Tip: Test your levels as all forms of Mario (small, super, fire, cape). If it's possible to enter a level with Yoshi, make sure to test that as well.

Have there ever been times when there was a game or mechanic that a lot of people seem to dislike that you actually like, or one that most people like that you don't? Maybe you actually like auto-scroll levels or enjoyed Big Rigs Over the Road Racing, or perhaps you thought the music in the Donkey Kong Country series sucked. Stuff like that.

I can think of some. For one, I actually kind of like disappearing block puzzles, at least when they give you time to react and aren't in conjunction with things trying to knock or pull you off them. (Believe it or not, Plug Man's stage in Mega Man 9 was probably my favorite, although the boss was admittedly a pain.) Jet-bike stages can go either way...I liked Jet Stingray's stage in X4, but Squid Adler's in X5 was annoying. Also, Mega Man 8 and X6 were some of my favorite games in their respective series, if not my favorites. Conversely, I didn't care much for Mega Man 3, despite it being one of the more popular ones. Also, Donkey Kong Country 3 was my favorite, followed by 2 and then 1.
Megaman 6 was my favorite, but besides that....

I know many people that truly hated the Sonic games from Adventure to Shadow, but i actually admit that a collection of these games are some of my most favorite games, i loved Heroes, i loved Adventure 2 battle, and Shadow the Hedgehog was my most favorite out of them. I've never played them beyond Shadow the Hedgehog though, so i was luckey not to play Sonic 06.

...and i can't believe that not many people know about Conker's Bad Fur Day, it's just about one of the greatest games I've ever played, everyone i know has either played it and loved it, or never played it to begin with.
I like Other M.
I dislike OOT and SMB3
Oh boy, time for my list...

I love Chameleon Twist and Chameleon Twist 2 (not well known, and many people disliked the camera issue in the FIRST ONE, which stopped them from getting a second).

I like Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.

I hate Megaman.

I hate Touhou.

I hate Cave Story.

I love autoscroll levels. They give you a feeling of urgency.

I dislike Brutal Mario, especially the custom bosses. At least make the boss fit into the Mario world.

Yeah, the things that I dislike could go on forever. :P
I hate every traditional Sonic game. Haven't bothered with the fancy newer ones that most people tend to dislike though.

I hate the 2D Metroids.

I like Zelda: Twilight Princess more than Okami.

I like water levels in platformers (2D and 3D).

All I can think of.

Was into classic 2D games with Sonic and Mario an all that.

When it came to 3D, I can't help but say Sonic did better...
Mario 64 and foward on that trend kinda bored me with the repetive gameplay..

Super mario galaxy however changed that!
I don't think that Twilight Princess is disliked by many people actually, and I'm pretty sure tons of people hate Brutal Mario.

As for myself, I never liked the DKC music (or the graphics, or the level design..) and never played Megaman (though I don't dislike it or anything, it's just that what I've seen of it and how people talk about it (dur this weakness that dur you need to completely know every single stage by heart in order not to die herrp) never really drove me to play it).
I don't like SMB1 or 3 (Especially 3, ESPECIALLY 3'S MUSIC), but I like 2. (not the Lost Levels one, the weird one)

I like(d) Sunshine.

I love the Gamecube.

I don't really like the N64. (Especially the controller)

I don't like the NES.

I actually prefer bosses that take a while to defeat over bosses that you can hit three or so times in a small amount of time.

Geez, where to begin...

Who decided that 3-D was a good thing to needlessly staple to every game genre in the N64 era and beyond? It sucked. It STILL sucks, even if it's generally handled better now.

Ocarina of Time was a lackluster Zelda title. Why people continue to hail it as the crowning achievement of the series eludes me to this day.

Final Fantasy 7. It didn't do a single thing better than any Final Fantasy title previous, yet it's still considered the series' finest by many people for reasons that escape me. While it's not a bad game, I find it to be an extremely average one. The way Square needlessly continues to pay homage to it in Kingdom Hearts and all the spin-offs is just salt in the wound.

First-person shooters. Need I say more?

Minecraft. Perhaps it's due to my mucking about in game design for the last twelve years (and art for the last twenty-four), but I really don't understand the obsession with this one.

I harbor an extreme prejudice for people who can't appreciate the foundational pillars of classic game series.

I am very frustrated by individuals who put down older consoles for having "inferior" aesthetics to newer ones. The extreme irony that results from these people hating on their once-favorite gaming systems is quite a good laugh for me, though.

Wow. That's a lot of hatred from me. I'm going to have to quit before this turns into a blog.

Go back two consoles before that... It's been around since the NES

....k? I'm not annoyed if you hate a specific set of FPS games, but there's multiple reasons to despise and praise FPS games, for one, a good FPS game could open of a good sense of Teamwork, patience, and reaction time. If you are only hating FPS games because of stuff like Call of Duty, you should know that that game is just about the most horrible thing to represent the concepts of FPS/war games.

What i'm trying to say is, if you play a FPS game on your own, it can easily be a shitty thing to play, due. But a sense of the fun parts of this genre immediately comes out when you play with people you know. Or if you play with people who are willing to work together and cooperate

I think you misinterpreted my statement. Regardless of when 3-D in video games originated, it was the N64/PS1 era when the majority of all major game franchises jumped on the 3-D bandwagon.

I'd be interesting in seeing a list of those NES titles, though. PM them to me if you'd like me to check them out.

Also, I don't think it's a good idea to pick apart (or even comment on) peoples' opinions in a thread like this. I'd probably yell at at least every other post made so far and this would quickly degenerate into a flame war. I have my reasons for disliking FPS games, but the major one stems from how they're currently the "crowd favorite" and drown out other genres simply because they're a more lucrative endeavor. I don't care that they exist or that other people play them, but keep your corn out of my mashed potatoes, please.

-I like Sonic adventure 1, 2 and sonic heroes.

-I don't like Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 (Let the hate come in)

-I don't like Modern Warfare 1 (Not the 2nd one for some reason)

-I don't like the NES so much.

-I don't like OOT.

-I liked Majora's mask.

-I like Super Mario Sunshine.

That's all I thought of right now.

I don't get Minecraft. I tried the free version (because I'm not wasting 10 dollar on it) once, mucked with it for about 15 minutes, then got bored and went play to playing fun games. It baffles me that a game that essentially is a pile of Legos has gotten so much fawning. I don't know what everyone's seeing that I'm missing.

SA2/B is fairly well-liked unless you hang around the most extreme older Sonic game fans.

I "hate" Touhou.

Speaking strictly with the game, it's essentially a niche series that is neither liked nor disliked as much as you think. Also, "hate" is a too strong of a word, I believe.

Brutal Mario isn't nearly as popular as you might believe.

To be fair, I think most instances of "hate" in this thread can be replaced with "hate playing", unless Chanagaburu has a personal grudge against Touhou, of course. Anyway,

I think that the original SMB and OOT are two of the most overrated games in history. Not bad, mind you, but I feel as if they weren't revolutionary they wouldn't have been as fondly remembered (i.e. if The Lost Levels came out first, then SMB would have been forgotten despite how good it is considered now). SMB more so than OOT, though.

I also preferred the liner styled gameplay in SMG over the exploration in SM64. Call me crazy, but Mario is a platformer, and let's face it: you ended up doing a lot more jumping in SMG than in SM64 (ignoring stages like Rainbow Ride). I'm not saying I don't like SM64, though, I'm just saying that I think SMG's levels were set up in a way that was more fun to play (EDIT: That being said, I really liked how you could get any star you wanted in a stage in SM64 instead of being forced to pick one at the start like in SMG).

Minecraft Classic is really not that representative of Minecraft Beta. There's actually more to the game then "placing a bunch of Legos", especially when the first part of the Adventure Update releases Thursday or so...

Also why do people not realize that the Sonic Adventure games are probably the most well-liked 3D Sonic titles?
Jorshamo, if you're interested, you could try the PC Gamer Demo of Minecraft Beta, which is, as GS15 said, significantly different than Classic.

As for me, I actually like Command and Conquer: Renegade, despite its lackluster ratings.

Fine. I hate PLAYING Touhou? Does that make you feel better? I also hate playing Megaman and Cavestory. Also, most of SMWC I feel likes Touhou, which is the crowd I was referring to. I agree with Mineyl, that quoting other people is a bad idea in a thread like this.

More things I just UGHCJNCACKCKd (lolwut?) with...

I hate the Legend of Zelda series. I've never found a game that I liked in the series.

I prefer older shooting games. I loved Battle Tanks: Global Assault, but I hate COD.

I hate the 3DS.

I hate SMB2. It's my least favorite Mario game.

I hate the original Super Smash Bros.

(Hate can be replaced with "hate playing".)
