As the title states, I'm just curious as to what other people like music-wise, perhaps something similar to me, perhaps something completely different. But that's why I'm asking.

My favorite band would have to be Rhapsody of Fire, because they use a keyboard as well as the usual instruments making it have more of a unique sound, but also because their vocals are strong and Fabio Lione (lead vocalist) can hit some higher notes, which not many people can do. They also sometimes speak Italian in their songs (they're an Italian band, mind you) which also makes it more unique than most bands. Aside from amazing vocals and a unique sound, their songs are very original. Also, in a chain they usually tell a story of the sort, which I really haven't seen anyone else do before.
Phew... one of the hardest questions ever. :P

Well, I'm going to have to say Led Zeppelin or The Beatles. They are both amazing bands, and they both have amazing songs. Led Zeppelin has amazing riffs and a amazing guitarists, bass player, and drummer. The Beatles made amazing songs, and I love the bass lines Paul McCartney made up while he was in the band. So I'm going to say those two are tied.

Edit: One of the things I love when Led Zeppelin does is when the guitarist will play something, then the singer will copy that exact thing and sing it.

I like Queen, because Freddie Mercury's voice is amazing, their operatic-hard-glam rock style, May's solos, and they have songs like Bohemian Rhapsody, Friends will be Friends, Princes of the Universe, Prophet's song, We will rock you, Radio Ga Ga and Innuendo.

I like Pink Floyd's concept albums, the guitar solos, the keyboards, and they have songs like Comfortably Numb, Careful with that axe, Eugene; Wish you were here, Shine on your crazy diamond, Money, Echoes and Time. Their Barrett era stuff is awesome as well, space rock psychedelia.

I can't really decide.

Metallica, The Who, King Crimson, Yes, The Beatles, ELO, Rush , Led Zeppelin, Radiohead and The Velvet Underground are next.

as for favorite singers, Freddie Mercury, Roger Daltrey, Robert Plant, David Bowie and Bruce Dickinson.

Metallica because of the 1991 self-titled album.

Red because of Feed the Machine.

Disturbed because David Draiman is an inspirational singer in songs such as Remember and Ten Thousand Fists.
probably Pixies right now just because I really like their style, and clearly so did a lot of other people because they are easily one of the most influential bands in rock history.
Led Zeppelin and Linkin Park. Specially Led Zeppelin, their music, solos and riffs are just plain awesome.

Jimmy Page and John Bonham (<-- R.I.P.) FTW

Nightwish. I generally hate metal, particularly death/thrash/other heavy and/or flat out profane classes, but I love Nightwish. It gets me really excited and has some moral to its songs past "whatever you want it to be", not to mention it actually has melody to it, which is awesome as well. And then, the Beatles, of course, are amazing. They seem to have some work that differs from -everyday occurrences-, so I get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
Kimbra is my favourite female singer because she's amazing and unique and her hand movements turn me on.

... otherwise I listen to trance, electro and house though so yeah.
I dunno about "favorite" but this one is pretty good.
Drop Dead Beautiful song is my favourite by Britney spares band. all the songs are my favourite but this song is mostly favourite .

Dimebag Darrell, guitarist of Pantera. Some of the best damn guitar playing I have ever seen. Also, in a terrible turn of event, he was shot on stage in the head. At the time he was playing in a band called Damageplan with his brother(who was also a co-founder of Pantera).

Worth the listen if you have time.

List of favorite guitarists:
1. Dimebag Darrell (RIP, band: Pantera)
2. Randy Rhoads (RIP, band: Ozzy Osbourne)
3. Chuck Schuldiner (RIP, band: Death)
4. Buckethead (solo artist)
5. Dave Mustaine (Megadeth)

There are many more of course, but those are my big five. They may or may not be in order, they all have songs that I love.
Crush 40!

Johnny Gioeli has an amazing voice and Jun Senoue has mad guitar skills. Not to mention, I love their rock style in general.
As for favorite bands well let's see there's

Kyuss - Just a lot of really good guitar riffs came out of Josh Homme while he was in Kyuss.

The Melvins - Well it's some of the ugliest sounding music I've ever heard which I like.

Pink Floyd (w/ syd barrett) - Sorry if this upsets anyone but I personally find the stuff they did later on with David Gilmour (The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon) to be, well boring. I preferred things like the "Let's All Make Love in London" version of Interstellar Overdrive where it's just 30 minutes of pure noise.

The Mothers of Invention (60s lineup) - I think Frank Zappa's best line-up was the band he had in the 60s, Jimmy Carl Black, Ray Collins, Roy Estrada, Don Preston, Motorhead Sherwood, Ian Underwood, Bunk Gardener. His later line-ups just don't do the same thing for me as these guys do.

As for favorite singers well if we're just talking about lead singers and not bands then I like people with kinda ghoulish vocals like Doug Ingle from Iron Butterfly or like Glen Danzig. Ray Collins who I mentioned above would be another favorite singer. Also can't leave out Mike Patton definitely the most versatile singer in music history.
^sir I like your taste in music. Personally I like QotSA a bit more than Kyuss, but Kyuss was pretty damn awesome too. The Melvins are indeed the ugliest sounding music you will ever hear, and it is awesome.

Also right now Pavement is another one of my favourite bands just because I really like the way they blend noise and punk influence in with calmer stuff, their music just has a really cool feel to it.
Queen's my absolute favorite band. I love their style, Freddie Mercury had an incredible voice, and all of their songs are absolutely amazing.
My favorite musician of all time is Weird Al Yankovic because of his witty lyrics, and parodies of popular songs. I also love Michael Jackson and Scatman John for their catchy music.

My favorite rappers are Snoop Dogg because of his voice and style, as well as one of my favorite songs of his being, Let's Get Blown. Eminem since his raps can be amusing, and Twista since he can really rap fast.

My favorite band was probably be Guns n' Roses. Sweet Child o' Mine and Welcome to the Jungle.

And if I could pick a favorite song of all time, it would have to be:

Chacaron by El Mudo. It's crazy, but funny and catchy.
MUSE.

Why? Matthew Bellamy has incredible voice and he's one hell of a quitarist. And their songs are just plain awesome.

And now everyone, go to YouTube to listen their songs. Uprsing or Resistance or Time is Running Out or Hysteria or Knights of Cydonia or Showbiz or Sunburn or Take a Bow or Map of Problematique or Muscle Museum or Exo-Politics or... ¬.¬
Favourite bands are harder to choose than favourite albums. A band can get progressively worse or better over time, but the album stays the same. So personally, I think a better question would be "What's your favourite album and why?", but that's just me.

On topic:
Kraftwerk - First "real" electronica band (actually making beats and not noises). Catchy melodies and pretty simplistic songs.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - It's like an orchestra. With guitars. Really cool music.
Neutral Milk Hotel - Basically the greatest album of all time, Jeff (singer) can convey emotion very easily and very well.
Beirut - I just like this album in particular, it sounds really nice.
Hampton Grease Band - Long songs, rockin' guitars. Album is like 90 minutes and 7 songs, but it's worth it.

Apparently these are all the things /mu/ likes. Oh well, they have good taste in music so I'm not that disappointed.
1. Owl City
-Amazing techno songs, with great chords.
2. Crush 40
-Does most of the songs for Sonic games, and has awesome rock songs.
My Favorite Band: Linkin Park. I grew up listening to their music

My Favorite Singer: Rihanna. I love her music! Especially her songs from her past album Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded!
