If people give me a list of level names/numbers they think would be worth showing off, I could throw a short 30 second thing and have it uploaded to the SMWCentral YouTube channel.

It'd be nice if someone also confirmed what logo we're using.

Suggestions:

W1: Girder Grasslands
W2: Arboreal Ascent (like, a really quick and awesome preview of the tree section, which is really awesome) it's the level before the W2 castle
W3: Shenmi Frica-Sea, one of the two levels before the castle
W4: Digsite Dangers, W4 castle, maybe the first entrance, talking to one of the toads?
W5: Sideshow Showdown, Playground Bound, or Fantastic Elastic
W6: Dangling Danger, although I can't say because I always die in screen 2.
W7: Lava Lift Lair, first fire level
W8: None
W9: None

But very quick though, like just the juicy parts. Teaser trailers are always like that =D
As for the logo I'll feature, I'll probably run with this one until I know for sure (I'll use the decided logo in the release trailer).

E: If anyone's feeling up to making a high quality larger version of this image, I'd appreciate it greatly.

That's the image I'd love to see used for the title screen as well, but we really need to get it scaled down to 16 colors (if anyone would be up for the task).

One one hand, someone will need to do something about that 2 so you can knock off 2 colors (bringing the entire thing down to 15 colors + transparency). But on the other, you can have the logo use no more two palettes, but that reduces what you can do with the title screen by only one palette (obviously). Decisions, decisions, decisions...
Why don't we use more than one palette for it? We could always use the same trick the original SMW did for their logo and use different palettes for each 8x8 tile.

Yea or nay?

Incidentally, if anyone wants to play around with it (because the screws and smoke cloud really look awful), you can get the svg here.
It should also be known that the next base ROM (tomorrow) has all of the Venus Fire Trap priorities fixed, the hitbox on the Fire/Ice Bros fixed, as well as some other visual fixes. That being said, we could be potentially ready to make a trailer for it.

Yeah I think I'll run with this one. I'll probably get round to making the trailer this weekend.

Whoa, hold on a second there. After all the discussion in this thread, you're just going to make a DIY trailer without any explanation of what exactly you're going to put in it?

Keep in mind that the trailer will form important first impressions; are you sure now's the right time? We're aiming for all levels to be done a month from now, and then there's still the overworld and betatesting to do, for starters. I don't think we want a large gap between the trailer and the release.

What levels are you going to showcase, and why? What parts of those levels will you showcase, and why? How long will the individual video clips be? How long will the overall video be?

This is what IrfanView output:

Apart from that darkest shade of green, it's actually not too shabby. Can't tell any major differences from the original.

I can spot some, but they should be easy to fix. It'd just be time-consuming. Open them up in two seperate tabs and keep going back and forth between them. Look at thedark areas of every letter; some random pixels have appeared. Most visible: bottom of S, bottom of C, right of P, MIDDLE OF M. The original, these pixels don't seem to appear. But in the edited version, they kinda mess up the look of the dark spots altogether...

(Also, I think what happened to the darkest green is that it darkened the darkest yellow and thought the darkest green and that color were the same, because right now, they look the same to me...)
You're right; looks like I forgot to turn the dithering off. Here, this one should be closer to the original.

Yeah, it actually made those two the same so the whole thing would take up fewer colors.

I can see now that a few other shades had to be adjusted as well... guess it can't be helped though, since trying to keep one color would mean having to sacrifice another.

I'll write a full plan as soon as that base rom with the pirhana plant fixes is out. I'll look into those levels which Giant Shy Guy listed as well as a few other levels that look interesting and select a few juicy bits which I think would work.

Most likely I'll have some opening cards saying something along the lines of

'SMWCentral Presents'

'The long awaited sequel to an amazing hack'

*display logo*

Following up with a few clips of the selected levels (I'll dump the footage with SNES9X or FRAPS for high quality). Then I'll end it with a card saying something along the lines with 'coming soon' or 'coming to an emulator near you'.

I'll most likely have Camerin's Grassland/Industrial theme playing throughout considering it's effectivly the main theme of the hack. The trailer will be around 20 seconds to a minute (I don't want to stretch as far as a minute though).

That's the basic idea I've been thinking about. I'll get something more specific down once I've decided on the levels. In the meantime, if anyone wants to throw in any suggestions, I'm all ears.

E: As for releasing the trailer a month before completion, I will probably make another shortly after completion. Think of this as a teaser

WYE: So what I could do is dump that in and make it the main title screen image for now (until we, of course, get an image on Layer 2 behind it). Got the palette file for it handy by chance? It'll make inserting it a lot easier on me.

I suggested to make a teaser trailer; a 30 second, or less, trailer that doesn't feature a lot, but enough to create some hype.

It's not a full-out one; just something to remind people that SMWCP is back, and better than ever, and that we don't suck at creating hacks.

You'll just be asking for complaints with that. At the very least, omit "The long awaited sequel to an amazing hack," and that's if you absolutely insist on even posting a teaser. Just a collection of screenshots posted in video form or on the main page could do a better job as a "teaser" than a 30 second video where you could potentially blow your load when it comes to making the real thing.

All I've done so far is run the picture through IrfanView to reduce the colors, so I don't yet have TPL/PAL file ready. if it's any help, here's all the colors it uses (pink representing transparency):

Might still be harder than necessary to work with, so I'll try to make a proper palette file either within the next hour or tomorrow around this time. Is there any pre-existing palette I'd have to take into consideration, or did Teyla not make one either? Also, will you need the graphics themselves too?

Wait, what do mean?
I hardly think I need to worry about blowing my load for a 30 second teaser. Individual clips will likely be no more than 5 seconds each and I'll probably only throw 10 or so level clips in there.

Besides what sort of teaser trailer shows screenshots? I'm using video editing software, not powerpoint.
Isn't it almost guaranteed that layer 2 will have a white and a black colour on one of its palettes?
If that's so, then couldn't you just replace the black and white in the logo with transparency and put the black and white onto layer 2 below it, thus saving 2 colours for the logo?

I'm not sure if anybody will get what I mean, so here's an image that will hopefully help describing what I mean:
