Windows XP: Problem with original USB and PS/2 Slots

No less than three hours ago (by the time somebody reads this message), my computer's original two USB slots and the PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse slots cease to work. Now... my computer is old, and a few people here may know how old my PC is (it's nine years old for those who don't); operating since 2002.

When this computer was first received (it's also a custom-built model), it came with the standard PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse slots, as well as two USB slots under the PS/2 slots. For as long as this computer has been in operation and gone through a boat-load of miscellaneous BS in the past nine years of service, all of a sudden the original slots no longer work.

Now, the problem with this is without those slots working... the next time I boot the computer up when I wake up in the morning and stuff, unless a keyboard is detected during the boot-up, it will not work.

This computer has four additional USB slots, but they're on a separate hardware install so if the USB keyboard is inserted in those slots, the computer won't recognize it; I know because I once did that when I bought myself a new keyboard to replace my old PS/2 keyboard, and it told me it did not detect it.

... Unless I can get help, I have no damn clue what to do, and will now keep this computer on Sleep Mode or just leave it on 24/7 until... whatever happens first. Hell, I went to other places to see what I can do, but I'm afraid turning it off and then attempting to turn it back on will result in the original slots still not working, and I got a PC that I can no longer operate on.

Can somebody help, please?
do you know your motherboard type?
You might need to reinstall drivers.
I have no damn clue what type of motherboard this thing uses... nor do I know of a program that can be done over the interwebs to make a quick diagnosis of the computer's hardware such as HD, drives, and even motherboard type and name.

I'm still surprised it's lasted this long... x.x
Try going into device manager from the control panel and checking the main/motherboard.
If you have problem with drivers, search for an program named Hwinfo32, download. Open the app and look at Motherboard Model, then copy and paste the mother board name into Google and then download the driver from the manufacturer site.
