watched the 3 first ep's today... simply hooked already

even my avatar is shapeshifting... oh my
I actually have a Spike model I've made for SM64 that I've been planning on using as my avatar once I get the damn thing importing correctly.

Also, in case anyone gets the wrong impression, I like the extended version of the song. It's good (especially the second verse) It's just after hearing a snippet of the theme from that Twilight plushy a year ago, I kept thinking how would they link it into a full theme which lead to my unrealistic expectations. I guess I was a little close minded but sue me this was pretty much in the back of my head for over a year now. The song still feels a little unpolished no matter how I try to spin it.

EDIT: So, I decided to start practising animation. I think I might have a long way to go in order to get good (or at least as good as the other pony fan animators), but this seems like a alright starting point.

Anyone still working/thinking about working on a pony SMW hack? Perhaps someone can make a drop-in team hack?

(by "drop-in" i mean one person creates a thread and lays the ground work, while anyone interested can just contribute what they think they can. If it gets a month of in-activeness then the OP will put together what they have and release it.)

I would do it, but i don't think i can be trusted leading, only contributing.
Busy on other projects, unfortunately. Otherwise I'd probably of finished that automatic pony level I've been thinking of...
I'm way too lazy to actually make a MLP SMW hack. Maybe references and that stuff.
Official Derpy response:
Quote
The 'My Little Pony Friendship is Magic' series has always been about acceptance and inclusion, and the series strives to convey that through the playful antics of a diverse cast of characters," Hasbro spokeswoman Nicole Angello told us over email. "Some viewers felt that aspects of the episode 'The Last Roundup' did not stay true to the core message of friendship which is the heart and soul of the series. Hasbro Studios decided to make slight audio alterations to this single episode.

#mlp{ts}

Holy hypocrisy batman. This pushed me from "meh it sucks but I don't really care" to "where's that derpy petition so I can sign it".

I've never really liked Derpy and I think the new voice is a lot better, but irrational bigotry really irritates me. The show has always been about inclusion and friendship, as the PR response says... so why the hell are we saying a character is inappropriate? Why the hell are we excluding rather than accepting? There's nothing wrong with Derpy; her flaws are endearing to her fans, not being mocked.

What they're saying is there is a "wrong" way to be a girl, and Derpy is it. That pisses me off.
It's not the character itself that's inappropriate, it's the name they (read: we) given her. Let's say we kept with Lauren calling her Ditzy Doo, it would make perfect sense as it's hardly considered an insulting name. But well "Derpy", that was a name made by a few people on 4Chan mostly to insult the pegasus they thought they probably never see again.
Which is why they changed the eyes and voice?

I LIKE the changes they made! Ditzy Doo sounds like a better name to me, anyway, and the old voice kinda sucked. It's their reasoning for the change that bugs me.

They specifically said her voice (no mention of the eyes or name) violated "inclusion and friendship" somehow. How, exactly? All I can think of is people might think it's mocking the disabled (just the eyes or mental disability too, depending on your interpretation). That's blatant positive discrimination if that's the reason, which is an utter insult to the handicapped.

EDIT: In case people aren't sure what I mean by "positive discrimination," have the tvtropes article.

Notable reasons it is bad:
Quote
Unlike with other minorities, it has not yet become generally recognized that disabled people can be portrayed just about any way non-disabled ones can be.

Quote
[sometimes], they're just concerned about looking sexist or racist if the only "X" on the show does something wrong, since "X" isn't on the list of Acceptable Targets

And why Hasbro has good reason to fear Derpy being seen as handicapped, but that doesn't make it any less insulting:
Quote
The issue of Positive Discrimination can lead to a case of Unpleasable Fanbase. On one hand, lack of Positive Discrimination, as stated above, puts the writer in danger of being called racist, sexist, etc. just because they gave the Token Minority something as heinous as a common flaw.

I've 'finished' my documentary. IT has to be done by Friday and I have a first final version.

However, it's private at the moment.

If anybody would like to view it to review it and give critique, PM or post to let me know.

So, the time restrain for our documentaries was Five minutes (excluding credits).

My original intent was to include both non-fan reactions and opinions of the show as well as covering the internet fandom, haters, and cool things about the show's writers etc.

That couldn't fit in five minutes. The keep-able interview footage I got couldn't fit in five minutes.

What I have instead is a fine minute video that introduces the idea of bronies and My Little Pony, shows examples of fan-made stuff, shows interviews with non-fans who were forced selected to watch a few episodes, and fan interviews.

Also, features music by AgileDash, who was very enthusiastic about (his/her?) music being used.

Megan McDonald: They have no lives!

Ilana Winters: Uhhh, they sound like hippies...

Two last notes- I haven't asked Hasbro for permission to use their clips yet. And this video is in HD, but it was my first time using an HD camera so its not perfect.

tl;dr: finished documentary need opinions before finalizing let me knot if interested.

I had an idea of making one, but I thought it would get removed since I didn't see any hacks.
Also, this is my very first post here. I have been here for a long time, but never posted on the forums before.

Edit: And by "didn't see any hacks", I meant "didn't see any MLP:FiM hacks".

Pretty much any hack of any theme is fine.

Well, provided it's not pornographic or something. (though wasn't there one hack with a "hentai museum" as an end of game bonus?)

@Dotted

I'll take the hippy comment as a complement. Neato that you're almost done, though!

There are no MLP:FiM hacks out there, but I might be the first person to include a MLP level in my hack!

click the emoticons! ----> #mlp{rd} and #mlp{rd} and

Yeah, any theme except pornographic is fine. How did that Hentai get accepted anyways? Meh. I also made a Derpy and Twilight graphic replacement for Yoshi as well. Wow, now my layout even has TS in it. Maybe I should tone it down a little?? Nah.

It has a warning on the download page, iirc. And of course SNES graphics are pretty limited, so most people found it more amusing than titillating.
That would be PitMK

but anyways, getting back on track, I too am very disappointed by Hasbro now =/
I don't even give a damn about that episode, and would be happy if they retconned the whole thing, but the reasoning they gave for changing derpy pisses me off no less >_>

But even then... I'm still glad they made the changes(new voice and name removed anyways; un-derp not as much), so it's really hard for me to react =/
Speaking of MLP levels, I've been thinking about doing these kind of levels in my hack.
Bronies- A Brief Documentary on an Unexpected Internet Subculture

Please read the video description and watch in HD if you can.
I mentioned this in brief on youtube...
Pretty well done. Definitely if you were approaching this scientifically it's pretty biased towards MLP. But as simply a piece of media, it's fine. Really showing purpose and design in the way you construct your documentary would help. Honestly, I know little/nothing about film design, but it appears to me you captured the documentary motif (flow of visuals, and format) without really approaching the underlying design of a documentary (the responses you chose, the narration esp. language, the visual/audio match up,etc is really where this becomes clear).
In terms of raw production value, audio mixing was a particular issue. A professional audio track separates the good from the great. I'm not sure if this is HS or college, but either way it's worth considering.
In general, I liked it and you did a good job. The polish is really where it falters and that takes triple the reasonable amount of effort to really make it shine.
Happy Derpy day, I guess?

I'd much rather an Applejack day.
I'm relevant to Derpy Day I guess. #mlp{dh}
