@Anti-guy Your levels look really good...well...minus the cutoff with the ?-block in Grassy Valley

@Lynnes Mind posting a video or animated GIF? Its impossible to tell how it animates if we only see one frame of its animation.

@Sokobansolver Yeah, sorry, but those screenshots look a bit boring. Maybe some more coins or a more detailed BG could help.
I have been working on my hack in lm 1.82. Just now, I decided to see how lunar magic 1.51 views the hack (1.51 only allows 4 fg/bg files as opposed to 6)

This is my entry for Vanilla: someone said level design wasn't that great, but i personally played it and everything works (no unfairness, i mean). Probably because it is not hard enough, since here we are used to play hard levels.

Whule it looks great, soem might consider this not vanilla at all. That's the weird thing. No ExGFX allowed right? So how did you get some of those tiles? I see soem of those gnarly tiles are cleverly used for lights, but the mod accepts it not me(which he did).
Speaking of entries, mine follows the rules(99.9% of entries follow them).

Don't worry that i didn't use ExGFX at all. I got some tiles from GFX15, GFX17, GFX09 and GFX(the one with carrots and ropes).
Maybe that's true, but being the fact that the intro screen does seem to have custom GFX, is that even allowed?

Yes that's allowed, because it is not inherent to the level itself.

Also, update: Losoall lead me to check the water part of the level and i stupidly modifed it making it unbeatable. Now it's fixed.
@ Dinomar: I've played your level...and it was damn good. Really, are the people complaining about your level design? It was perfectly balanced imo. The visuals on the other hand gave me a very special feeling actually, the same feeling I had while I played Super Mario Odyssey back in the days. I actually wanna thank you for making this level, it brought back some good memories and was fun to play all the way trough. I don't know if you'll win that competition since I haven't played all the others entries, but I have no doubt you'll score high.

Also, last year I and GN made a visual hack, a more difficult one than yours (abit unfair tbh), and we got alot of critic for our level design and that it seemed like we used ExGFX, people didn't get "dat vanilla feel" altough its a level design contest. So to me it seems like people get alot more picky if you got good visuals in these competitions.


after several days of emails, noon agreed to stop progress on A Macro Micro Hack in the summer to team up with me and create some magic once again. yes, a full out sequel to Insert Coin. can we capture lightning in a bottle once again? only time will tell. we settled on a name today, and i made a folder and put a rom in it. lol progress.

Dinomar, I don't know how to feel about your stage. For a second I thought "That's lame!" than I saw it again, and was like "That's okay actually". I have mixed feelings about how it looks.

It took me about 2 hours to find a use for these tiles.
I already had an idea about using that tileset for a city/factory.
You did it better, because you know how to make slopes.

Also the level overall looks cool.

Nice job Dinomar, the level looks interesting. But I think it would be a bit better if you actually drew up some slopes to use for that Tileset instead something like stairs. Compared to everything else, those (stairs) slopes look tossed together, but it's just a suggestion.
But otherwise, everything looks well polished, cleverly designed, and overall, nice.

BTW, in the third screenshot, is that cut-off below Mario, because it looks alot like the Background.

If you didn't realize, this is a Vanilla Contest entry, and therefore he can't "draw up" slopes :P

Dinomar, those graphics are really awesome for using soley Vanilla graphics, and I really admire your creativity there. Awesome work ^-^.
Crap, didn't read it, was too entranced by the pictures. I swear, it looked so much like not vanilla I couldn't tell.

Forget what I said, EXCELLENT work if that is vanilla, becuase it fooled me. :P

I'm guessing the pink goal is the secret exit. I think I remember a hack doing something like this.

BTW New Super Mario Bros DS was my inspiration for this. Think back to the bosses of world 2 and world 5.
