#w{:s}jet Quack

maybe this name might work.
I like Hindenquack better than that name.
Yes, i like it too, it makes the character more like a count.
Anyway, how it's going this boss? Kipernal, you didn't let us know progress with this.
Still working on it, though my C3 project has been consuming almost all of my free time recently. Not to say I haven't gotten anything done, though. I've got several of the boss's attack's graphics working and have been coding the new enemy that he spawns. The thing's been resisting all of my attempts to make it work without problems, though; it's gone through 3 different incarnations so far with...varying degrees of success (one of those attempts actually turned out to be pretty good, but it caused some really noticeable slowdown whenever it appeared). Once I'm satisfied with how it's working, I'll show it off.

I'd rather go with Hindenbird, which sounds better and fits the reference better.

or that name could work
Dirigibird.

Let's face it, if we went with Hindenbird, to fit the reference, one of his attacks would be blowing up.
If Dinomar is done with the Blimp Duck GFX, why not add his name in the thread. Also, Kipernal, it's been a week. Do you have any progress with the Blimp Duck?
Have some damn patience.

...you make a good point. My apologies, Dinomar.

Anyway, I don't know if I'll have enough of anything to show this week, but sometime next week I'll almost certainly have something. Like I said before, my C3 project has really been sapping my free time away.
That is fine, thanks for the update. Hopfully you will have something this week.
It's still "this week" in certain parts of the world...

The primary focus of this update is to showcase what the new enemy will be like. The thing's still riddled with bugs, though, so take what you see with a grain of salt.

Click for a patch

Known bugs:
  • It should not attempt to fire while offscreen.
  • Certain angles don't fire (it seems to be mostly ~45 degree angles that cause issues for some reason).
  • Related to the above, certain angles completely engulf the bottom screen at ~45 degree angles instead of not firing.
  • The laser's hitbox is too generous at times.
  • The crosshair doesn't work well at all. It's really just there so that you (hopefully) can get the gist of what it should be doing.
  • The aiming is a bit off, especially when firing towards the left side of the screen.
  • When firing towards the right side of the screen, the laser gets cut off if it touches the right edge.

I think we're nearing the final stretch here. After C3 is over and I can devote more time to this, it shouldn't take long at all to (finally) finish.

EDIT: For clarification, this enemy will spawn in addition to several other enemies during the boss's "enemy summon" attack.

Wow pretty nice, but... i would like to try it, but it's just a consideration. Let's waiting C3.
off topic, i won't participate C3: i have other things to think about.
Got anything new to show us Kip?

Not yet, though with exams finishing up I should (hopefully) have something to show within 1-2 weeks. It probably won't be finished by then, though it should be close, at least. Getting the final attack finished in a way that's presentable is the #1 priority at this point, followed by the graphics routine and cleaning up the new enemy. And I do apologize that it's been so long since the last update, but C3, exams, and a bunch of other things related to the year ending have really been eating away at all of my free time.
Progress update: Things have been going considerbly more slowly than I had hoped, but I do have this to show off:

Or, the alternative:

Personally I like the top better, but I'd like to hear what you guys think.

It's not quite as realistic as I'd hoped, but it's fast and looks decent enough (I think). Not sure what to do with that pesky tile on the far left, though. It doesn't have an offset, so I'll probably just have to hide it with windowing or something.

So...yeah. I'm willing to take suggestions on the animation, though in the interest of speed I really can't change a whole lot (I can't make it last longer, for example, because it would require 16-bit multiplications. Similarly, I can't change the height without halving or doubling it).
Yeah, personally I like the top on better
Top one looks a lot better to me, the second one just doesn't strike me as realistic, I guess before a blimp reaches that degree of elasticity, it'd rather rip apart.
I'll to go with the top one bandwagon.

~

On a different note, I used Hidenbird as the final name in the credits list, which seems to be a popular name, so I'm here to ask if it's good.
