Tip: Layer 3 backgrounds and tides disappear when you hit a message box, so plan your level around that. For example, you can add a sublevel without layer 3 at the start/midpoint, and include your message there.

Hi all. I've picked up the forest castle.

I'm going to be pretty much following the recommendations for it, so I'll be working on a partially flooded overgrown swampy castle. Visually, I'd like it to look sort of Castlevania-ish but more cartoony. I'd like to include the Pirhangler enemy. Anyone have any comments/suggestions?
For the swamp castle, I'm not sure that the music inserted in the ROM would fit in a level with a Castlevania feel. (Which I'm sad about, because that was my favorite composition made for SMCP2.)

Anyway, if you want an idea for a potential gimmick, it would be interesting if the water was corrupted/polluted/dirty and hurt/killed you, but you could "purify" it for a certain amount of time somehow. It would fit with the theme of the hack.
I don't know about the music not fitting, they way I can imagine it I think the music will fit perfectly. I guess it all depends on how he pulls it off.

That's a pretty neat idea you have there, although hopefully it wont be like the green water found in ASMWCP were it took time away dramatically fast, that was a really annoyance for me and I personally despised it.
Actually, my idea was that Mario couldn't swim in the water at all, until he purified it for a limited amount of time. Kind of like one level in Brutal Mario. I'd include a video link to the level, but I can't remember which one it is.

Anyway, it was just an idea.
I updated My level a bit. I have fixed the solid for piranha blocks, and changed the palette in the secret area. Posting it here since my level thread is already closed.
So...is there a general subplot or anything for World 2? I'm asking because the castle I've been working on could get sort of high-concept -- I'd like to introduce the premise that the forest's water supply (coming out of the Dryad's castle) is poisoned, but I'm not sure if that fits into the current scope of the bigger story or World 2 more specifically. I think kept simple it works well enough for the castle itself, but I think it could work for the "problems" facing World 2 that Mario has to fix. What do you guys say?
Although this is fairly out of nowhere, but it would be really great if Tutankoopa makes an Easter Egg appearance in one (coughDiddyandJDC'scough) of the desert levels.
I don't think that would be a good idea, seeing how he's an official Mario character and all.

He is? O.o

I thought he was just a boss thought up for SMWCP.
You really need to play Paper Mario then, it's a really amazing game.
