I'm actually doodling up a ninja tanooki girl right now.
It's kinda like, the exact opposite of that guy. Haha.

We actually kinda decided on having this boss as a guy.
It's like how in the Pokemon Black and White games, the last gym leader, depending on the game, is either a girl or an middle-aged guy.

Still. Sumos don't really transform into nimbler things. When I imagine Mario+Sumo I imagine Bullies wearing sumo gear.

Although dinomar's sumo is just as well done, I prefer the slimmer, female version. Myself, and I'm sure others, pictured this boss to be tiny and agile, like you have drawn in order to transform more "quickly". And to be frank, our boss lineup is a total sausage fest.

The sprite will probably be harder to tell. Just give her angry eyes like we're NoA working on Kirby boxart.

As for the posted images, I sort of like both, though I'm not sure how well Teyla's would translate into SMW. I like how it actually looks like a female Tanuki though, and it could theoretically work (though the potential for some creepy fanart of it is there).
I guess I'm fine with Dinomar's or Teyla's either, really.

We should have this boss the same size as Mario.
With all its transformations, we can't use 32x32, like the sumo guy.
Ans plus I've always imagine it like that.
I was thinking of something that SIMILARLY looks like Dewott.

The discussion has tended to lean towards having the boss be female; there was no "WE decided on" with this boss outside of making it a tanuki.

Two bosses are female (Worlds 2 and 4), actually. The World 9 one may be female as well, but I don't know too much about that.

Well, the majority shoud always win, but at least i'll say you why i came up with a sumo guy:
- a sumo guy is a more reasonable concept than an agile girl, imo: Tanuki, in the original folkore, is meant to be a little fat rather than a slim;
- remember SMB3? Where when Mario turns int a Tanooki, he can turn into a stone statue represeanting, in fact, a tanuki? Well, since i thought to this too, i also thought that the boss would jump and simply ground pound to hurt Mario and sometimes turn into a statue and make a stronger ground pound;
- As boss it could work like a Sumo Bro;
I read a bit of Tanuki in Wikipedia, and i think that a little overweight male/female dude would be much more suitable than a slim.
Well, i know there are some general decision, but i just propose my ideas directly, who knows: my idea could be either better or worse.
Anyway, i don't know how many transformation the boss have, but let's chosing the rightest transformation, the ones proposed by the folkore: a teacup, a monk, etc...
Look at Wikipedia for more info. I wish there was Romi here, he would know of sure how to do it since he's japanese for real.

Well, we got two decisions to go with here. Frankly, I like both ideas, and we can be hear forever deciding on which is better, but we can only have one.
So I guess vote on which one you want. The Sumo, or the Girl.

I also would like to see the Tanooki girl as boss.
Maybe the Sumo Guy can be a Mini Boss. Or the Tanooki Girl can summon that Sumo Guy. Or it can be supporting Tanooki Girl at the Battle.
Maybe it's her father?
