Except that playing "just music" obviously -isn't working- and I'm tired of the folks who throw a complaint if the radio doesn't have music on 24/7 when those same people never actually listen to the radio anyway.
(Same goes for all the folks who mope about too much VGM, yet only request VGM when I actually ask for requests.)
The point of the talk programs, ads and whatnot would be to give the radio a greater sense of identity and, hopefully, better connection with the SMWC community itself. Non-stop music doesn't do that - it's just someone's mp3 playlist, in the end.
Also, jumping on the pro-FUGGNUTZ bandwagon because I don't feel encouraged by my own lack of ability to get the show proposals requested here done. If FUGGNUTZ can get even one of them going on a regularly-scheduled basis, that'd be great.

I would love to do a radio show. I'm going to be away for a week, but after that, I'm pretty much free almost any time. I think with the current system, though, the show would have to be prerecorded. That means that there can't be 'guest callers' or whatnot. I could, however, have people call in at the time of the recording to advertize their hack/project/whatever.
Possible things that people could do for a radio show:
-Highlighting notable hacks
-Advertizing current/upcoming events
-User interviews
-Post of the day/week/month/whatever (post could be substituted for things like layout, hack, sprite, or whatever)
-Other stuff I can't think of right now

I wouldn't mind doing a gaming news show, or a hacking review show (or both!), to go along with a VGM DJing gig.

Therefore we should make ads appealing. Take my contest idea, having people vote for their favourite ad on a weekly bases might make the adverts one of the highlights of the radio.
Also what's the risk in experimenting with stuff other than music when the music at the moment is clearly not generating visitors.

Which reminds me that I should totally drop by soon and request some bad fanfic again. Good times!
Aside from that, seems like things are leaning towards FUGG getting the position, which I don't oppose either. Now, if only we could find a way to trick him into DJing more often.

If I got some DJ time, I'd want to finish some discographies first so my time won't be as repetitive. Maybe get some more Megadeth?

The only reason I said to pay was to raise funds for the site. That's all. But I don't know how well it would go.
I was thinking today about having interview shows as well. By interviewing popular members, (Ultimaximus, Smallhacker, SNN, HuFlungDu etc), for only about fifteen minutes, some people may find it interesting to find out about them in their real life, other than internet life. A suggestion, probably not a good one though.

@ TOS) I'm actually fond of that suggestion, yet I don't know how you'd be able to communicate with them and record it. There are a few ways, perhaps, but it sounds like it'd be difficult to do.
I'd like to know, are the DJs getting repicked when Radio Director is chosen? I already have a DJ or two in mind if I got hired (I'm looking at you, FUGG, nice DJing)

I suppose, it would have to be pre-recorded and then aired later. But there is Windows Live Messenger, and I think you can do voice calls, or Skype.
So it would work.

Yeah I guess it would. I don't use either, so I ask, do they have built-in voice recording? Or would you need extra software?

i dont have time to be a director but i really like the idea of a schedule, with different djs, talk show/interviews. kiddo and i were supposed to get something like that going but it never happened..yet!
also. i'm still waiting to dj :>
edit: also djs should make mixes with effort. kiddo does a great job with the vgm. say user A makes a mix, it should have a 'style'. not just their favorites but music that 'blends well'. when kiddo is not djing it's usually just a chopped up mess. where's the mix? this could also be good for other users looking to get into other genres and or fans.
schedule:
monday- classic rock, talk about a current hack, jazz
tuesday- electronic, interview with user A, metal
wednesday- etc
people could say. 'oh hey i love classic rock, let me listen to this.' or 'ive never heard metal, maybe i could try it out'.
right now it's:
monday- random stuff
tuesday- random stuff
wednesday- etc

On the other hand I'm still waiting to see who Kieran will pick, considering the thread was put up almost a week ago and not many people have shown interest.

I like your mixing idea. We'd need DJs willing to do multiple genres, but they shouldn't be hard to find.
So, even though most of our listeners are smart, and could tell a genre apart from another genre, perhaps we should have some sort of "intermission" saying what genre is coming up next. Just to give a fair warning.
I'm also waiting to see who Kieran picks, as I'm still interested.

I am quite interested in running this job. I realize that at this point, I'm not very well known and that you may not trust me, but I'd still like to offer myself for the job.
First of all, I can be quite responsible and can make sure to keep schedules on track and make sure back-up DJ's are always available. Organization wise, I am confident that I won't slip up. That being said, of course I am human, and I am not over confident. I might make a mistake from time to time, but I know that I can learn from those mistakes so that they are not repeated.
Second of all, I'm quite active on the site, even though I may not post much (where it matters). I can check quite often during the day (EST) and I am usually active on IRC from after 4 pm. That being said again, there might be a time when something comes up, but in that case, my previously stated organization will be sure to make up for it.
Lastly, I admit, I have faults like anyone else; I wouldn't be a great DJ because I don't have a large base of music. Fortunately, even if I wouldn't be a great DJ, I have a wide base of music I enjoy, so I wouldn't be partial to certain tastes in music, ensuring that not just one genre of music is played over and over again on the radio.
Well that was long. Sorta like a resume. But I hope this shows that I will be thorough with the direction of the radio. I hope you consider my entry for this position

Just give me a message when you're ready. Anyone who wants to hop in before the Radio Director is chosen, here's your chance to show what you're made of.

I was wondering, if there was to be an interview show, would any users be interested in being interviewed?

I'd suggest trying to get interviewees that are important to the SMWC/Caffie IRC communities in some way (presuming you can't get anyone who's a big shot in videogames IRL. lol.)
