Aren't they working at v2.
there han't been any news about a newer version since v1.51 was released in 2007
And I've never heard of anything after 1.52 for Snes9x..
I've heard things regarding ZSNES v2.0, and yes, if it's ever released it'll have a more accurate sound engine. Also, Snes9x v1.52 was released just a year ago, I'd say there's going to be more versions in the future (although v1.52 already has an accurate sound engine that breaks most SMW hacks).

I'm not saying that you have to use bsnes for testing or playing your entry, I'm saying that it'll have to be *compatible* with it, to ensure that future, more accurate emulators don't break on it (who knows, maybe SNESGT will gain popularity, or another SNES emulator). Of course, one ought to aim for SNES compatibility, but bsnes is the closest we have that is easily accessible. Of course, if you really don't like that, then just say so and it will only be required for being in the collab.

Remember, compatibility is only a matter of using HuFlungDu's addmusic that works exactly as romi's, and copying some text to the top of your song (or redownloading it, Kieran has used a script to fix all the songs in the music section). If you need more help, we'll be here to help.

I'm positive you're not understanding the argument.

We want to know if we should require hacks to work with bsnes because it is almost exactly like an actual SNES. We're not saying that you need to only use bsnes and nothing else; we want to make sure these hacks are playable on an actual [pseudo-]SNES, which is what bsnes is.

It doesn't mean you have to play the levels on bsnes, it means that they need to work with that emulator. If it works with bsnes, 99,999 times out of 100,000, it'll work with Snes9x and ZSNES.

Got it?

Fakeedit: Will, 1.52 is relatively new. It came out January of last year. Don't expect an update that quickly.

Damnit Ulti.

Oh, I just thought that v1.52 had tons of sound glitches. :|

Modern Kaizo my ass. I played I Wanna Save The Princess and this reminds me of that hellhole.

Or Burning in Hell II. Seriously. After half an hour I had not gotten out of the first screw-you at the start. AFTER BEATING THE FIRST ONE.

Derp. The original Kaizo was meant to be played savestateless, which most hacks these days are not. That is the difference of "Kaizo" and "Modern Kaizo", whether it has been proven able to be played savestateless.

Anyway, back on the topic of this poll: I full out agree with it. Even if this a forum for a completely different "kind" of SMW hack, it should still follow the same rules as any other hack must follow.
@ will, well wall jumps are an exception but they arent hard. and for the rest of the level you left a shitload of open space that probably could have been filled in to make it harder

@ LaularuKyrumo what are you saying about modern kaizo? too hard or too easy?

In addition, bsnes/SNES compatibility would ensure that the hack is compatible with all future versions of ZSNES and Snes9x.

Oh yeah, seeing things like that, I get it, and I totally agree.
However, I don't agree with forcing everyone to make it bSNES compatible, because it could block a lot of original ideas, and ruin some entries.
YES please I would love this so much!
Hm... I wonder how easy it'd be to simply *encourage* bsnes compatibility, and fix it up ourselves for the collab.. But why must the job be harder for us if the author can easily do it themselves? Hm..
i say we encourage it. that would open the contest up to more people, not much more, but might get us a few more people. it cant be all that hard to make the level compatible with bsnes, is it?
My vote goes to enforcing the rule of bsnes compatibility.

Don't think we're going to be allowing forced walljumps.
um i used one in the last contest and i believe kaizoman did too. and i im pretty sure ulti even said that they were something for the difficulty category.
We're decreasing points for using them this year. I don't know if we're going to be using the same system as last year.

Technically mine forced a wallcatch to enter a pipe, but due to the fact that you were already being pushed at about 75 subpixels per frame, it was very easy to perform.

Even for pit? Seems like for pit, there really isn't any limits glitch/difficulty/obnoxiousnesswise..

They're allowed, but we're deducting points for using them.

wall jumps are just an excuse for good pit hacks. good pit hacks should creatively use shells, keys, goombas, and really all sprites/blocks to make insane jumps possible. wall jumps are just an excuse because you just need to change your jump a little.
Ulti and I decided to deduct points for using walljumps, Pit or otherwise. So go ahead and use them, though they'll take away from the score you get.
