I like the MLP page layout too. The font could be easier to read if the letters were a tiny bit wider, and darker (which was already brought up).

Err uh wow.
First third: Awesome!
Second thrid: Horrible
Final third: Awesome again!
Basically any scene with the jerk dragons was painful to watch. I really, really get sick of fantasy/sci fi/etc that makes every member of the species/race act the same. I love the moral of "what you are isn't who you are" but I don't think they got it across very well.
Using tvtropes to explain it, this does not make this any less silly. If they want to explain how not everyone in X group has Y behavior, then they need to show more of those in X group not having Y behavior, not just one single exception.
Ignoring the moral and yawning through the jerk dragon initiation, it was pretty damn awesome. I loved Twilight/Rainbow/Rarity here. Any scene they were in was absolutely fantastic.
Dunno how I rank it. It's a weird one. I'm very much leaning toward the positive side, though.

Fluttershy's assertiveness at the beginning could arguably count as continuity from the episode two weeks ago. I always seem to love continuity for whatever reason.
Also, I was surprised they didn't give the phoenix egg back to the parents. I guess it wasn't such a big deal since they had four other offspring.

They were long gone and not too happy anyway.
Also, dunno if it applies to phoenixes as they're rather sentient, but most birds do not accept eggs back into their nest if picked up and returned.

Those douche bag dragons must be form New Jersey. One of them sound like Dan from Dan Vs. This episode belongs in a top 10 or 20. Seeing a phoenix was pretty cool, especially the baby ones.
Also this made me piss my pants.

After watching this episode, i realize how adorable Spike actually is.
Pretty good episode. It had a lot of funny parts, and the beginning was hilarious. I saw Cranky Doodle Donkey too, nice continuity.
Spike's got a new pet now? I wasn't expecting that but that phoenix is cute.
Eh, the jerk dragons... i guess they were jerks because they were teenagers.

This may be coming out of left field a bit, but I've acted the same way here. After a debate over silly little things elsewhere, I realize I'm not giving an accurate representation of my views on things; instead I'm mostly pointing out the bad. Consider this my apology, and have some of what I thought was awesome about today's episode:
Originally posted by moiYou know what? I've been nitpicking everything to hell and back, and I'm a bit tired of it. I don't point out problems to try to drag anyone else down. Nothing's perfect, and I'll be the first to point out imperfections, but not out of malice. I'm just the type that, when seeing something, is always trying to find ways to improve it.
But fuck that. I've been having debates and arguments with people all week over little things, and it's probably because I'm so nitpicky. It's time I gushed about what's good, not bad.
Twilight/Rarity/Rainbow stole the show, here. They were goddamn awesome in every scene they're in. The dragon costume was nifty and hilarious. I felt they genuinely cared and weren't just there for contrived comedy.
"Spikey Wiky" is perhaps the best way they can go about the spike/rarity relationship to keep it ambiguous; people like me who would find her behavior reprehensible if she doesn't share his feelings are pacified, as are those who'd be squicked out by the age difference.
Rainbow being worried about Spike being hurt was a good bit of characterization, I think. I raised an eyebrow because being concerned about being hurt is not something associated with Rainbow, but it's still something a normal person would see. She's not being flanderized, and subverted my expectation of her being such, which is good.
Spike had Applejack's blanket he got waaaay back in Secrets of my Excess. You can see it during his walking montage. That's more than a continuity nod, I think; it shows he's conquered his materialism without having to avoid gaining attachment to objects. It's a bit d'awww inducing too, since those gifts had meaning enough to him to take one with him.
World building is great! I heard some complaints that ponies not knowing about dragons didn't make sense, but it seems fine to me; Celestia probably knows a decent amount, but not the answers to Spike's questions. Also, all dragons so far have been shown to be fearsome, sentient, and keeping to themselves; mortal ponies probably wouldn't dare to go near them, or would be pushed away/eaten if they did try to research them. It also gives weight to Celestia's decision to send them up to the dragon in Dragonshy; most ponies probably wouldn't be up to the task (Daring Do is fictional, after all), but we've got the group that could stare down Nightmare Moon, and they're also in close proximity.
Also really liked the phoenixes. Not much to say about them other than the traits on display were pretty nifty and cool. Philomena was more annoying than anything; these are badass. Also, most birds would not take an egg back that fell out of their nest; them not taking back theirs either (we HOPE they wouldn't for whatever reason, anyway...) is more good world building, and shows they're not quite as sentient as ponies or dragons.
Did I mention Twilight/Rainbow/Rarity were awesome? They were.
You may note that list is longer than the one of nitpicks I had before. That's because this episode was overall good, not bad. The strengths outweigh the weaknesses, imo.
And for fun: RANDOM MASS GUESSING TIME!
In the last two episodes we've gotten letters from Celestia that aren't fully read. Something about a dog in last week's (not necessarily talking about Cerberus!), and this week's.
Foreshadowing that the ponies are missing something important? We gonna have three unread letters for the remaining non-finale episodes?
Maybe I'm hyping myself up over nothing, but squeeeee if they're actually doing more continuity. The letters in RoH was one of the best scenes in the entire series.

A Pony Fairy draws near.
The current episode is called Dragon Quest and I was like "What? I was expecting some references from the Square-Enix RPG game." Nope, this isn't really Dragon Quest game, it's a My Little Pony episode called "Dragon Quest." I wasn't really appealed to the 2nd third of the episode, but I was entertained to the rest of the episode.

If you are a true Pony fan- the greatest fanfiction I have ever read, and I absolutely hate fanfiction. The End of Ponies. Link at bottom of post, I'd read mine before you skip this post/click the link.
I got to chapter 4 before I just couldn't take it anymore. It feels surreal and sad to say that this story has emotionally affected me more than anything else I've ever read as far as I'm currently aware. I dunno. Maybe I'm just being emotional right now. But it's worth checking out. At just over 500,000 words, it is longer than the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy. It's only halfway done. It's dark, it's depressing, and the redemption is the true form of it; catharsis. Maybe it's just because I react so strongly to these sort of ideas -- I can't explain why -- but for me at least this was an absolute rollercoaster. Maybe one day I can pick it up again; I've read more voraciously than I have in years. But every paragraph just seems to prolong the suffering.
Not for the faint of heart. The first chapter will break you.

EDIT: I did break. Ch7. Still awesome.

Dark, depressing, and prolonging suffering? Sounds like an absolute freakin' blast. I'll read it as soon as I find my razor blades.
Well, while I'm here, I may as well comment on the new episode. It was good for the most part, although once again, Kaijyuu and his TVTropes links have a good point. Spike's story reminds me of Luna and the Cutie Mark Crusaders a bit. I do hope some of these things get sorted out in Season 3, especially if the show ends after that. The phoenixes were cool, and the girls were amusingly cute...or cutely amusing? Whatever. It made me realize that we haven't had a Rarity episode in a while, although that's fine with me since she's my least favorite main character.

Well, I attended my first group meetup. I can't bash it if I've never tried it right? Well needless to say I felt very uncomfortable. It had about 20 guys and 8 girls so it was a fairly large meetup. I guess I just feel more comfortable discussing it through the internet and not IRL. Free pizza, pop and cupcakes though so it wasn't too bad. We ended up watching four episodes of the show too. I was still too uncomfortable though. I just felt out of place.
Also, someone in there knew who Raocow was and knew who I was with the MGU2 'Super awesome happy' level. So it felt like being a celeb for a little while! So I guess that was a pretty cool experience.

What made you uncomfortable? Was it just the fact that people were "weird", or are you just naturally shy? I'm actually curious - I've never been to one of these, nor do I really intend to go, but I'd still like to know why it felt so weird all the same.

@SNN
I am extremely shy. I mean like to the max. Just being around large groups of people make me uncomfortable in general. It's just my nature I suppose.
But the people weren't weird. They seemed to be pretty normal guys. I wanted to go to see how it would be. I guess it's not really my thing, but if they do have another meetup I'll probably go again since I'll know what to expect next time.
(But I didn't stick around for the group photo.)
Extra: We watched Party of One, Winter Wrap-Up, Sisterhooves Social and Bridle Gossip.
