Tip: When making your overworld, mix the terrain up! Angled land and multiple colors looks much more interesting than square land and plain colors.

I like the overworlds that were posted. As for reghrhre, I like the graphics. They look nice and simple. I approve.

Anyways, here's the first part of a level I'm working on. The gimmick here is that the fortress is located by a lake, and the upkeep hasn't exactly been stellar over the last decade. As a result, water from the nearby lake has started to seep into the fortress.

akacesfan: That's a very nice level palette. The level itself looks really easy though.

Aesthetically speaking, it's very nice looking. There's a great variation of colors in that level.

Nothing wrong with how it looks... actually, why is there vegetation on that metal bridge structure?

Man, that looks just ten degrees of awesome. You should definitely place well in the contest.
@akaces: Looks very interesting. I really do like Vanilla Castles, as the graphics in the original game were really good.

@Reghrhre: Very, very interesting! Looks awesome, and the level design looks good as well! Well done! :D

Since everyone else is doing it, I suppose.
That looks sick Lynnes! I love the binary world! :P

Although I do think those black grave stones look kinda weird. What are they, exactly?

- BlackMageMario
That overworld is sweet! Nice job!
@Lynnes: Yes, I like that OW a lot, especially the pallete. The different castles also add a lot of variety. However, I don't like that SMB3 tank up there, it just throws off the custom look you got going there. Still, my opinion; don't remove if you don't want to/if you think it fits because when it comes to your stuff, it's your opinion that matters the most.

I guess I'll show off what I worked on yesterday. Submaps, AKA this, isn't exactly my best work though...

Lain: I think you should make the dark color a bit darker, and the spots a bit lighter. Ideally, the spots in the ground should be lighter than the ground around them.

The vegetation is only for decoration. : P

I know it's not logical, and I know it's a bad excuse. But it's a Mario game so I don't care if it's not logical to have trees on the bridge. (O'course not saying I'd put whatever I want or really non fitting stuff in places it shouldn't be in)
Wow, guys. I have to say I'm really impressed with these OW designs. This is some quality work.
wow these are some pretty amazing overworlds. great job to all of y'all.

anyway I got around to ripping two things which are totally alike and would work together marvelously. the first is a full rip of the seiken densetsu dragon's cave background (the one used in brutal mario was only the bottom, and at that it seemed to be only half of that, and then mirrored (which is understandable because this bg uses three graphics file, and at the time lunar magic didn't have the bg2 and bg3, right?

I don't know if they've been ripped before, but I haven't seen them, so hey.

also I decided that world 5 of the lost vikernes vikings had a pretty nifty foreground, which would work wonders as, say, a bonus area or even like a whole world with this general theme.

it has a few edited tiles, such as the slope-spikes (which were in the original games, they just actually had a bit of cut-off), and the 32x32 yellow and blue block is just a simple expansion of the original 16x16 block (along with a few little color edits- who cares. Also, those trampolines would only work with a custom block that would, well, act as it should. and those laser-like blue beams would be I guess frame-hurt blocks, or even on-off hurt blocks. whatever would work for a good situation. thoughts and the such?

You should give a reasonable background to the vikingal screenshots: they are confusing.

Wow... that is amazing man, friggin' awesome job!
Here's part of another level in my untitled hack. The object of this one is to collect all five Dragon coins. When you do that, you'll be allowed to pass through a custom block (the green star block, except it's silver) to get to the end of the level. For now there are only 4 Dragon Coins. Also, you can get to the closed-off areas thanks to some nifty Map16 work.

Linked because the image is HUGE

(BG may be a little messed up because I edited two screens together.)

Treasure Cave. Oh, and that's the story for the level:

Guess I'll show my overworld contest entry as well.

THIS OW WAS NOT FOR THE OW CONTEST
Unlike the rest of the OWs that are above!

So, I have the task of making the entire OW for the JDCGames Collab II. I have started it, and I have done World 1.

Please ignore the mess around the beachy and grassy area.

So, what do we all think so far?
@Goldenroy: Really great job! Looks very nice! Keep it up! :D

@TOS: Looking very, very nice! I actually like how messy the beach is! :P

- BlackMageMario
@Jimmy:
How did you make the transparent clouds/lightbeams and stuff?Layer 3?HDMA?
@BMM > Thanks, I'll get around to the rest of the OW at some point.

I am also aware that none of my OW is a as good as the above ones #w{=P}
