Chunsoft recently showed a trailer for a new game. This isn't exactly confirmed to be a "sequel" to Nine Hours Nine Persons Nine Doors (999), but just from watching the trailer it's impossible to not see connections to the game. It's being released for the 3DS and PSVita. (spoilers: good people die)
Trailer with english annotations
I played 999 about half a year ago, and while it wasn't really my favorite game of the genre, it was still very enjoyable. For those not familiar with 999, the most I can really say about it without spoiling anything is that you're trapped on a ship with 8 other people and have to solve puzzles to get off. You have nine hours to look for a door with a "9" on it before the ship explodes. It's dialogue heavy and has multiple endings based on decisions you make in the game. You can always try out the 999 Demo on the official site to get an idea of how the game plays.
After playing through most of the endings in 999 (all of the important ones) I didn't really think there would be a sequel to it, so I'm kind of curious how the plot in this new game is going to work out. Right now, they haven't said anything about localization, so there is a chance that there might not even be an English version. I'm not really aware of what the sales of 999 were like, but if they were good I could definitely see them localizing the game with no problems.
Oh man.

Oh my god
I loved 999, so I'm definately getting this game for the 3DS. The trailer gave me an extreme "999 Opening Video" vibe, but I guess that's what they were going for.
I hope it will have story and music as great as 999 had.
Speaking of the sales, while I have no idea, I heard that game stores had to specifically request this game to stock, so I don't know. On an interview with the creator, he said that if 999 had enough popularity he'd make a sequel, so at least we know it had a good time in Japan!

Well here's some good news to anyone that was looking forward to this: It was just recently confirmed by Nintendo Power that this game will be released in North America by the end of the year.
Consider me hyped! Glad to see this game being localized despite the fact that it's not a big-name game.
EDIT: It'd probably be worth mentioning that this is only a confirmation of an NA release for the 3DS, since it was mentioned in Nintendo Power. Though I think it's safe to assume that if it's localized for the 3DS it'll be brought over for the Vita as well.

And here's a promo anime I just found for the game. It was fan-subbed in English. Shows off the beginning of the story and characters, as well as the general premise.
It seems like it'll be different enough from 999 with the new system they're using (same color watches, cooperate/betry prisoner's dilemma thing, etc). Can't really tell how well that will translate into the actual game but it seems alright so far.

I have no clue how I missed this post. Now I really, really need to get a 3DS. The whole rabbit thing confuses me though.
