Recently, footage from 2004 was released of a qualified Judge and his wife beating their 16 year old daughter Hillary for downloading games and music that were unavailable for legal purchase at the time from the internet on to her computer. She has had ataxic cerebral palsy from birth that led her to a passion for technology, which was strictly forbidden by her father's backwards views. The camera was placed by assumingly Hillary in her room and captured every moment of what was assumingly the second beating judging from the dialogue in the video.
The judge's wife was emotionally abused herself and was severely manipulated into assisting the beating and should not be blamed for any content in this video. The judge's wife has since left the marriage due to the abuse, which continues to this day, and has sincerely apologized and repented for her part and for allowing such a thing, long before this video was even revealed to exist.
The video in question can be seen here however be warned that it is extremely graphic and violent.

I was JUST reading about this and thinking about posting it. I thought it was especially relevant because clearly this girl is a video game fan (she has a Star Fox poster on her wall) and also is apparently interested in retro gaming ("downloading games ... that were unavailable for legal purchase at the time").
I am not against parents *lightly* spanking their (young) children when they are out of line or doing something inappropriate/dangerous...but when I watched the video...man -- it's hard to watch, and I've seen some bad stuff online. You can just tell that the father has absolutely no regard for anyone but himself. He's monstrous. It's creepy, too -- he turns out the lights but you can still see everything, and you lose count of how many times he whips her. He even refers to what he is doing as "beating her."
I applaud her for releasing this video, if nothing else than to show just how awful child abuse can be. Can you imagine how difficult it must have been for her to come forward with this, even years later? Good for her.

What really strikes me is when he said "I haven't got my licks in yet!".
He is a monster that deserved to get is career shattered,I mean he was a judge that would preside over child abuse cases.
I wonder if the cases he did preside over would get re-evaluated.

Yeah, that part is especially awful. You think it's over. Then he comes back. You could almost forgive someone if they were in the heat of the moment and started hitting someone -- but to leave and come back. You just know this had to be happening all the time.
And even for people who are saying "this isn't so bad" -- who physically disciplines their teenagers anyway? It's something much more appropriate/understandable for younger kids who might need a quick light spank to jar them back into reality and remind them "don't run across the street" or "don't touch that; it's hot" or "stop hurting that mean thing."
EDIT: This guy is such an asshole:
Originally posted by another story"I lost my temper," [Judge William] Adams told KRIS-TV. "Her mother was there, she wasn't hurt... it was a long time ago... I really don't want to get into this right now because as you can see my life's been made very difficult over this child."
When asked if he felt he was going to face suspension or discipline from the state over the video Adams responded, "In my mind I have not done anything wrong other than discipline my child when she was caught stealing. I did lose my temper, I've apologized... it looks worse than it is."

As a judge he seems to have picked up legal gift of the gab. Read it carefully and you'll see he's trying to make it sound like the one and only beating.
I think the fact that he stated otherwise in the video and the fact that the video even exists proves otherwise though.

Ugh, I could barely watch any of that, understandably, it's just wrong. As is what seems to be going on his head, someone could do with whipping his head a few thousand times to see if his morality would find its way back into the surface. I suppose looking from every angle (generously) you could say that having a job where you judge criminals would make many crimes seem unforgivable even out of the workplace, and one that would happen because of his daughter wouldn't be of great... joy to him... evidently.
But that's just me being incredibly generous, I don't see how anything like this could simply be glanced over or quickly forgotten. Hopefully now that things have been brought to the surface justice will be done, and someone will have got that judge a brain surgeon.

He seemed to me like the kind of person who would do such acts and think nothing of it, because he felt as though he was doing good and didn't realise the wrong of the actions he was committing. You can see that over the way he shrugs off the accusations and the violent evidence of only one of his actions, and neglects to mention the other ones, glancing over them as if they were as ordinary as eating a meal.
Also the fact that in your quote, Andy, he never calls his daughter by name only referring to her as a 'child' just shows how little he thought of her, and practically seemed to see like a mere object to be used as he wished because he owned her. Essentially it's almost as if he forgot that she was a normal human. Perhaps her illness allowed him to see things that way, but I'm just speculating at this point.
It's actions like this that reduce my general over-descriptions to very few poorly articulated words, and my vocabulary eventually just goes down to one necessary word:
Ugh.

I read about this yesterday. I thought it was old news. Well, at least I can put my opinion on this. The man is an idiot. A truly despicable human being. I mean, I'm not against spanking, it's a form of parenting that tends to get the message across pretty clearly to kids that YOU DID SOMETHING WRONG, NEVER DO IT AGAIN, but it's the type of thing you do when a kid does something extremely morally incorrect, and even then, hitting the child once, with a light spank is enough to get the message across. And it's something you stop doing when the kid turns 8 or 9. This man just kept going and going like a lunatic to his 16 year old daughter. Especially for something as stupid as what this girl did. But what really bugs me is that this guy is supposedly a Christian. I don't recall ever reading any part or hearing any part of the Bible that states that something like this is okay. If anything, it's the opposite. Some quotes from the marvelous judge.

How, in the name of god, do you say something so heartless, so, inconsiderate like this? The girl is crying, in pain, and he has the fucking balls to say he hasn't "gotten his licks" (It means he hasn't beaten her) yet.

I have absolutely nothing to say about this. These words speak for themselves.
If you want to read the whole interview go here.
I'm sorry if I sound sort of out of it in this post, but it's shit like this that really pisses me off.

Actually, the old testament says you should stone your child if he/she is too rebellious. I guess it's just lucky he didn't try that. Yep.

Thing is she wasn't being rebellious, she wasn't going against her parents talking smack. She was pretty much praying for her life.

No, but he easily could have construed her initial infraction as rebellion and gone on with it anyways. If he was entirely insane at least. As it is, he seems at worst extremely insane.

As far as I know, the video actually just came to light earlier this week.
The best comment I've seen so far went something like: "Apparently it's a bigger crime in Texas to download music/games than to beat your daughter."

Yeah, I heard about this and watched some of the Today show segment about it, and I'm fairly disgusted.
What seemed really maddening was how nonchalant the judge seemed about the situation during the interview with him; it's like he just really thinks he'll get away with it. And sadly, it seems like, the way they were talking about it on the segment, that there's a good chance he won't face charges. That's just not right.

I'm not going to watch the video, but I can confirm that the guy is a MASSIVE dick.
It's great that Hillary was brave enough to show the video.
