I've been trying to fix a problem with my mom's computer. I thought it was probably a virus, and tried to use a flash drive to just copy and paste the anti-virus I use for my laptop (Threatfire, works great and it's free!) onto her desktop and run it. Needless to say, it didn't work, and I'm re-downloading the installer now.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to delete the folder I left on her desktop. It won't delete the .dll files that came with it. My parents are going to be more concerned about the useless folder on their desktop than getting rid of the virus, oddly enough, so is there any way I can get rid of it?

Sometimes, for a reason unknown to me, folders or files will just not delete - Windows will tell me it is in use, even if it isn't. A reboot always fixes it for me.

What error message does it throw? Maybe you should use a Ubuntu LiveCD to get access.

Try going into task manager and disabling the processes related to the antivirus, then deleting the files.
Also, if you want to be sneaky/lazy, you could just right click >properties the folder and select "hide."

Heh, yeah. I guess hiding it is the best option for me right now. My parents aren't computer-savvy enough to notice. Honestly, it took several weeks to explain to them the difference between "Downloading" a file, and just loading a site.
Like the saying goes, "What you don't know can't hurt you." Although, would a program like CCleaner work on it. I think it's a DLL, and that's why Windows doesn't want to delete it, but I'm fairly certain that there's some kind of program to force it gone.
I had the same problem before when I tried to put a working version of Audiosurf on a flashdrive to use on the college computers. Not only did it not work, but I had to hide the folder with the un-delete-able files in it just so I didn't have to look at it all the time... Man, I'm so happy I have a laptop of my own now rather than trying to micro-manage games and stuff on a flashdrive anymore.
(PS. Kind of off topic, but if somebody could indulge me. I haven't written on here for quite a while. Is the "Disable Ninja Protection" a joke? I'm gonna click it and see what happens.)
Edit: Huh. Nothing. Oh well... Hey, it's gone. Weird. Guess it's just a joke thing again.

The Disable ninja protection box disables a message which tells you if someone has posted before you, so you don't repeat what they are saying. Disabling it, doesn't display the message, which, if unlucky, could result in someone posting straight before or after you. Obviously, is may not have an effect and both messages could be completely unrelated.

(glares) I meant just opening a site on a browser.

There's really still no difference. When you load a website, your browser downloads all of the HTML, image, etc. files into your temporary internet folder, so when you go back to the page it can just load from parts of those files, instead of downloading the files from the server again. It deletes the temporary files once a set limit is reached, or, if you're using a "private" browser window (such as Chrome's Icognito window), it deletes the files once you close the browser.

Huh, I honestly didn't know that. I stand corrected. Guess you do learn something new every day.

If it's saying the files are in use, try using this.
