~ last week, the greatest idea hit me: an anime-themed hack. Hey, a couple of people are making a MLP hack, so why not this? I'm mainly doing this for fun, and am not really trying to make it look professional (I wanna go for a VIP/Brutal Mario-ish feel in terms of randomness)
Story:
Suiseiseki cannot find her magical watering can. Thus, she sets off to find it.
Because I don't want to wear myself out, this hack will only be about 1-2 worlds. I plan to have custom stuff, though not as extensive as Bonni's Quest (as in, not much game-changing stuff besides custom graphics, sprites, blocks). I also plan to somehow compose songs for the hack myself (remixes of anime songs I guess), though I dunno how well that'll go, considering my zero-music knowledge (what the hell is a chord?)
As for progress, I don't have much besides sprite edits:
Mayhem everywhere. Points for those that can identify the sprite & what character 
This one is easier
The K-Ons.
I'm trying to go ahead and edit all the sprites (it's tough thinking of good characters D: ) so that I can just start making levels & their graphics right away. I think I'll worry about the OW last (as for custom bosses and music... eh).

Yay, I recognize a handful of characters. 
I'm not a big fan of hacks that go overboard with goofiness, but I'll be sure to give this one a try once it's done, at least. The sprite graphics are very well-drawn, and overall things look, uh... not "not promising" is all I can say considering how little other stuff there is to show.
tl;dr: Keep it up.

K-On characters, Mayoi Hachikuji, Ika Musume, Kyou Fujibayashi and Mami Tomoe. That's all I could spot. D:

Also I found a good place for anime openning midi's if you wanted a link to that? :3 (I realise you said you want to compose the songs too)

Hell yeah put some Bleach characters in there, that would be awesome =D You could make some pretty interesting bosses with the characters from Bleach.

Yeah, since I was planning on doing remixes of songs, i dunno how useful a midi of the song would be (in fact, i just planned on using notepad )
For those that want bleach characters/bosses, sorry. I have mostly every boss planned already (and I personally dont want the big 3 in here :< )

If I'm not mistaken, it's Kyou Fujibayashi from Clannad.
Also, I got the idea of weeabooifying your hack's title for the lulz: 超「です」世界 (Super Desu World). I made a small template for it as well: click! Of course, much more stylish than that though. :p
e: You could have anime characters surround the logo as well. Kinda artistic like as in Graffiti.

Considering I take Japanese class and now know what Desu means and how to pronounce it, the name is going to bother me alot. But it looks good so far, I'm looking forward to playing this when you finish.

i actually just finished the layer 3 title screen. the full hack title will be "Super Desu World: The Adventures of Suiseiseki - Episode 00" (reference is obvious). Right now I'm working on the background for the title screen (it'll have most characters on it), so i might show the concept art sometime soon
and no userbar yet >_<
