Thats not really an update at all. An update would have some relation to your progress in your hack.

WHAT? Having all the major tools dn't make your hack featured. What makes it is having a fun and enjoyable level design, using well all the elements given to you, be it vanilla or chocolate.

Calmd down people. As much as unexperienced as he is, self-control is always needed.

Anywho, zack, we do not post anywhere, especially here, that our ranks have upgraded. When people do that, they edit their last post instead creating a new one.

Usually people edit the first post for updates or the latest, thus why people may not of replied to your updates.
Reading through there isnt really much that's new other than some player GFX. Also using a bunch of tools doesnt make your hack featured. There are plenty vanilla hacks which are featured.. well were featured.

Its a hack that doesnt use any tools or other things other than whats included in LM. The term is quite vague as there are many intepretations of "vanilla". But yeah overall it means a hack that has nothing custom in it.

vanilla hacks CAN be fun, but theres not much added to SMW with these hacks. no SMB bowser sprite, no brick blocks from the main series, no forest maze music from super mario RPG, and no new ExGFX backgrounds/tiles.
i think that vanilla hacks are a little bit too simlar to SMW.
this tool combinding idea is gonna be my way of a featured hack....hopefully

Im not trying to say featured hacks dont use tools Im just saying that you being all "Use as much tools and custom stuff as I can will make me hack featured" doesnt really happen.

Adding new things that weren't in the game originally like new sprites, etc. will not make your hack automatically featured. In order to make a proper hack that has the chances of being featured, one of the things you need is a good sense of level design. Your levels look bland and unoriginal as day-old tits with the Mona Lisa painted on them. You get the idea of that stupid comparison.
Also, not to offend you, but quit trying to make yourself look like a god among men and say that this hack will be the funnest hack of all time, or something like that. Judging from your screenshots, it's going to cure my case of insomnia.
And finally, vanilla hacks can be better than hacks that have totally new things added to them. Look at Rise to The Challenge, Back to The Classics, etc. Those games were fun, and you know why? They tried to manipulate what they had in the original SMW engine with new colors, tile tweaks, and basically made a new SMW experience while feeling like the original game sometimes. I love vanilla hacks to be honest!

I'm a little offended at you calling vanilla hacks unoriginal, but I guess that's just because I'm a vanilla hacker. By the way, usually vanilla hacks have custom music because the original SMW stuff doesn't fit the creative levels we can make using it.
As for your hack, it looks... well, it's normal for a new hacker. If you were hacking for longer, then it would be sub-par at best.
You should probably experiment with vanilla stuff first before jumping all into this.
In order to get your hack featured, it needs to be well liked by the hack moderators and nominated in this thread. Not to be rude or anything, but usually a first hack isn't featured, but there may have been exceptions before. I'm not sure.

This pretty much. It's never a good idea to over hype your hack; especially if your a beginner at hacking.
You can actually do a lot with Vanilla hacks and Vanilla Hacks can be more creative or just as creative and fun as hacks with custom stuff believe it or not. I started off hacking with Custom stuff so I use to have the same opinion about Vanilla hacks as you zack30; but after playing hacks and giving Vanilla hacking a chance; my opinion changed quickly. (Very quickly)
Advice; just start off small and try improving your level design with the regular graphics in such. Take it easy on yourself.

Actually mods don't really care about graphics and custom stuff. No, that's not the point of a featured hack. Those things just make hacks a bit more fancy. I think mods would choose a vanilla hack with great level design, very well done palettes and very creative gimmicks than a decent choco hack with a lot of custom stuff.
Oh, and chocolate hacks are the opposite of a vanilla hack if you don't know.
About the hack, the design looks pretty average. Don't worry if it's your first hack. Not everyone make them very great. I think you could improve your level design. There's a great tutorial about level design in the tutorials section.

okay everyone, i think i get it, vanilla hacks are recommended as first time hacks
i'll put SM: TNA on hold.
i'll go get a clean ROM and start a vanilla hack.
besides, custom sprite insertion results in a falling SMW GFX most of the time for me.
mabye because its the sprite number i give it?
22 does just fine, but 23 and 24 FAIL!
custom blocks aslo freeze the game sometimes. resulting in reinsertions...

Sounds as if your having problems with inserting custom things.
And no, many hacks that are peoples first are not vanilla. You dont have to make your first hack vanilla.
