How to use Addmusic 4.05

A lot of people seem to be having problems with Addmusic 4.05. If you're one of those people or are fairly new, I want to help and make sure that there are as little problems as possible when it comes to inserting custom music.

In the music section, all ports except ones labelled with [ M ] are Addmusic 4.05 compatible.

----------------------------------------------------

- First things first, you'll want Addmusic 4.05 (HuFlungDu's).

- You'll want to extract the folder to any destination of your choosing.

- Find cmd.exe on your computer and copy it into your addmusic folder.
C:\Windows\System32

- Put level music in the LEVEL folder and overworld music into the OW folder.

- Open AddMusic.ini and list your songs in the correlating set. [OW]/[LEVEL] and save that file.

- Expand your ROM. (preferably to 2MB)

- Open cmd.exe and type in
addmusic.exe (name of your ROM).smc -se
and hit enter. This will patch MORE.bin

- In cmd.exe again, type in
addmusic.exe (name of your ROM).smc
and hit enter. This will go through the insertion process listing your songs from AddMusic.ini.

- Open your ROM in Lunar Magic and change your song which should be listed.

If your port requires a sample bank, download Sample Tool, hit File>Open, open your ROM, import from file to select your sample bank, choose which level you need to use it on and select the bank number then hit File>Save.

----------------------------------------------------

And there you have it.

For now, I hope this helps. If there are any other questions, feel free to ask or check the readit.txt in HuFlungDu's addmusic folder.

If you need a tutorial on music porting. You can check this one out.

Torchkas edit: Like I said, this question is being asked too much. Importance changed to important.
perfect.

i made a .txt with your tutorial and your name for my resources pack. if it's not okay send me a pm and i'll remove it.
this was a great tutorial. but it didnt work.
i had the same results as before, my game crashed at "mario start"
i did everything step by step.

i think the problem is my choice of music. but you said it has to not have an M... were is this M?

okay.

i place cmd and a smw rom saved in unar magic at least once in the addmusic405 folder. then i drop the music txt in the level folder and open the addmusic.txt and type the name of the music in number 20 in the levels section.
i then open cmd and type "addmusic.exe smw.smc -se"
then i close and re-open cmd and type
"addmusic.exe smw.smc"
then i close cmd and done.

then it doesnt seem to work.

no no i dont need to check it. i'v only been testing addmusic and in my lunar magic folder i keep an unzipped smw rom witch works perfectly.

Did you edit the .ini file?
I think a post layout goes here somewhere...
yes. just like you said in this tutorial, i did that before using cmd.

To Slash Man: This is actually a great tutorial, but you won't need a copy of "cmd.exe". Here is the easiest and safer way.
First create a new text document. Then open it up and type in...
Code
addmusic.exe RomFilename.smc
@pause

After that save the file. Rname it to "Music Inserter.bat". And no, the filname doesn't have to be the same. The extension must be .bat.
Move the BAT file in AddMusic's folder. Put the Rom into addmusic's folder and run the file. Same thing goes for MORE.bin. Just type in...
Code
addmusic.exe RomFilename.smc -se
@pause
I honestly don't see how it's any easier than using cmd.exe. All you have to do in cmd.exe is press the Up key and enter.

well, i honestly cant get addmusic to work.
i did every step here, and nothing. :(

but i really want addmusic to just work but as i said i follow all your steps perfectly and it doesnt work.

but one question you didnt answer is:
i asked about that M. you said any music not labelled with M can be used. weres this M? i havent seen it.

That [M] label means it can only be used with AddmusicM.

oh i see.
another thing:
he said here that i need to expand my rom to 2MB. but when i check 2 and expand it says its already that big and can only be expanded with a higher number, but any higher number makes lunar magic say "checksum incorrect" (but still loads the rom fine)
i dont really know what thats about.
