Tip: Bad things to do in the title demo: Enter a door or a pipe, activate a P-switch or a star, complete the level, hit a message block, or die. These will either glitch the music, or force the player into an endlessly looping title level until they reset the game.

Welp, I finally made a thread for my hack.

First of all, this is my first hack ever.

It's a hack I've been working on since I was 9. Then I realized how bad it was and started to fix a bunch of stuff. It features custom GFX, music, sprites, bosses and about 30 levels. I'm still working on the forest world.

Plot:

Many years ago, Peachs' great-grandfather buried a great treasure in a cave near a bech before he died. Peach's father, Ethan (graphics pending), found out about the treasure and he started a quest to find it. But he didn't come back...

Peach was afraid that something terrible happened to him, so she begged Mario to look for him and the treasure. So Mario took of and started a new, dangerous adventure.

The story gets deeper as you move forward.

Enough said, here are the screenshots:

I've made some videos of new levels and a remake of one:

REMAKE - Whindop Hot Caves 2.0
NEW - Shy Guy's Garden
NEW - Shell'd Castle

Image 6: I think the vine should be connected to something or it looks a bit weird. Other than this, great job so far.

Extreme nitpick? It looks fine to me since he actually fixed the cutoff, and floating stuff is perfectly normal in Mario.

Anyways, your hack is really good. Can't wait to see more! :D

So floating munchers are perfectly normal and fine?

I agree that the vine should be connected to something, because it does look really weird floating, but other than that, this looks pretty good.

Not..really it actually does look kind of weird with vines floating like that.

But other then that; the screen shots look amazing. I really like how the FG and BG's go well with each other.
Thanks guys! Alright, I'll root that vine to some thing.
Will show some progress soon.
Impressive work, Maxodex! I'm more fond of this than usual because it resembles a lot of what my level design style is.

The only thing that I'd nitpick at, is that in your fourth screen, when your big, that would really easily piss people all off. Trying to jump/crawl when your big is a huge pain.
@Riot898 Thanks! Well, in the fifth screenshot, you don't have to duck and jump all the time, I put in that level the "duck-walk" generator, so there's no need to be small in that level.

Just a short question.. how large, in terms of number of levels, world's etc, is this gonna be? Will it be somewhat similar to the original game of 72 levels, 96 exits, or amongst the larger hacks of say 110 exits or more with over 100 stages or something?
There will be about 7 or 8 worlds. The amount of levels will be less that the original, with about 60 or 65 levels. So this will be almost like a complete game.
Cool. Will there be a fair amount of secret exits? Because I like the hacks where there are loads of secret exits that lead to different stages, which can either simply provide an alternate route, or maybe even provide a shortcut to and from a previous world, e.g. a stage in World 5 might have a secret exit leading to a stage in World 2 or something.
It's not decided yet, but I'm sure I'll make a lot of secret paths for the player to discover.
Progress! I finished a level called "Chilly Path" for my ice world.
Screens:

The start of the level. I used Ladida's falling leaves sprite to make the snow.

The snow acts like the quicksand block. This way you can climb it up.

Oh noes!

Near the end.

I made a video for it, too:
Watch the vid :D

On a side note, I finished my forest submap:

Also, it's finally rooted to something :D

That's all for now.

Chilly path looks awesome, i like the level design and all the details and custom thingies that you put, i'm following this hack :D, keep up the good work.
Really good level design. I like the way you climb up through the snow. The falling snow is a very nice touch.

The forest submap looks fantastic too. I can't see any errors anywhere.
I waited for a thread of this hack. I think the overworld looks really cool in this hack, and it deserves at least 9/10. The level design in the demo definitely was fun, but the red switch blocks were solid before I even found the red switch. Some things in this hack are still decent, but with more custom music and custom palettes (please! =D) it will be a great cake. :)
Thanks guys!

That's the old version of the hack. In this version no level has an original SMW song except for caves, castles (I can't find any) and bonus rooms. And every level (except for the first one) has a custom palette. So don't worry :D
Also, about the red switch, I don't know what could happen, it worked perfectly fine when I submitted it...

A pretty good castle song for me is SMB Metal. I also think Madness Fortress is a good choice.
I always found SMB Metal to be more of a kick-ass, adrenaline packed final boss theme than a castle theme, but I guess it could work for both. Also, the two custom songs Battalion Bossanova and Bowser's Mountain are great castle themes, and "Mystery Deeps" is an amazing cave theme.
Okay, I'll maybe try those songs, thanks. :)
Alright! I finished another level for the icy world, and now that world is finally complete! (Thanks to this thread I'm working faster) The level's called 'Icy Wet Meadows', and it uses a rope and grassland tileset mix.

Screenshots:

The start of the level.

This guy again...

Slide :D

Ah crap.

Near the end.

Also...
I like making videos of my levels, you know

------------
Done for today.
