Possible Third Kaizo Contest?

Will, you shouldn't worry too much on that, I'm pretty sure that once words out about a new contest, everyone will come streaming in because its a contest "made by smwcentral". People should just make their level bsnes compatible to begin with, along with other emulators as well. But if they don't want their level in the Kaizo Pack, and don't make it all-emulator-compatible, I'd say thats ok too.
Really, music is the only thing to worry about since almost every sprite and patch seems to work on bsnes (barring japanese reasources). So unless you are coding your self, not much to worry about. (lololol bad punctuation coz of tiredness)
I'm perfectly fine with the restrictions, but I would like LevelASM to be available to us. It would allow for much more interesting levels, and is also easily compatable with a collab hack, since you would just have to include the code with your submission.

I agree, plus it's the only ASM I can successfullly pull off at the moment :3
What are the restrictions for difficulty here? Are we doing a strictly kaizo level thing, or can we do pit levels? (or perhaps a pit star world or something)
Since I'm officially a judge for this contest, I'll just say that:
For me, you can do any type of Kaizo, just do a fitting difficulty for the type of Kaizo you make, I'll obviously rate difficulty, but a pit level can easily beat a kaizo level on the Difficulty standard if its difficulty is good for a pit level.

tldr:
Kaizo with Kaizo difficulty = good.
Kaizo with Pit difficulty = bad.
Pit with Pit difficulty = good.
Pit with Kaizo difficulty = bad.

How's this for pit:

I'll make the palette/BG better later.

The forced walljumps are not really needed

Here's how I tend to classify Pit:

A bunch of small sections (screens, rooms, etc.) with one key thing in mind, and they jack up the difficulty to make that one key thing hard to be as hard as possible.

As far as Kaizo goes:

Areas that abuse a bunch of small things, and make it difficult accordingly.

This is a horribly vague way to put it, but it's the best I can come up with in writing. It really varies between hacks.

Will: using the scale that Maruhai said, I'd say that screenshot is between Kaizo with Kaizo difficulty, and Kaizo with Pit difficulty. I prefer the Kaizo > Modern Kaizo > Pit scale, though. That'd be Modern Kaizo.

Do not tease me before the beginning of the contest you wanker ! :O
@ will - meh, looks more around cool or cruel difficulty :/
By "Poll", I really meant poll. Should we enforce bsnes compatibility for all entries, or only for those entering the collab?
look we all want to start this third kaizo contest asap but we can't decide over the emulator answer easy zsnes snes9x and bsnes can all play super mario world hacks so we use all 3 emulators for our kazio hacks it doesn't matter which one we use they can all emulate mario world hacks no problem

Well, we all know bSNES is the worst emulator for TASing, so I don't really see the point of having an obligatory bSNES compatibility, for an usual level design contest I can uderstand, but for a Kaizo one ?

Only for those in the collab... Otherwise I don't see the point.

The point in it being bsnes compatible is to make ourselves look better as a community (that's how I see it, anyway). Kaizo hackers have the brutal stereotype of us not caring what out hacks look like, just so long as they're absolutely unfair. Making this contest have a requirement for bsnes compatibility could prove that we actually do give a damn about what we make, even if it's minute.

It's also what everybody else is doing, so we must conform. <--If you think this is meant to be taken seriously, I will hunt you down and eat your unborn children for not understanding my sense of humor.

I'm pretty sure you don't understand the argument at all.

lolwut.

C|C never forced walljumps. This is harder.
In addition, bsnes/SNES compatibility would ensure that the hack is compatible with all future versions of ZSNES and Snes9x.
oh I understand the argument alright but you can't start the contest all because they can't choose an emulator to start the contest everybody wants bsnes but zsnes is the best choice for any kaizo hack

Modern Kaizo my ass. I played I Wanna Save The Princess and this reminds me of that hellhole.

Or Burning in Hell II. Seriously. After half an hour I had not gotten out of the first screw-you at the start. AFTER BEATING THE FIRST ONE.
there is no more future versions of zsnes the owner never updated the emulator the last time he released zsnes v1.51
