Me again :)

So I'm learning SDL for C++, and have made a very simple Snake/Nibbles game. I was wondering what I should do next to learn more about C++ game dev and SDL in particular.
I can already do the game base from scratch by myself...but I just need ideas. Preferrably something that will teach me more about file I/O.

Work on a simple platformer. It would require:

*Smooth rendering
*Elegant controls
*Collision detection
*A way to load levels
*Viewbox scrolling
*Simple AI intellegence
That's what I was thinking, but at first dismissed it as too complicated because I had no idea how to go about loading levels wif ifstream. That's the only part that will really give me trouble :I
