I'm queer in this respect, Hacks I like
TSRPR, Mario's Lost World, Super Mario Odyssey and The Muncher Run...
And... that's about it... not a single other one I've really found special...
Disarray!
Yeh... I dunno why I'm on this site...

1.- The Second Reality Project: The best hack i've ever played. It's level design is awesome, music is really well done and the graphics are really cool. The hack's plot was the most original plot i've ever seen. By far the best hack ever (IMO).
2.- SMW: The Secret of the 7 Golden Statues: A very well done hack! The ASM gimmicks are brilliant, and the addition of the star coins was a nice touch. The plot is very interesting too, as well as the level design.
3.- Mario Gives Up: The plot was really funny! The level design was creative, and the secrets were fun to find. The music is well placed and the OW is really cool.
I really recommend these hacks. This is how a hack should be

1-Kaizo Mario 1 (I like challenges)
2-Vip Mario 5 (complete)
3-SMW Yeah!!
4-A Super Mario Thing
5-Brutal Mario
I Love These Hacks. You'd love these too!(but not kaizo mario LOL!)

My Top 5:
1. SMW2+3: The Essence Star!
I just love this hack, it ressembles an RPG-like feel. I have completed it fully and realized how much fun it was!
2. Super Mario - The Cookie Crisis
Just an awesome hack IMO. It has a vannila feel. With a great OW and a great hack to play when bored!
3. Luigi and the Island of Mystery
Agreeing with GVS here. It's just fun to play.
4. Brutal Mario
A great hack by carol. Not the best level design though. But lots of cool gimmicks which I like.
5. An SMW Central Production
Some good, some bad levels. But the reason I like it is because it is great how it all pulled together!
That's my top 5!

I haven't played that many hacks. I almost feel bad for including mainly well-known hacks. These are not necessarily ranked in order, and I'm not absolutely sure these are really my top 5.
-Super Demo World TLC (so many levels, so much variety)
-TSRP (like an official SMW mission pack sequel, almost)
-Cool or Cruel (a Kaizo hack that's actually fun and not a Kusottare clone)
-Return to Dinosaur Land (I can actually do it w/o savestates)
-Super Challenge World (I usually tend to prefer SMW hacks that might as well function as mission pack sequels. For those who don't go on TvTropes, I'm talking about vanilla hacks).

I haven't played a ton of hacks, but here is my list so far.
5 - Super Mario Omega - I haven't seen this one on a ton of lists and I am genuinely surprised for that. The graphics look very nice and the level design has a huge variety. The special world is also cool because it throws back to various games including Super Mario Land, Startropics, and Zelda II. The difficulty is also very fair.
4 - A Super Mario World Central Production - This one is on here because it really is very well made, even with the uneven difficulty spikes and sometimes bad level design. The graphics looked great and the plot was basic but funny. Like I said, some of the levels are ridiculously annoying, but the feel of everyone coming together to contribute makes this hack great.
3 - Mario's Amazing Adventure - Again, I haven't seen this one on many lists and I am genuinely surprised. It is one of the few hacks I have beaten without savestate abuse, and that feels great. I loved all the throwbacks to older Mario games, (Super Mario 64, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario Bros. 3) that helped this hack come to life. The level design was also great as well.
2 - Super Demo World The Legend Continues - This is one of the deepest hacks ever made. There is so much level and graphical variety it is mind blowing and that's what makes this level great. The difficulty is also fair and the new concepts really stretch what LM can do, and that's what makes me love this hack.
1 - The Second Reality Project Reloaded - Was there any doubt that this would be number one? The graphical variety and story were very intriguing, as well as the best overworld I've ever seen. The difficulty curve is also fair as well, it strikes a nice balance between fun and hard. This really is the best hack ever made and should be downloaded.
