well, i opened a clean SMW rom in yy-chr, and went down to a random bank, (78200 for your information.) and scribbled around on it, hoping to mess it up. what actually happened, is i changed the musical instruments!

Point please.
?

You changed the instrument using Yy-chr :O

That's useful in making Custom Music, if you supply proof.
I wonder what a HFD opcode would do in ASM...
k, hold on. ima makin a video.

EDIT: here it is, it will work once finished processing...

<object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IogZbrUlEP8"> </param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IogZbrUlEP8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"> </embed> </object>

there's your proof. try it out for yourself!

I will say that whatever it changed to sounded good. :O

Now we just need to find the format, and we'll have new instruments.
Your layout has been removed.
>_>
It seems you changed the Instrument Definitions.
My blog. I could post stuff now and then

My Assembly for the SNES tutorial (it's actually finished now!)

sometimes it gets severely messed up, though.

The bank you were messing with had the instrumental data. Do I need to simplify it more?

The point is we already knew where the instrument data is.
Wow, that's cool! I would've changed a more useless and silent instrument, though...
Imagine Geno's Forest with that instrument! XD
It's not even close to Halloween, and already Christmas Sales are starting early!

ya, that's the only instrument that i know of (exept the one used in the main line of the athletic theme, that's a little to the left or the right of my circle(or maybe above it, somethin like that) also, there's SFX in that bank too, see the black area next to the black rectangle tool? that's the "power up" sound effect.

EDIT: The only problem i've had with this is if you do this on a clean ROM, it messes up the ceksum, and when you edit it, it freezes at the nintendo presents, it's fine on 1mb+ ROM.

Hey, give the guy a break. I was and interesting find, ultimately.

Since when are things we already knew "finds?"
I'm going to mess around with this to see if i get a likeable error :)
Also, that sound it changed to sounded like a really twangy harpsichord
So everyone have forgotten already that there's a working tool which will let you change instruments in SMW? Or I'm just missing something here?

Well, i forgot about that, but with this method, you dont need .WAV files and you can get some interesting stuff for custom music!

YY-CHR edits the data the same way a hex editor does, it just displays it graphically. If you can change instruments with a hex editor, why wouldn't you be able to change them with YY-CHR?
yes... the same can be acheived with an CORRUPTING PROGREM!!!
And i can provide prove for that if you want...
Sure. why not? (i never understood those corruptors...)

All i'm saying here is the instruments can be "edited" i a more manageable way.
