Game Boy Camera refuses to start up on any emulator

So, I downloaded a Game Boy Camera ROM to get a screenshot. Shouldn't be too hard, right? Well, on all/both of the emulators I tried, it complains about the cartridge type with a message of "unknown cartridge type fc" or something to that effect. It's bugging the crap out of me.

By the way, I tried it on three versions of VisualBoyAdvance and BGB 1.2.
... why do you need the camera for a screenshot?
Press the "prnt"/"prnt scrn" button on your keyboard (top right corner) and paste it into paint and bam, you have a screenshot.
No, I meant an in-game screenshot. Sorry if I worded it wrong.
File > Screen Capture

Choose path and save. There you have your in-game screenshot. Is that what you've been looking for? I don't know what your intentions are. If you want to have a simple actual screenshot for editing/uploading purposes, use the above method.

If it's for use with another game (sorry, but I never knew a Gameboy camera existed), then I don't know.

No, the ROM just won't start up at all.
He means a screenshot of the Gameboy Camera rom.
I think he means the actual Game Boy Camera.
The obvious follow-up question is what it would take a photo of.
Oh.
Did you try just getting another ROM?
Maybe the one you try to use simply is corrupt.

I tried two ROMs, and neither of them worked.
I actually tried to play this ROM a couple months ago, the thing is, the ROM uses a special header that emulators are incompatible with (Probably forever, since no one is going to care enough), however, there is no reason to play the ROM because there is no way to emulate the Gameboy Camera Camera, which means you can't do anything. Just buy the actual game from ebay and use it on the Super Gameboy or Gameboy Player for GCN, then use a capture card to take screenshots or videos.

The GBC is an unconventional cartridge, it uses external hardware to run on the gameboy. The emulators only use the native hardware suited for the gameboy itself, since most cartridges only use the CPU and RAM on the gameboy.

The ROMS you have aren't corrupt, they work fine. The problem is the way the emulator is set out.
So I've heard that KiGB works with the GB Camera ROMs, although the actual camera doesn't work. :(

Well, looks like this is solved(?), so lock this.

  • Do not bump threads. It is against the rules to post in non-stickied threads whose last post is older than one month, unless you are making a significant contribution
  • Although suggesting an emulator that works with the ROM is a good contribution, the original author is inactive, rendering it useless for them. However, I will say that it can be useful in case others were curious in how to run the ROM... Thus, bumping this thread is questionable at best, but it's just better to leave it as is
  • Do not backseat-moderate. It is not necessary to tell moderators whether or not threads should be locked
  • Threads aren't locked when the solution is found, in case the original poster has a new question or somebody has something new to contribute
