDNS address to use instead of the static IP
  • Done!
Did I mention this entire process costs $0.00?

I said MOJANG, not Minecraft. They're two different sites. The Mojang website is mojang.com, which I THINK is for the company itself...but like I said, I can't connect to it.

I'm not entirely certain that the static IP is the problem, but I don't know how to figure it out either way without turning it off...and then, if it turns out that's NOT the problem...I don't know what to do. :(

also for the record i forgot how to turn off the static ip haha...

EDIT: I finally remembered how to. I had to disable it because it somehow kept me from connecting to any websites. :< In the process, I found out, the static IP had nothing to do with it. But...this just makes things worse. I have no clue now why I cannot connect to mojang.com...

Check your AV to see if it blacklisted it. Minecraft may have scanned a port, or something under the Mojang ip. It got smwc and caffie working for me.

What's "AV"?
Looks like it means "antivirus" in this context.
Antivirus, yeah.
I was using AVG at the time
