Actually... heh, heh... I don't know how to avoid spoilers myself. But I thought to open a thread on it. We can discuss how some spoilers can be "Awww, ruined!" and some we can be okay with. The Internet is indeed useful to all of us, but apparently once something big/epic comes along, it isn't long before spoilers are showing up everywhere, as in images and discussion boards. So, who wants to discuss tips on how they can be avoided?
Don't know whether to put this in Talk or Reality Corner...

When you're in the Gaming subforum, don't enter threads of games you haven't played a decent way into.

Avoid the IRC. Frankly, most people don't care about revealing spoilers, no amount of polite asking will get you anywhere. After all, it was your choice to enter the chat in the first place.
Additionally, don't be afraid of TVTropes. Although there are spoilers galore, they mark them well.

Just do careful reading, spoilers are everywhere, if anything looks like it may contain a spoiler to something you are reading/watching or want to read/watch, avoid it.
Overall, it might be best to avoid threads about the thing you are interested in.
Also Snape kills Dumbledore.

Don't look up youtube videos (soundtrack, cutscenes, etc) of a game you haven't played/finished yet. Comments and related videos always have spoilers. Always.
Assdammit got the final "villain" of Ace Attorney Investigation 2 spoiled already and it isn't even localized.

Not funny. I was spoiled the end of P&SwG for "joke this is a spoiler" like that and I was not amused.

You literally refused to watch it when it was still airing and even months after that, so you kind of deserved that :|

Except it didn't happen at SMWC, it was at a separate site that didn't have such a popularity boom regarding the show. Who are you to say that I "deserve" anything?

You most certainly implied it. It sounded like you were saying that somebody spoiled it to me because of my behaviour here in wanting to wait before watching it.

Generally avoid threads that it might be mentioned it, and if you have to post in it for one reason or another, scroll down to the bottom of the page and don't read anything.
Also, avoid threads like this.

What? Are idiotic users gonna take advantage of this thread or something? I didn't instigate the whole "Snape kills Dumbledore" thing and that's not really much of a spoiler anymore. Neither is "Luke, I am your father."

MARIO KILLS BOWSER, BUT BOWSER KEEPS COMING BACK TO LIFE! (If you did not know this by now, then... you deserved it?)
But, to be serious, there aren't ways to avoid it. Just as there may be creative ways to avoid spoilers, people will always find ways around those to spoil something. I hope that made sense.

When a new game, book, TV show, or whatever comes out, don't discuss it with your friends until you and they have finished reading/watching/playing. Even when someone says, "Don't tell me what happens in Part IV because I'm only on Part II!", something from Part IV will inevitably come up in conversationl
It's what I did with all of the Harry Potter books, and it worked.

For me, it depends on what the spoiler is about. I don't care if it's about a new download coming out for a new game. I don't care is someone tells me who's going to be in the game. I hate the type of spoilers that tell you how a whole level is played (unless your looking for a walk-through).

Not much fun if you can't avoid spoilers, though...

I don't get the huge crisis with spoilers! An example earlier is the ever-popular "Snape kills Dumbledore." I don't care about stuff like that - knowing the outcome changes little in enjoying the events leading up to the conclusion. Maybe if every little detail is covered, then it's a bit more of a dilemma, but then if it's that detailed, well, you might as well be reading the actual thing.
Also, the best way to be completely sure to avoid any spoilage of something is to close off all human contact and shut yourself in a small space until you can experience whatever it is you don't want getting spoiled. That might be a little extremist though, so a better option is just to cut yourself off from news sources related to whatever it is you don't want spoiled! That's still a bit silly though, so I'd just stick to my method of not giving 2/3 of a toadstool about spoilers.
Of course, since this whole topic is probably the spawn of something that has/will happen on that one Disney TV show, I think it's even sillier, but that's just my own opinion!

It's one thing when some random internet person spoils something, but I absolutely despise it when the creator/whoever's in control spoils something beforehand, especially in an attempt to get more ratings/popularity. (example: the previously mentioned Disney show)
Also, ironically, this thread needs a spoiler alert. :p
