After all, they'll see the player collecting normal coins, which should show that you can get those. All you need to do is make the SMWC coin on screen.

Uhm, it was kinda decided to show collecting SMWCP2 coins.

Just showing them on screen doesn't tell the player "Hey, they're these things you can collect in this game similar" if I don't show them collecting it.

It's like showing a level on screen except I'm flying over all of it.
Then by all means collect one but don't collect one that leaves derped graphics after it's collected.

Yeah - that's why I'm waiting for the next base rom; which hopefully is up before the end of my spring break.
It would be nice to get the trailer ready be the time C3 comes so we can at least release something then. SNN won't be updating the base rom anytime soon, so your best bet is to work around any of the issues for now. You still have some time. ;)

C3 is...early May right? I never thought of releasing at C3 - I think that's a wonderful idea! (esepcially If get to make the thread I kid)

Well, hrm...then Girder Grassland in general shouldn't be shown then. As much as it is the first level, if the background isn't done and only one of the three SMWCP coins don't get garbled (was it the first coin? The second coin is the crisscross garbled graphics), Girder would be out of the question if the base rom won't come until mid-May...

Well okay then. I'll see about getting around this whole Girder issue - if it doesn't go as planned, maybe I'll go with Plateau Pumps instead (since it is as "lively" as Girder).
Okay, so I won't be able to do Plateau Pumps, since it's background is still the old one.

The only plausible level would be Smoggy Steppe...but it isn't as lively as the other ones.

I can't, and don't want to, do Countdown Chamber.

EDIT: Yeah Smoggy Steppe isn't gonna cut it as an opening to the trailer. I'll see about levels outside world 1...

EDIT2: There are no other "grassland" like levels outside of W2 that is completely done.

Actually, there is no happy grassland levels that are completely done.

But anywho...any suggestions?

Wait, what just happened to Velocity Valves? It's a pretty nice and lively level, and I think it'd do fine in a trailer.
Actually it is part of the teaser trailer

It's been discussed to do work around Girder Grasslands, since 1) it's background is just a placeholder and 2) SMWCP coins leave glarbed graphics.

SNN wouldn't be able to put up the latest base rom with the fixed SMWCP and possibly a bunch of levels with their new backgrounds, which may include Girder.

So yeah. I'm looking for a level to replace Girder in the trailer. It has to be a happy one, since it is an introduction and if you notice, levels get "scarier" in the trailer.

FAKEDIT:

Togepuku Tussle might work if I manage to take out the Pionpis and the pufferfish..

which totally destroy's the level's gimmick now that I think of it :/

I can't show Reverse Universe, since I don't want to show any W9 levels...
Yeah, in regards to that base ROM, I really should have had it up a couple of weeks ago, but .. you know.

At the very least, the next one WILL include the SMWCP2 coin fixes, as well as any other levels/resources I've received since the last base update. This also includes the world 7 boss, the Yoshi patch which should render Kourai Crevice playable, and a few other fixes.

Just, uh .. continue bearing with me until the early days of May.

Understandable. I just hope that it reaches C3, so at least I can still use Girder.

Currently, I'm a bit on a cutting block.
I have a quick question:

Is this background the final version, and will be the background of Girder Grasslands, and probably many others too?:

I am currently trying to "revamp" the trailer, per se.

And I still want Girder to still make an appearance.

And we are still using Teyla's SMWCP2 logo, right? Once I put it up, there is no going back in using it as the official logo.

There was some discussion of the logo appearing briefly, in the middle of a black screen, in during the title screen intro whatever, and Dinomar's feeds in, and replaces the black and the logo, subsequently.
So...I finished the Teaser Trailer, and sent it to SNN for approval and for him to upload to the SMWCentral YouTube Page (or do I ask someone else to do that?)

Anywho, I'm keeping it under wraps for now - currently, I'm currently the only who has seen the finished product (it's quite different from the last one), but I'll you shoot you a PM with the link if you want to put your feedback into it, since I will not post the link publicly (right now).

Anywho, C3 is here, so the teaser would be released. (and I kinda want to make the thread for it)

But yeah...just a little heads up.

You can just post a thread for it if you want. I probably won't upload it to the main channel right now (or at least, not unless we get a unanimous vote from most people that it should be -the- trailer). I might think it's fine, but other people may not.

But yeah, feel free to unprivatize + post that if you'd like.

So...I don't want to put up the link here, but can I have people see if they like the teaser or not? Just tell me here and I'll send the link. I don't want to release without a unanimous vote; since, it seems unfair if otherwise.

I don't see any major issue with posting the link, but go ahead and send me the link
Teaser released!
So...we have accomplished a lot in just a few months, and the hack is slowly nearing completion.

I really want to do the main trailer too; I had lots of fun just making the teaser. I have some stuff thought out already.

It'll be about 2 minutes, no less. I want to add an intro sequence, but the one I made for the teaser sucked balls. I'm really torn on what to do and how to do it. I'm not sure about music - two whole minutes of the main theme song is a bit bland, and I want to differ this from the teaser...

The levels, which I hope will be fixed, that will be shown:
1. Girder Grasslands (As I planned at first, running up the wall and getting an SMWCP coin)
2. Floral Fears
3. Blazing Brush (Going up the burning tree)
4. Togepuku Tussle (Just at the part where the Dolphins appear)
5. More Shenmi Frica-Sea (An archaeological find)
6. Beach Bawl Brawl
7. More Stone Sea Sanctuary (Handling the torpedo)
8. Jewel Jubilation (Magic carpet riding)
9. Crumbling Catacombs (I'm tempted to show the collapsing pillars, but I don't want to kill the surprise)
10. More Digsite Dangers (One of the layer 2 sections)
11. Playground Bound (Blasting away with the Friend Bullet Bills)
12. Sideshow Showdown (I want at least to show one death scene, but I don't know if I should use it with this level)
13. Tropopause Trail (Lakitu Climbing)
14. Artillery Auberge (Giant lasers of doom)
15. Stratus Skyworks
16. Lave Lift Lair
17. Frostflow Freezer (Skating)
18. More Chilly Colors (Specifically, the bonus room)
19. Rusted Retribution
20. More Incineration Station

The SMWCP1 trailer used...27(?) levels; but I'm going to try putting as few possible. The clips will be longer than the 10 second ones I used in the teaser. I already stated a few interesting areas that could be shown for some of these; I'll try to find the most engaging parts as possible to put in the trailer.

A map, with an interesting event happening. In the SMWCP trailer, it was cool that the a map was shown - but their was something out of place about it, and I think it's because of how it's a simple clip of walking from one already unlocked level to another. If we have an epic event happening, we can make it a little more appealing to watch. I don't want to choose the W3 and W5 (and obviously W9 is hands-off), since I think jaws should be drop by playing through the game with those two.

And a QUICK clip of a boss fight - either Madame Mau or Hidenbird. Leaning more on Blimp Duck though; I can show the duck doing his dive and ricocheting Mario.

In the end, the trailer music will fade out, and the title screen music and sequence will play. leod's amazing sequence will occur; I will somehow take out the press B button, and somehow insert a "coming soon" sort of jig without obscuring the image, and after it's done, I'll fade it out and finish the trailer...

...with a screamer

...with a cheesy "COMING TO AN EMULATOR NEAR YOU!"

and that's about it.

I'm wondering of what to do with the opening sequence; any ideas? I made the one in the teaser with photoshop to make a GIF, used that GIF as a background on powerpoint, and layered the SMWCP2 logo on it and just converted it to a video. It's an unconventional process, so if anyone has any ideas, or maybe even can do one, please free to say it here.

And the music - what will we use? A remix of the main theme? The songs in-game are too short to encompass interest throughout the whole video. I'm still going to have sound effects play.

Sounds interesting, although if you're going to use Lava Lift Lair, I suggest you show the cave segment, since the first half is not interesting enough to show on a trailer. Also, maybe you should include some reference of Norverg or to the story, you know, a little similar to those fancy Hollywood trailers like "this summer...things will never be the same".
I actually was planning to use the first segment - I've just played through it again and it has a lot interesting looking areas (especially at the start of the ceiling lava). Though, the cave segment's manner is definitely eye-catching; I'll see what I can make out.

About Norveg...hmm, maybe instead of an intro sequence with the title, I could use a condensed form of the opening cutscene with Doc Croc talking about the industrialization. Nothing spoilery (the appearance of Doc Croc is a non-issue I think); just some happy music playing, and Doc saying his opening lines:

"Heeeeeeey kids! It's yer old pal Doc Croc, here to tell you about some exciting news! Norveg Industries is going global, and to kick things off, we're expanding our production into new territories all across the continent--including the Mushroom Kingdom!"

And then either transitioning with a TV-esque shut down (or maybe super 8 effects? But that's too old for the setting and I don't have the tools to do it...). A black screen for a second, then the trailer music starting with (Teyla's) logo. Probably with "BAM!" effects put on it.

Oooh - this getting me pumped up! But music! I can't do anything without fitting music D:
@GSG, if you needs someone to make the gameplay videos, may I give it a try? I really want to help with something.

If not, I will understand.

Not now though, as all of the levels have a bug in it or to-be fix in it. And I hope the HUD, especially the coin counter, will be fixed sooner. We should avoid beta elements as much as possible with this trailer.

Choose any of the following:

2. Floral Fears
3. Blazing Brush (Going up the burning tree)
7. More Stone Sea Sanctuary (Handling the torpedo)
8. Jewel Jubilation (Magic carpet riding)
10. More Digsite Dangers (One of the layer 2 sections)
13. Tropopause Trail (Lakitu Climbing)
15. Stratus Skyworks
16. Lave Lift Lair
19. Rusted Retribution

- You have to change the music to "No Music", since we will need sound effects.

- Have as much footage as you can, though, what I do is pick a certain area that looks like it will be interesting.

- Standing and waiting should be avoided, like this clip from the SMWCP1 trailer, except maybe for moments like this; interesting eye-catching environment that takes away the focus from Mario.

- No jarring mistakes, like getting stuck and falling off. These are obvious slip-ups from the player, and makes the clip unappealing to watch. There are some exceptions where mistakes are accepted: Awesome Tripping or mistakes that end up looking cool, and getting hit by an enemy. I'm trying to be as varying with Mario as much as possible; in the teaser, Mario appears in various forms. If you want to pull off a good looking hurt scene, then go ahead. Don't kill Mario off though, I'll do it with a certain level myself.

- Similarly, have flow with the clips. Don't make Mario look hesitant and have the flow of movement be obstructed by an object - make as much cool looking movement as you can; <exaggeration>we have a large user-base of twelve year olds</exaggeration>, make them fawn over the ultimate amazingness of the hack. (Basically comments like "OHMYGOD I JUST CANT WAIT FOR THIS HAkC!!!!" is an encouraging sign)

- As I said, vary Mario's forms (per clip). If you have a Yoshi then use it to your advantage. NO YOSHI JUMPING. PERIOD.

- And as with PERIOD rules, no clips where the player is shown carrying an item to a certain place. I know item babysitting is not a problem in this hack, but I'd rather avoid the naysayers who exclaim stupid things.

- No extremely spoilery gameplay videos. I think you can deem what's okay and not.

- Consistency is a key; me recording with the inbuilt recordrd for ZSNES means you should to. My video format is 512x448 DR W (unless someone has a better option?). It would be unappealing to have several kinds of video quality. If bsnes wasn't as laggy in certain levels, and has a built-in recorder, then I would definitely prefer that. No outside noises. I don't want to hear button mashing or your cat suddenly storming in.

- send me the "merged" files, or videos files.

That's pretty much it. Don't record yet as I said: all levels still have bugs. For now, we need fitting trailer music that lasts for about 2 minutes and 20-30 seconds. I have no idea how I'm supposed to edit the last sequence, the title screen, to take out the "Press B" and have "Coming Soon" instead, so maybe you guys can also help there. And the intro cutscene idea Aj brought up can be done by someone else too.
Alright. Feel free to let me know when everything's ready.

I want to work on 2, 3, 7, 13 and 19.
