I don't want to sound rude, but that is something different entirely. Commercial announcers (who are impersonal and only serve to supply factual information that cannot be inferred) and actual narrators (who are personal and part of the world of which they are speaking) are not the same animal.
A "commercial" for the game is certainly a funny thought, though.

That's what I was thinking myself; I wouldn't go with a narration for this trailer since I don't feel it will quite click unless the narration is really, REALLY good. I'm inclined to go with Axem's proposal as well, though you could use Camerin's as a "teaser" of sorts if we absolutely MUST have something posted in the near future.

Ok I've had a brief skim through the thread and would like to throw in my two cents.
I kinda like the idea of having Camerin be a narrator but I had another thought.
Camerin's Grassland theme has basically become the unofficial main theme of SMWCP2 right? Well what if we were to make a fully orchestrated arrangement of it (using edirol or something). We could play that in the background of the trailer...
Or alternativly, we provide resources and such like the orchestrated arrangement, Camerin's narration, various logo graphics, etc in a downloadable ZIP and have a contest to see who can design the best trailer with these resources.

I am growing less and less fond of the narration idea and much more fond of AxemJinx's idea coupled with the orchestration thing mVs mentioned. That would be perfect for SMWCP2.

It didn't sound rude.
Anywho, now that you've mentioned, it does make sense.

@Camerina: I agree. I like both ideas mixed together.

I don't have time to download all songs, but I guess I should put an idea on it:
If we're to make an action-packed trailer, then music upbeat and fast-paced will be appropriate.
On the other hand, if were making a a lively but not so action packed trailer, then lively music would be appropriate.
~
I think an orchestra, though, wouldn't be good for any kind of game trailer, although that is subject to change once I listened to the proposed songs.

If we do go with the orchestra idea, we had better use better sounds than what the default MIDI library comes with.
Compare (default first, modified second)
The first one sounds decent, but the second sounds amazing.
EDIT: I'm not saying we should use this track; I only posted it because I thought it provided the best example of what I'm talking about.

It's a good idea though. If we could get about 9-10 tracks of that quality (Kipernal's MP3), then we could piece them together.

I was actually trying to do all the songs from the levels AxemJinx posted, But I'm not getting the notes of all the other levels and the choirs of the music from Treetop Tussle.
Also, when I heard the MIDI's I actually thought that it wasn't sounding that nice (Finale sounds much better :l)

I personally think that we shouldn't use midis for the music.

I agree with Giant_Shyguy. If we're just putting it on youtube, why should we care if it's 16-bit?

So...to start off discussion again, what are we going with?
I say both, actually; the trailer showing the plot, and the gameplay video showing, well, the gameplays and the themes of the world.
I say show only one boss, Trunkel(?), for good measures.

I say we put together a few more demo's of what we have already discussed so the community can have a better idea of what they like.

Whoa how did I miss this? I think you missed my point entirely. With a few nice soundfonts we can spruce up the songs so they sound much better than mere midis.

It's still a midi, changing it from Microsoft's standard (crappy) soundfont doesn't stop it from being a midi. On the one hand, I hate Microsoft for giving midis such a bad name with their awful soundfont, but at least they have a default soundfont that doesn't require any configuration, I just wish they would let people know that midi sound generation has really advanced since the '90s when Microsoft's soundfont was created.

How would you suggest we make the music? We don't have the necessary capital to hire an orchestra, and I don't think we have enough people who can play enough instruments and have recording studios that we can record the music ourselves. A midi seems like the only viable solution.

Err, midi is a specific music format that is distributable and doesn't contain instrument data. Not all digitally created music are midis. You don't need an orchestra or recording studio to open fruity loops and make some non-midi music.
I believe the intended debate was whether it should be made with SMW instruments or not, but ya'll are confusing each other with wacky terminology.

In all actuality, I forgot I even posted that. =S
Anywho, midi or whatever, wouldn't right now be a "perfect" time to create a very teasing trailer?
Like, a fast one with a really swift preview of what's up right now.
And we shouldn't show any instance of the player carrying an item - I think that'll create some unnecessary drama even though the drama is over nothing =S (really, what is it with me and that emoticon nowadays?)
So yeah. Just to remind people this is still alive and that we don't suck. =S
