okay, if i was to disguise a ROM of super mario bros as a super mario world rom with the .SMC at the end, will it open in lunar magic?
No. Lunar Magic can only open U.S., EU, or JP SMW ROMs and SMAS+SMW ROMs. No other game, regardless of what it's called, will work in LM.
However, this thread has a list of ROM hacking utilities for other games, including Super Mario Bros.

LM opens EU SMW ROM's? I thought it can't open the Europe version. Japanese can be also opened but you have some limitations like unability to edit messages.
"This ROM is from the wrong country... Only the US and Japanese versions of this ROM are supported."
What's different in the EU version aside from the 96 exits thing and the (unconfirmed) fact that castle destruction sequence 7 doesn't have Mario throw the castle?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regional_lockout

There's your answer. The PAL versions of SNES games had region lock, whereas US and JP both have NTSC video, and thus no lockout (just a different type of cartridge for no reason).

Just a question, how on earth can the castle sequence be unconfirmed?
I don't clearly remember what happened, I vaguely remember beating the castle once long ago and seeing sequence 1's animation. It might be exclusive to the AUS version, or to the specific cartridge I had.
